to be aware regarding the care of the environment;
both in developed countries, such as those that are
developing.
The phenomenon “Climate Change” is undeniable and
obvious. More and more people are informed about global
climate change in time. It affects every aspect of the things
that keeps us alive - food and energy - in addition to the forms
of economy, such as trade, industry and transport. All these
connections are understood, we recognize the action on climate
change policies on agriculture, transport, energy and trade. It is
not just an issue that will affect how we live tomorrow, but how we

Climate change is one of the most critical
El cambio climático es uno de los fenómenos
ambientales más críticos que enfrenta la humanidad
de este siglo; el aumento en la frecuencia e intensidad
de desastres ambientales, ha hecho urgente la toma de
conciencia con respecto al cuidado del medio ambiente,
tanto en los países desarrollados, como en los que están en
vías de desarrollo.
El fenómeno “Cambio Climático” es innegable y evidente. Afecta
cada aspecto de las cosas que nos mantiene vivos - alimentos
y energía -, además de las formas de economía, tales como el
comercio, la industria y el transporte. Todas estas conexiones se
entienden, reconocemos la acción sobre el cambio climático en
las políticas sobre agricultura, transporte, energía y comercio. No es
sólo un tema que afectará a cómo viviremos en el futuro, sino cómo
viviremos hoy.

de valores y actitudes pro-activas hacia la vida y su conservación con el
objetivo principal de contribuir a la construcción de una relación armónica

Honramos al planeta Tierra expandiendo un mensaje urgente para toda la humanidad: El
Cambio Climático es el desafío evolutivo al que hacemos frente todas las razas y todas
las regiones. La expresión de los procesos de vida de la Tierra se manifiesta con fuerza
exigiendo nuestra atención para que concluyamos que somos entes viventes en un todo
integrado, que las variaciones de energía, la circulación océanica, los procesos biológicos
y nuestra influencia antrópica están modificando las condiciones que hasta ahora habían
permitido coexistir. Nuestra casa la Tierra urge de nuestro conocimiento, entendimiento y
amor para que en equilibrio siga siendo el hogar de las nuevas generaciones de vida en
todas sus manifestaciones.
La 5ta Edición de ECOFILM FESTIVAL dedicada a profundizar sobre el Cambio Climático
detonó la acción en los creadores audiovisuales alrededor del mundo para formar un frente
potencialmente transformador. Miles de personas conocen hoy más sobre el tema y las
alternativas para lograr vivr en un planeta sostenible.
Gracias a las personas que en sus posiciones de gobierno, empresas privadas, organizaciones,
fundaciones, universidades, comunidades, familias siguen aportando confianza y materia
para que ECOFILM siga creciendo.

We honor planet Earth by expanding an urgent message for all humanity:
The Climate Change is the evolutional challenge we face all races and all regions. The
expression of the life processes of the Earth manifest with strength demanding our attention
so we realize we are living entities in an integrated all, that the energy variations, the oceanic
circulation, the biologic processes and our anthropic influence is modifying the conditions that
till now had allowed coexistence. Our house the Earth urges of our knowledge, understanding
and love so in balance it continues being the home of the new generations of life in all its
manifestations.
The 5th Edition of ECOFILM FESTIVAL dedicated to deepen about Climate Change detonated
the action of the audiovisual creators around the world to form a potentially transformative
front. Thousands of people today know more about the topic and the alternatives to attain
living in a sustainable world.
Thanks to the people that in their governmental positions, private companies, organizations,
foundations, universities, communities, families uncease providing trust and matter so
ECOFILM continues growing.

“En el concierto de las naciones, el cambio climático genera un sonido alto y claro.
Expertos de todo el mundo han coincidido en que la participación del hombre en el
problema es fundamental y que el 95% de las actividades humanas son causa del
cambio climático en los últimos dos siglos. Millones de personas han padecido ya los
estragos de fenómenos naturales devastadores. Migraciones forzadas, inundaciones,
sequías prolongadas, enfermedades, entre muchos otros efectos, se verán
potencializados en el futuro si no se toman las acciones para evitarlos. El gobierno de
México, líder mundial en atención al cambio climático, fomenta políticas y programas
tanto en mitigación como en adaptación. Así lo ha demostrado en su participación en
la pasada Cumbre del Clima (COP 21). En esta materia, la educación y la divulgación
de información entre la mayoría de la población es importante y necesaria. Desde
su invención, el cine ha sido un medio de comunicación entre comunidades y entre
personas. Mediante el cine se reciben noticias, historia y elementos de recreación.
El papel del cine, en la educación y la divulgación de información, es innegable. Es
por ello que el festival Ecofilm adquiere relevancia en los esfuerzos de adaptación al
cambio climático. Estoy seguro que la aportación de los documentales y cortometrajes
acerca del cambio climático coadyuvará a generar una consciencia colectiva mejor
informada para una participación social más acertada. Reitero mi reconocimiento y
agradecimiento a las personas que hacen posible el festival por su aportación en una

“In the concert of nations, climate change generates a high and clear note. Experts from
all the world have coincided that man’s involvement in the problem is critical and that
95% of human activities have caused climate change in the last two centuries. Millions
of people have suffered already from the havoc of devastating natural phenomenon.
Forced migrations, flooding, prolonged droughts, illnesses, among many other effects,
will be potentiated in the future if actions are not taken to avoid them. The government
of México, worldwide leader in attention to climate change, promotes policies and
programs in mitigation as in adaptation. It has been demonstrated in its participation at
the recent Climate Summit (COP21). In this subject, the education and the information
diffusion amongst all the population is important and necessary. From its invention, the
cinema has been a communication media among communities and people. Through
the films; news, history and entertainment elements are received. The role of the
cinema industry, in the education and dissemination of information, is undeniable. It is
therefore why Ecofilm Festival acquires relevance in the efforts of adaptation to climate
change. I am certain that the documentaries and short film contributions about climate

Estos últimos años ha estado creciendo y haciéndose pública la preocupación de
grandes organizaciones, así como de gobiernos, por el fenómeno de cambio climático.
Esto debido a que se está volviendo una realidad tangible, las consecuencias son
graves y pueden ser devastadoras si no se genera conciencia para tomar acciones para
construir un futuro más prometedor.
Por ello consideramos muy acertado que ECOFILM dedicara su convocatoria al “Cambio
Climático” este año. Es de vital importancia abordar el tema desde diferentes frentes y
de manera conjunta, dada la complejidad del problema.
ECOFILM a través de su plataforma nos invitó a reflexionar sobre la importancia de

In the last years the concern has been growing and it has been made public by great
organizations as well as governments, towards the climate change phenomenon. Due
to the fact it is turning into a tangible reality, the consequences are serious and can
be devastating if consciousness is not generated into taking actions to build a more
promising future.
Therefore, we have considered very righteous that ECOFILM dedicated its call to “Climate
Change” this year. It is of vital importance to talk about the topic from different fronts and
in conjunction, due to the complexity of the problem.
ECOFILM through its platform invited us to reflect about the importance of making a

El ECOFILM Festival ha cumplido su primer lustro, invitándonos a conocer y contribuir en

The matter of climate change requires cooperation, inspiration and communication among all citizens,
businessmen, civil organizations and our country leaders, and what a better way to contribute and assume
consciousness given the climate urgency, than to participate in the fifth edition of the ECOFILM Festival,
Hombre Naturaleza Foundation A.C. initiative presided by Emmanuel Acha and his wife Mercedes.

Navarro. Realizó estudios de Filosofía y Letras Inglesas en la ciudad de Nueva York. En 1972, obtuvo su primer
Ariel por coactuación en El castillo de la pureza de Arturo Ripstein y el segundo en 1980, como Mejor Actriz, en
El infierno de todos tan temido. Asímismo, tuvo tres nominaciones a la estatuilla por Actas de Marusia (1976),
Entre Pancho Villa y una mujer desnuda (1996) y Las caras de la luna (2002). Su filmografía abarca un total de 41
películas con los directores más importantes de su generación y coproducciones con Alemania, España, Francia,
Inglaterra y Estados Unidos. Ha sido premiada con el Mayahuel de Plata del Festival de Cine de Guadalajara, la

Born in a family of artists. Her father was the great film director Julio Bracho and her mother the ballerina
Diana Bordes Mangel. Around them were the divas Dolores del Río and Andrea Palma, as well as Ramón
Navarro. She studied Philosophy and English Literature in the Big Apple, New York. In 1972, she obtained her
first Ariel for co-starring in the film El castillo de la pureza by Arturo Ripstein and the second one in 1980, as
Best Actress in the film El infierno de todos tan temido. She was also three times nominated to be recipient
of the award for Actas de Marusia (1976), Entre Pancho Villa y una mujer desnuda (1996) y Las caras de la
luna (2002). Her filmography includes a total of 41 movies with the most important directors of her generation
and co-productions with countries such as Germany, Spain, France, England and the United States.
She has been awarded with El Mayahuel de Plata by the Guadalajara Film Festival, La Medalla by the Film Archives UNAM, La
Cruz de Plata by the Guanajuato International Film Festival, La Musa de Mujeres in Film and Television for her cinematographic

She studied Communication Sciences at the University of Communication. In 2002 she moved to London to venture in Media Management and Cultural Studies; this generated great interest in expanding her knowledge and
understanding about the different cultures and societies around the world. In 2005 she volunteered at the ZIFF,
the Zanzíbar International Film Festival, Tanzania, and furthermore she became the ambassador for this festival
in Latin América. In 2007 and throughout three years, Maricarmen was in charge of the production for the first

and Climate Change INECC; Previously, she headed the area of Statistics, Econometrics and models at the

Donald Ranvaud is a British film producer and film journalist. He has had producing roles on a number of Oscarnominated films including The Constant Gardener (2005), City of God (2002), Central Station (1998) and
Farewell My Concubine (1993). He is now best known for his work in the Latin American film industry, especially
in Brazil and Bolivia. He is the Creative Producer for the Film4Climate initiative of Connect4Climate, a World Bank
Group climate change communication program.
He began his career in the world of film and entertainment in 1989 after completing studies on production and
filmmaking for TV & Film at IDEP Barcelona, Spain. In 1998 while working on a film production he is offered to
produce the 5th edition of the Environmental International Film Festival (FICMA) and in 2002 the leadership of
the Mostra Lambda of Barcelona.
For several years he worked as a scriptwriter for television series and some film productions. In 2006 he
colaborated on founding the FICTGAY, in México City, a Film & Theater Festival which mission is the cultural

television. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, she collaborated with film festivals and online publications
related to the entertainment industry. She is originally from Porto, Portugal.
Lucia Grenna created and leads the climate change communication unit in the World Bank Group’s Global
Engagement division, where she has been since 1999. She created Connect4Climate in 2011, realizing the

Bárbara Martínez Ruiz ha trabajado en el campo educativo por de 18 años. Es una psicóloga educativa con
Maestría en Sociología por la Universidad de Columbia Británica, Canadá (UBC); Habla Español, Inglés y Francés.
Bárbara ha realizado investigaciones sobre la educación, estilos de aprendizaje, gestión del conocimiento y el
arte en diferentes universidades como Reading (Reino Unido), UBC (Canadá) y la UNAM (México). Ha presentado
artículos en congresos internacionales sobre la enseñanza de las matemáticas a través del arte. Antes de unirse
a VFS, trabajó en el UNICEF, en el Tecnológico de Monterrey, la Universidad de Las Américas y la UBC.
Debido a su experiencia educativa y su capacidad de conectar con los estudiantes y profesores, Bárbara aporta
los elementos adecuados a su función de asesoría en VFS, al ayudar a los estudiantes a decidir su carrera.
Proveniente del Reino Unido, Louise Lee la lanzó carrera en Deloitte Consulting antes de moverse a la gestión
de proyectos en lastminute.com y Esporta Health & Fitness. Después de servir como Gerente de Programa
y Jefe de Obras Street para Thames Water Utilities, se unió a Blast Radius y entregó proyectos magnos para
Microsoft y Nintendo. Louise ha sido una parte integral del Diseño Digital en VFS por cinco años, y ofrece a los

Bárbara Martínez Ruiz has been working in the educational field for more than18 years. She is an educational
psychologist with a Masters in Sociology at the University of British Columbia, Canada (UBC); She speaks fluently
Spanish, English and French. Barbara has done research on education, learning styles, knowledge management
and art at different universities such as Reading (UK), UBC (Canada) and UNAM (México). She has presented
articles at International congresses on the teaching of Mathematics through Art. Before joining VFS, she has
worked at UNICEF, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Las Americas University & UBC.
Due to her educational expertise and her ability to connect with students and faculty, Barbara brings the right
elements to her advisory role at VFS, when helping students decide their career path.
Hailing from the UK, Louise Lee launched her career at Deloitte Consulting before moving into project management
at lastminute.com and Esporta Health & Fitness. After serving as Program Manager & Head of Street Works
for Thames Water Utilities, she joined Blast Radius and delivered major projects for Microsoft and Nintendo.

Haber ganado ECOFILM con un video casero que hice con mis
roomies, Jimena Chowell y Hector Garza, durante las vacaciones,
inevitablemente me hace pensar en el tema de nuestro documental, lo
extraordinario viene de lo ordinario.
Hablar de cambio al mundo, igual que hablar de seguir un sueño,
muchas veces suena imposible porque lleva implícito el influir en una
masa. Se nos olvida que las masas están conformadas por individuos y
no son los aspectos generales los que nos conectan, sino que los más
personales. Creo que por eso a los jueces les gustó nuestro trabajo.
Para nosotros fue un honor formar parte de ECOFILM este año y como
estudiantes, agradecemos muchísimo este tipo de festivales que son
una plataforma para dar a conocer nuestro trabajo.
Winning ECOFILM with a home video I made with my roomies, Jimena
Chowell and Hector Garza, during a vacation, inevitably makes me
think in the topic of our documentary, the extraordinary comes from the
ordinary.
To talk about change to the world, as talking about following a dream,
many of times sounds impossible, because it implies influencing a mass.
We forget that masses are made by individuals and that not the general
aspects are the ones which connect us, but the most personal ones. I
believe that is why the judges liked our work.
For us it was an honor to be part of ECOFILM this year and as students,
we are deeply grateful for this kind of festivals that are a platform to
make our work be known.
La experiencia que vivimos gracias a Ecofilm fue de lo más placentera.
Desde que supimos de lo que trataría la edición de este año nos
entusiasmamos, pues nos pareció un tema de enorme importancia hoy
en día. Todo el proceso por el que pasamos para llegar al resultado final
de nuestro cortometraje fue inspirador y a todos nos unía el mismo lazo:
contar una historia que despertara interés pero que a la vez pudiera
abordar la situación del cambio climático de forma puntual.
Una vez que se nos informó que nuestro ‘Lotería’ fue finalista sentimos
mucha emoción; más que alegrarnos por cualquier premio que éste
pudiera recibir, fue un orgullo saber que más gente podría acercarse
a verlo.
Nuestra estancia en la premiación fue de igual modo muy gratificante
desde el momento en que llegamos al museo. La forma en que el
evento estuvo organizado, la calidad de los demás proyectos que se
presentaron y el trato de los integrantes de ECOFILM fueron admirables
y nos brindaron un excelente rato.
La experiencia como ganadores es de igual modo muy gratificante no
sólo por el prestigio que esto nos brinda y el gran premio que se no
dio, sino porque nos inspira a seguir adelante en nuestras carreras y
creyendo en la calidad de los festivales en México.
Agradecemos de manera enorme a ECOFILM por esta maravillosa
oportunidad de formar parte de ellos y estaremos fascinados de continuar
asistiendo a sus proyecciones y participando en futuras ediciones.
The experience we had thanks to Ecofilm was very pleasant. Since we
knew what topic would the edition be about this year we were very
encouraged, because it seemed a topic of great importance for our days.
The entire process we went through to reach the final result of our short
film was inspiring and we all were united by the same bond: to tell a story
that awakened interests and could equally talk about the climate change
situation spot-on.Once we were informed that our ‘Lotería’ was a finalist
we felt great excitement; more than rejoicing for any prize it could receive,
we felt proud to know more people could come close to see it. Our stay
during the award ceremony was equally gratifying from the moment we
arrived to the museum. How the event was organized, the quality of the
other projects presented and the demeanor of the ECOFILM members
was admirable as they delivered a great moment. The experience as
winners was also very rewarding not only for the prestige that it grants us
and the great prize we were given, but also for the boost of inspiration to
keep moving forward in our careers believing in the quality of the festivals
in Mexico.We greatly thank ECOFILM for this wondeful opportunity to form
part of them and we will be fascinated to continue attending its screenings
and participating in future editions.

Participar en ECOFILM ha sido una de las experiencias que más
nos ha entusiasmado y nos ha motivado para seguir produciendo
cortometrajes de animación con temas ambientales. Y el tema de este
año fue muy importante a nivel mundial ya que el problema del cambio
climático está creciendo exponencialmente y tener la oportunidad
de realizar un cortometraje que pueda explicar y concientizar sobre
nuestras acciones fue muy importante para nuestro equipo.
Y como ganador de un premio de ECOFILM nos emociona mucho
que pueda verse alrededor del mundo por muchas personas y tal vez
hacer reflexionar a alguien sobre nuestro futuro.
To participate in ECOFILM has been one of the experiences that
has encouraged and motivated us the most to continue producing
animation short films with environmental topics.
The topic of this year was very important at a worldwide level, more
so as the problem of climate change is growing exponentially and
to have the opportunity to make a short film that could explain and
create consciousness about our actions was very important for our
team.
And as a winner of an ECOFILM prize it excites us a lot that it may
be seen around the world by many people and perhaps make
someone reflect about our future.

He visto muchos festivales desde mis primeras creaciones y los que son como
ECOFILM no sólo son únicos, son inevitables ...
Fundamentalmente, un festival basado en la ecología debe comunicar una
imagen positiva del desarrollo sostenible. Para llevar un mensaje de este tipo,
¿Qué lo hace mejor que el séptimo arte?
Pero el festival ECOFILM va incluso más allá de “cortometrajes ambientales
simples” autosuficientes y carentes de estilo ... No sólo reúne todos los actores
y personalidades que participan activamente en el desarrollo sostenible, sino
a través de su selección específica de películas, demuestran un sincero y
minucioso trabajo por el equipo organizador , dando como resultado en pantalla
grande; las perlas cinematográficas sobre el tema. Las piezas que, más allá de
las emociones, desencadenan un verdadero proceso de pensamiento en sus
espectadores, así como una conciencia vinculada al cuidado de nuestro medio
ambiente.
En mi opinión, una película de éxito es una película que inspira las acciones
positivas y firmes hacia la preservación del mundo del mañana. Eso es
exactamente lo que el festival ECOFILM nos ofrece!

I’ve seen many festivals since my first creations and those like ECOFILM are
not only rare but unavoidable...
Fundamentally, an ecology-based festival must communicate a positive
image of sustainable development. To carry such a message, what does it
better than the 7th art ?
But the ECOFILM festival goes even further than “simple environmental
short films” self-righteous and lacking flair... Not only do they gather all the
actors and personalities actively involved in sustainable development, but
through their very specific selection we notice a sincere and thorough work
by the festival’s crew to screen nothing but the cinematographic pearls on
the subject. The pieces that, beyond emotions, will trigger a true thinking
process in its viewers as well as an awareness of the elementary stakes
bond to our environment.
In my opinion, a success film is a film that inspires positive and solid actions
towards the preservation of the world of tomorrow. That is exactly what
EcoFilm festival offers us !

Aún estamos a tiempo.
Hace poco leí la cita que un filósofo italiano escribió desde su celda: “Soy
pesimista por la inteligencia pero optimista por la voluntad.” Es fácil recordar
estas palabras cuando leemos en los medios de comunicación de las catástrofes
ambientales que ocurren alrededor del mundo a escalas cada vez mayores y de una
frecuencia en ascenso, es lógico discernir un futuro bastante sombrío para nuestro
planeta. Esa es nuestra realidad y nos pisa los talones a un ritmo abrumador. Como a
nuestro filósofo Italiano, la inteligencia nos pinta un panorama sin mucho cupo para el
optimismo. Y es justo este el contexto en el que brilla la tan necesitada voluntad de
los participantes y organizadores del ECOFILM FESTIVAL de alzar la voz y sembrar
iniciativa en nuestra sociedad, de poner un poco de optimismo sobre la mesa y con
suerte transformarlo en acciones. Yo creo que la parte más importante que ahora
nos toca hacer como realizadores es la de sensibilizar a un público saturado de
información, sembrar un poco de optimismo en la voluntad de la gente e invitarlos a
luchar por una causa que aún no está perdida. Durante las proyecciones a las que
tuve oportunidad de asistir me topé con proyectos de todos los géneros y temas
pero creo que la gran mayoría estaría de acuerdo en que la causa está cobrando
más fuerza que nunca y va a ser gracias a los esfuerzos individuales que encuentren
continuidad colectiva que vamos a crear solución al problema ambiental que
enfrentamos. El festival ECOFILM cumple la indispensable función de recolectar y
seleccionar estas voces individuales y transformarlas en un grito colectivo en favor
del medio ambiente. Entre esas voces está el mensaje que mi equipo y yo a través
de el cortometraje animado “Paradise” sentimos necesario expresar a manera de
antídoto al muy necesario pero inerte pesimismo que nos rodea: Aún estamos a
tiempo.

Participar en la quinta edición de ECOFILM ha sido algo increíble, tanto
por la oportunidad de mostrar mi trabajo como por el tema que se a
tratado. El hecho de tomar un tema que en estos tiempos se ha vuelto
algo tan importante a nivel mundial ha sido un gran reto, ya que en mi
punto de vista era crear algo sencillo pero que sea lo suficientemente
fuerte para crear conciencia de a lo que estamos llegando como
sociedad. El buscar información sobre el tema al principio del proyecto
era algo muy difícil ya que ver el daño que le estamos causando a
la tierra me impresionó demasiado. De igual manera espero que la
gente que vea todos los trabajos que se hicieron para el festival cause
conciencia de lo que esta pasando, ya que todos fueron muy claros
con respecto al tema. Me sorprendió mucho la labor de ECOFILM en
su labor por tocar temas que nos conciernen a todos como sociedad,
llevando acabo actividades en donde nos muestran lo que tenemos
que hacer. Me pone muy contento el hecho de que ahora he llegado
a ser parte de esa ayuda gracias a el festival y espero que mi trabajo
así como el de todos los proyectos realizados nos ayuden a hacer
conciencia de lo que esta pasando.

We are still on time.
Very recently I read a quote from an Italian philosopher who wrote it from his cell:
“I am a pessimist through intelligence but an optimist through the will.” It is easy
to remember these words when in the communication media we read about the
environment catastrophes that happen all around the world every time in larger scale
and with an incremental frequency, it is easy to discern a quite darken future for our
planet. That is our reality and its stepping on our heels at an overwhelming rhythm.
Just as like our Italian philosopher, intelligence paints a view without much space for
optimism. And it is this precisely the context in which shines the so needed will from
the participants and organizers of ECOFILM Festival to raise the voice and plant
initiative in our society, to put a bit of optimism on the table and with luck transform it
into actions. I believe that the most important part we must do as makers is to sensitize
an audience saturated with information, to plant a little optimism in the will of the
people and invite them to fight for a cause that is not just lost. During the screenings
I had the opportunity to attend to, I came across with projects from all genres and
topics but I think the vast majority would agree that the cause is becoming stronger
than ever and it will be thanks to the individual efforts that find collective continuity
that we will create a solution to the environmental problem we face. The ECOFILM
Festival fulfills the indispensable function to gather and select these individual voices
and transforms them into a collective scream in favor of the environment. Among
those voices is the message of my team and mine and through the animated short
film “Paradise” we felt the need to express in an antidote manner the very necessary
but lifeless pessimism that surrounds us: We are still on time.
To participate in the fifth edition of ECOFILM has been incredible, as much
for the opportunity to show my work as for the topic that has been spoken
about. The fact of taking a topic which in these times has turned into
something so globally important has been a great challenge, from my point
of view it was about creating something simple but sufficiently powerful to
generate consciousness as of what we are coming down to as a society.
Searching for information at the beginning of the project was very hard, to
see the way we are damaging the planet deeply struck me. In that same
measure I hope that all the people who see the pieces of work made for
the festival are awakened about what is happening, as they were all very
clear in reference to the topic. I was very surprised by the work of ECOFILM
for touching topics that matter to us all as a society, and doing activities
where we are shown what has to be done. I am very happy to know that
I have become part of that help thanks to the festival and I wish that my
work as well as all of the other projects that were made help us create
consciousness about what is happening.

Desde el momento en que, como equipo, leímos la convocatoria pensamos
que se podía hacer un cortometraje interesante, pero no imaginábamos la
repercusión que tendría sobre nosotros. Esto en cuanto dos cosas importantes que
aprendimos: primero, el trabajo en equipo; segundo, la incidencia que tiene el ser
humano sobre su ambiente. Comenzaré hablando de la segunda. Cuando hicimos
las primeras reuniones para trabajar, nos dimos cuenta cuán poco sabíamos sobre
las repercusiones y las causas del cambio climático. Entonces, el primer trabajo que
realizamos fue investigar, y con esto, estoy segura, a cada integrante del equipo
nos quedó una conciencia de lo que hace el ser humano que afecta a su ambiente,
y pequeñas acciones que sabemos pueden contribuir a no destruir el planeta. Ya
teniendo la información asimilada, pensamos en cómo expresarla: nuestra intención
era poder plasmar en su mayoría, las consecuencias del cambio climático, pero
deseábamos hacerlo de tal manera que el espectador tuviera que preguntarse ¿qué
está pasando?, y de esta manera se propicie una reflexión sobre ¿qué estoy haciendo
yo? Ahora, el segundo punto que mencioné, el trabajo en equipo. Convivimos durante
muchas semanas, trabajando día y noche sin parar, y para todos apareció algo
importante: después de esta experiencia nos consolidamos como equipo, ahora nos
conocemos mucho más, tenemos confianza en el otro y aprendimos a convivir. Haber
ganado el tercer lugar del ECOFILM reafirma estos aprendizajes. Considero que si
se pueden generar más ambientes, a pequeña escala, que propicien y fomenten el
trabajo en conjunto, que a su interior generen armonía y al exterior hagan propuestas
sobre cómo mejorar nuestra realidad, entonces se crece como sociedad. Gracias
al ECOFILM por habernos permitido esta experiencia, y el equipo de La Endina
Remolona desea sinceramente que este concurso siga creciendo y se difundan los
cortometrajes que se produjeron, para poder generar un cambio.
From the moment the team read the call, we thought that an interesting short film
could be made, but we did not imagine the repercussion it would have on us. Mainly
about two very important things we learnt; the first one, team work; the second one,
the impact that humans have over their environment. I will begin by talking about the
second one. When we had our first reunions to work, we realized how little we knew
about the repercussions and causes of climate change. Then, the first task we did
was to do research, and with this, I am sure, that to every member of the team there
was a consciousness that stayed within about what the human being does to affect
its environment, and small actions that we know can contribute to not destroy the
planet.Once assimilating all the information, we thought about how to express it: our
intention was to mostly portray the consequences of climate change, but we wished
to do it in such way that the audience had to ask itself, what is happening?, therefore
conducing to reflect upon, what is being done by me?. Following, the second aspect
I mentioned, team work. We mingled for many weeks, working day and night nonstop, and for all of us something important appeared; after this experience we have
consolidated as a team, we know each other much better, we have trust in each other
and we learnt how to coexist. To have won third place in ECOFILM reinforces this
learning. I consider that if more environments are generated, in a small scale which
support and promote team work, that at its core generates harmony and outside of it
makes proposals about how to improve our reality, then we grow as a society. Thank
you ECOFILM for enabling this experience, and the team of La Endina Remolona
sincerely wishes that this contest continues growing and the short films produced are
published so a change can be generated.

Para Black Maria, ser ganador de mejor corto documental en ECOFILM fue
una de las más gratas sorpresas para cerrar éste año. Nuestra compañía es
joven y cualquier reconocimiento que tenga nuestro trabajo significa para
nosotros un pilar más para continuar haciendo cine. Ese día en la ceremonia
de premiación Santiago Torres y yo salimos felices de conseguir el mayor
premio y después fue muy grato recibir felicitaciones de personalidades
y personas que se nos acercaban para decirnos lo mucho que les había
gustado nuestro trabajo. “Semillas” es un cortometraje que habla sobre
todos los agricultores que aún están en la lucha contra las grandes
transnacionales por preservar su gastronomía, cultura y herencia espiritual.
De la experiencia de realizar “Semillas” decidimos continuar y con éste
premio impulsaremos la realización de nuestro largometraje “UYWAY (la
semilla, en lengua quechua) que habla en general sobre la pérdida de
el sentido espiritual en la agricultura, y las voces de las agricultores que
continúan en preservación de su cultura y espíritu. Que mejor forma de
agradecer a ECOFILM el apoyo para difundir nuestro trabajo, que, haciendo
más cine! For Black Maria, to be the winner for best short documentary in ECOFILM was
one of the best surprises to close this year. Our company is young and any
recognition that our work gets is a milestone to continue making films. The
day of the awards ceremony Santiago Torres and I left feeling happy from
obtaining the biggest prize and after, it was great to receive congratulations
from personalities and people who would approach us to let us know how much
they had liked our work.
“Semillas” is a short film that talks about all the farmers who are still fighting
against the great transnationals to preserve their gastronomy, culture and
spiritual heritage. From the experience of making “Semillas” we decided to
continue and with this prize we will propel the making of our long film “UYWAY”
(the seed, in quechua language) that in general talks about the loss of the
spiritual sense in agriculture, and the voices of those farmers who continue
preserving their culture and spirit. What a better way to thank ECOFILM for the
support to transmit our work, but, creating more films!

Supimos que el cortometraje “Bosques: aliados contra el cambio climático”
había sido finalista y brincamos de la emoción. Asistimos al evento
de premiación y cuando escuchamos que habíamos ganado segundo
lugar no lo podríamos creer, ¡fue muy motivante! Algo que también fue
sumamente satisfactorio, y que dio sentido a las desveladas, largas
jornadas de trabajo y todo el esfuerzo, fue que nuestro trabajo se haya
mostrado en salas de cine y que generó alguna emoción al espectador
transmitiéndole un mensaje.
A nombre de todo el equipo de producción y como director del
documental, quiero agradecer a todas y cada una de las personas que
de manera directa o indirecta participaron en este esfuerzo.
Con los recursos del premio haremos otro cortometraje sobre el
cuidado del medio ambiente, con la participación de los colaboradores
que trabajamos en el cortometraje “Bosques: aliados contra el cambio
climático”.
We learnt the short film “Bosques: aliados contra el cambio climático” had
been a finalist and we jumped in joy. We attended the awards event and
when heard we had won second place we could not believe it; it was very
motivating! Something else was highly satisfying, and it gave meaning
to the sleepless nights, the long work journeys and all the efforts, was
that our work was exhibited in the movie theaters and generated some
emotion in the audience transmitting them a message.
In the name of all the production crew and as the director of the
documentary, I wish to thank all and each one of the people who directly
or indirectly participated in this effort.
With the resources from the prize we will make another short film about
the care of the environment, with the participation from the collaborators
who worked in the shorfilm “Bosques: aliados contra el cambio climático”

Esta edición del Festival ECOFILM, fue particularmente bueno para nosotros
ya que tuvimos la oportunidad de ganar premios en dos categorías: ficción
y documental. En el caso de documental obtuvimos el tercer lugar con el
Efecto Invernadero y en ficción conseguimos el primero con Antropogénico.
ECOFILM para nosotros ha sido un espacio de crecimiento y experimentación
ya que hemos participado en las 5 ediciones que se han llevado a cabo.
Nos hemos dado cuenta que el festival ha tenido un crecimiento muy
importante en cuanto al alcance y a la calidad de las producciones que
forman parte de él. Personalmente me parece un espacio que los jóvenes
deben aprovechar para poder crear contenidos que cuestionen a la
sociedad y generen conciencia ecológica. También es un medio excelente
para poder desarrollar las habilidades cinematográficas, ya que a través de
la competencia se impulsa a los jóvenes a encontrar maneras de producir
contenidos de muy alta calidad con muy pocos recursos.
This ECOFILM Festival edition, was particularly good for us as we had
the opportunity to win prizes in two categories: fiction and documentary.
Regarding the documentary we obtained third place with Efecto Invernadero
and in fiction we got first place with Antropogénico. ECOFILM has been for
us a space for growth and experimentation as we have participated in the
5 editions that have been done.
We have noticed that the festival has had a very noticeable growth in terms
of the reach and the quality of the productions that form part of it. Personally,
it seems to me as a space that the young ones need to seize to create
contents that question society and generate ecologic consciousness. It
is also an excellent media to develop the cinematographic abilities, as
through competition youth is driven to find ways to produce contents of
very high quality with very little resources.

Se ganador del ECOFILM es algo que te agarra por sorpresa.
Es inesperado, porque en algún momento dejas olvidada la posibilidad
de ganar en la almohada de tu cama, y de pronto, ¡bum! La sorpresa
llega y no cabes de la emoción.
Supe que este año habían participado más de ochocientos cortometrajes,
con ese número tan grande la esperanza de que ganáramos se reducía,
y de pronto, te enteras de que somos ganadores, enseguida se vienen
los recuerdos de todo el equipo esforzándose por lograr terminar el
corto a tiempo para llegar a la fecha de inscripción del ECOFILM.
Las anécdotas en la realización de Isaías 1:25 son muchas y muy
divertidas, también se vienen a la mente todas las personas que
creyeron en este proyecto, que apoyaron para que se realizara, con
todos estamos muy agradecidos.
Espero que este cortometraje contribuya a crear conciencia sobre el
cambio climático y sobre todo a contagiar a otros creadores a hacer
cine con una convicción ética de amor, respeto y cuidado a nuestro
To be a winner of ECOFILM is something that grasps you by surprise.
It is unexpected, because at some point you leave the possibilities of
winning on the pillow of your bed, and suddenly, bum! The surprise
arrives and you are overwhelmed with emotion.
I knew that more than eight hundred short films had participated this
year, with such a big number the hope of winning grew smaller, and
suddenly, you are told you are a winner, immediately, all the memories
of the team giving their best to finish the short film on time for the
ECOFILM deadline came to mind.
The anecdotes in the making of Isaías 1:25 are many and much fun, to
the mind also come all the people who believed in this project, who
were supportive to make it happen, with all we are very grateful.
I hope this short film contributes to create consciousness about climate
change and above all that it infects other creators to make films with
a conviction ethic of love, respect and care for our planet and to all
beings who live in it.

Estar en el Museo Soumaya para la premiación del ECOFILM 2015
fue una gran experiencia. La emoción de estar en una ceremonia de
esa magnitud como parte de los finalistas fue una meta cumplida que
habíamos pensado desde la concepción de nuestro cortometraje
PLANTAE.
Llevarnos el 3er lugar en cortometraje de ficción es un honor muy grato
que compartimos los participantes del cortometraje. La ceremonia
estaba muy bien organizada y los trofeos fueron un gran detalle para
los ganadores. Ser participe de este evento ha sido una de las mejores
experiencias que yo he tenido como cineasta independiente, espero
ser parte de otras futuras ediciones y premiaciones de este gran festival.

To enter the Soumaya Museum for the award ceremony of ECOFILM
2015 was a great experience. The excitement of being in a ceremony
of such magnitude as part of the finalists was an accomplished goal we
had thought of since the conception of our short film PLANTAE.
Taking the 3rd place in the fiction short film category is a very pleasant
honor that all who participated in it share. The ceremony was very well
organized and the trophies were a great gesture for the winners.
To be part of this event has been one of the best experiences I have
had as an independent filmmaker, I wish to be part of future editions
and award ceremonies of this great festival.

Sin duda fue una gran experiencia. Sabíamos que el tema de Cambio
Climático abarca muchos aspectos que podrían ser abordados desde
cualquier punto, por esa razón, decidimos plantaer el mensaje de la
manera más simple y directa posible, con la intención de crear conciencia
y sensibilizarnos un poco más en este tema.
Agradecemos al jurado por este reconocimiento y sobre todo al equipo
de producción que compartió su talento para lograr esta pieza.
Gracias a ECOFILM por realizar esta importante labor que tanto
necesitamos para preservar nuestros recursos naturales, esto apenas
empieza, sigamos adelante con buenas ideas que ayuden a mejorar
nuestro entorno.
Without doubt it was a great experience. We knew that the Climate
Change topic comprises many aspects that could be tackled from any
angle, reason why, we decided to present the message in the simplest
and most direct possible way, with the intention of creating consciousness
and become more sensitized to this topic.
We thank the jury for this recognition and above all to the production
team who shared their talent to make this piece possible.
Thanks to ECOFILM for doing such an important work, which is so much
needed to preserve our natural resources, this is just beginning, let’s
move forward with good ideas that help improve our environment.
SI LOS ÁRBOLES PUDIERAN…

Dirigí la obra “Si los árboles pudieran...”, que obtuvo el segundo
lugar en la categoría de campaña audiovisual. ECOFILM Festival me
pareció una excelente plataforma para desarrollar ciertas ideas que
tenía en relación a la importancia, poco apreciada, de los árboles
en nuestro planeta. Al mismo tiempo, me encontraba reflexionando
sobre el incremento en el uso de las nuevas teconologías, que nublan
nuestras formas más puras de comunicación. Así nació “Si los áborles
pudieran...”. Sin ECOFILM Festival esta pieza no hubiera cobrado vida,
ya que este festival proporcionó un espacio para que mi creatividad
y la de mi equipo se desarrollaran con la confianza de que (quizá)
existiría un público que pusiera atención a lo que queríamos decir.
Cuando nos enteramos de que habíamos ganado el segundo lugar, por
supuesto surgió por un momento la pregunta de quién había ganado
el primer lugar. Echamos un vistazo a la obra ganadora del primer lugar
y entendimos por qué se había tomado tal decisión. Las obras que nos
acompañan en el grupo de ganadores parecen todas merecer lo que
se les ha ortorgado. Lamentablemente no pude estar en la premiación.
Sin embargo, parte de nuestro equipo estuvo presente y disfrutó de
la ceremonia que el festival ofreció para anunciar sus ganadores.
Quedamos muy contentos con los resultados. I directed the piece “Si los árboles pudieran...”, which obtained second
place in the category of audiovisual campaign. ECOFILM Festival
seemed to me an excellent platform to develop certain ideas I had
in relationship with the importance, little appreciated, of the trees
in our planet. At the same time, I found myself reflecting upon the
increased usage of the new technologies, which cloud our purest
forms of communication. This is how “Si los árboles pudieran...” was
born. Without ECOFILM Festival this piece wouldn’t of come to life, thus
this festival provided a space so my creativity and my team’s would
develop with the trust that (perhaps) there would be an audience who
would pay attention to what we wanted to say. When we learnt we had
won second place, naturally for a moment arose the question of who
had won first place. We took a look at the first place winner’s piece and
understood why the decision was made. The pieces accompanying us
in the winners group seem all to deserve what has been given to them.
Unfortunately, I was not able to be in the award ceremony. However,
part of our team was present and enjoyed from the ceremony the
festival offered to announce its winners. We all felt very content with
the results.

Para nosotros fue una experiencia increíble, muy enriquecedora. Es
muy motivador ver personas que tienen tantas cosas en común con
uno y a la vez tan diferentes. Que los ganadores hayan sido personas
muy jóvenes, como nosotros, nos alienta a seguir participando y saber
que no importa la edad que tengas puedes generar un cambio y lograr
cosas importantes. Nosotros estuvimos encantados con la manera en
que todo se llevó a cabo, la buena disposición y profesionalismo de
todos los que estuvieron involucrados en el concurso y el ambiente tan
agradable que se vivió. Nos sentimos orgullosos de que en nuestro país
se realicen este tipo de eventos que son de talla internacional y que
todo sea tan transparente. Es el segundo año en el que participamos y
tenemos planeado seguirlo haciendo mientras exista ECOFILM, ya que;
es una gran oportunidad para crear consciencia en nuestro entorno y
mejorar nuestro mundo, desde nuestras posibilidades.
For us, it was an incredible experience, very enriching. It is very
motivating to see other people who have so much in common with us
and at the same time are so different.
For the winners to have been very young as we are, encourages us to
continue participating knowing that no matter the age you have, you
can generate change and achieve important things.
We were thrilled as to how everything was done, the great willingness
and professionalism of all those who were involved in the contest and
the such nice atmosphere that was experienced.
We feel very proud that in our country these type of events is done,
that are of international caliber and where all is so transparent. It is
the second year we participate and we plan to continue doing so
while ECOFILM exists, because; it is a great opportunity to create
consciousness in our surrounding and improve our world, from our own
possibilities.
