From the Pastor: Last weekend
the Summer Olympic Games began in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil. Athletes from around
the world have arrived and are competing
in many different team and individual sports. Each
athlete hopes to win, but more than that, they hope to
show an Olympic spirit, to demonstrate good
sportsmanship, and to do the best they can.
I have always been inspired by the Olympic
Games. As a boy I remember the great swimmer,
Mark Spitz from the USA, the gymnasts Olga Korbut
from Russia and Nadia Comaneci from Romania, and
many others. My sisters and brothers loved a
Japanese gymnast by the name of Koji Gushiken,
from the 1984 Olympics. We liked to say his name. In
fact, with affection we called our sister Maria by that
name. Maria was very flexible as a toddler, like a
gymnast, like Koji Gushiken.
For the last 80 years the Olympics have been
politicized. Adolf Hitler was the first to do so as he
tried to show the world the greatness of Nazi
Germany in the Olympic Games of 1936. He seemed
more interested in the image Germany portrayed than
the spirit of “Olympism.” Here follows of definition of
the ideal of the Olympic Games:
“Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will
and mind. Blending sport with culture and education,
Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the
joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical
principles."
(Olympic Charter, Fundamental principles, n. 2)
The Olympic Games have become an expensive
effort for host countries to show themselves to the
world in a proud manner. However, many times the
effort to build stadiums and infrastructure have served
to impoverish many people and enrich a few. The
Games also become more of a competition between
nations than between athletes and teams. We have
created a burden and purpose for the Olympic Games
that they will never be able to bear.
In the end, I hope and pray that the Olympic
Games of 2016 will be safe, fun, and healthy. For
Brazil and its people, I hope and pray that they will
recover from the great, and at times, frantic efforts to
meet the needs of hosting the Games.

I am so pleased to be a part of the Pastoral Team
in service to the St. Willebrord’s Community of
Faith and I look forward to meeting all of you.
With the help of Alma, Griselle, Frater Jacob,
Lupita, and the rest of the staff, I am learning
about the many opportunities available for every
member of the parish to grow in our faith and
deepen relationships with Jesus, all while
strengthening the parish community connections.
I have been blessed with many years of
formation and experience in life-long catechesis
and evangelization, serving our Church on the
national, diocesan, and parish levels. I most
recently ministered at St. John the Evangelist
Parish, (just a few blocks from here) as well as at
the St. Norbert College Parish in De Pere. I am
looking forward to working with every household
of faith connected to St. Willebrord’s…I would
love your feedback, suggestions, and ideas.

August 12 to 14, 2016
The eighth Wisconsin Catholic Charismatic Conference, “Wisconsin on Fire“ will be held at the beautiful
Green Lake Conference Center in Green Lake, WI.
This family conference includes adult, youth, and children’s sessions. Our featured speaker will be Dave
Mangan who was one of the students who, in 1967
experienced what has been
described as the beginning of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the US.
Music will be provided by Traditional Division, a
young, talented group from Holmen, WI who love Jesus, the Catholic faith, music and sharing this love
with others. Their energy and faith are contagious!
Bishop David Ricken, from Green Bay will preside at
our Sunday liturgy.

Is a bilingual group for adults and the elderly. We
encourage you to join us and be part of this free
bilingual program. We will have Gospel-based
reflections and we will create various arts and crafts
in a friendly and multicultural environment. Our
mission is to build a more united relationship among
the members of our beautiful community at
St. Willebrord Parish.

There will be a special Sanctuary Meeting on

after the 12:05 Mass in the community center.

Mensaje de Nuestro Párroco: El
pasado fin de semana se iniciaron los
Juegos Olímpicos de Verano en Río de
Janeiro, Brasil . Los atletas de todo el
mundo han llegado y están compitiendo
en muchos equipos diferentes y deportes
individuales . Cada atleta espera ganar , pero más que
eso, espera mostrar un espíritu Olímpico, para
demostrar un buen espíritu deportivo, y para hacer lo
mejor que puedan.
Siempre me han inspirado los Juegos Olímpicos.
Cuando era niño recuerdo el gran nadador , Mark Spitz
de los EE.UU., las gimnastas Olga Korbut de Rusia y
Nadia Comaneci de Rumania, y muchos otros. Yo y mis
hermanas y hermanos amábamos a un gimnasta
japonés con el nombre de Koji Gushiken , de los Juegos
Olímpicos de 1984. Nos gustaba decir su nombre. De
hecho, con afecto le llamamos a nuestra hermana María
por ese nombre . María era muy flexible de niña, como
un gimnasta , como Koji Gushiken.
Durante los últimos 80 años, los Juegos Olímpicos han
sido politizados. Adolf Hitler fue el primero en hacerlo
mientras trataba de mostrar al mundo la grandeza de la
Alemania nazi en los Juegos Olímpicos de 1936. El
parecía más interesado en la imagen de Alemania que
el " Olimpismo." Esta es la definición del ideal de los
Juegos Olímpicos :
“Al asociar el deporte con la cultura y la formación, el
Olimpismo se propone crear un estilo de vida basado en
la alegría del esfuerzo, el valor educativo del buen
ejemplo, la responsabilidad social y el respeto por los
principios éticos fundamentales universales”.
Los Juegos Olímpicos se han convertido en un esfuerzo
costoso para los países donde se realizan porque los
países quieren mostrar un frente orgulloso al mundo. Sin
embargo, muchas veces el esfuerzo para construir los
estadios y la infraestructura solo han servido para
empobrecer a muchas personas y enriquecer a unos
pocos. Los juegos también se han convertido más en
una competición entre naciones que entre los atletas y
equipos. Hemos creado una carga y un propósito para
los Juegos Olímpicos que nunca serán capaces de
soportar.
Al final, espero y rezo para que los Juegos Olímpicos de
2016 sean seguros, divertidos y saludables. Para Brasil
y su gente, espero y oro que para que se recuperarse
de los grandes, y en ocasiones, frenéticos esfuerzos de
satisfacer las necesidades de la organización de los
Juegos Olímpicos.

Mi nombre es Susan Perrault y estoy muy
contenta de ser parte del equipo pastoral que sirve
a la comunidad de fe en St. Willebrord y espero conocerlos a todos ustedes. Con la ayuda de Alma,
Griselle, Jacob, Lupita, y el resto del personal, estoy
aprendiendo acerca de las muchas oportunidades
disponibles para todos los miembros de la parroquia
para hacer crecer nuestra fe y profundizar nuestra
relación con Jesús. A la misma vez fortaleciendo las
conexiones con la comunidad parroquial.
He sido bendecida con muchos años de
formación y experiencia siendo catequista y
ayudando con evangelización. He servido a nuestra
Iglesia en nivel nacional, diocesano y parroquiales.
Recientemente trabaje en la parroquia de St. John
the Evangelist (a sólo unas cuadras de aquí), y
también en la Parroquia de la universidad de
St. Norbert en De Pere. Deseo trabajar con cada
familia que atiende a St. Willebrord.
