THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
The disciples on the road to Emmaus walked and talked with Jesus all day long, but it was not
until they offered him hospitality and he blessed and broke the bread that they recognized
him. Simple acts of loving kindness still reveal the presence of God in our midst.

contact the Cathedral, 404-233-2145.
If you are a new parishioner to the
Cathedral in the last six months,
please join us for a New Parishioner

Elijah Cup
4
To participate in the Elijah Cup, contact Gail Gaboardi at [email protected].
At CTK, our parishioners have the opportunity to pray for vocations
with the “Elijah Cup”. Praying for vocations is a responsibility and
privilege of the laity. The “Elijah Cup” is a chalice that is presented to a
family or individual each Sunday at the conclusion of the 9 am Mass.
That family or individual takes the “Elijah Cup” home and uses it as a focal point
while praying daily for an increase in religious vocations. In successive weeks, the
“Elijah Cup” will be passed to other parishioners at the 9 am Mass.

Archdiocesan Art Show
The Archdiocesan Student Art Show is an
annual event featuring artwork created by our
students. This year the event took place at St.
Joseph Catholic School in Marietta on
Saturday, March 29.
Sixty-six students represented Christ the King
School with self-portraits, Cubism, landscapes, ceramic architectural plaques
and various projects created in art class this year. The show provided visitors
and art teachers with an opportunity to view the outstanding work by students
from all over the Archdiocese.
The art program at Christ the King tries to balance perceptual activities, creating
art, and most importantly, imagination skills. Students represented at the show
have had the opportunity to express themselves by using a wide range of
materials and techniques.

YOUR CATHEDRAL
PARISH FAMILY
YOUR LEGACY
In our earliest years, visionary
parishioners utilized planned giving
as a way to fulfill their hopes and
dreams for the Cathedral. For
example, one of our founding
parishioners established a charitable
trust in her will, naming the
Cathedral as beneficiary. The gift was
small at first but has grown
significantly over the decades
continuing to bless the Cathedral day
after day.
We invite you to consider a planned
gift to our Cathedral Fund as your
long term legacy. Your gift will help
support special projects and ministry
needs beyond our annual operating
expenses. A simple provision in your
will or a designation from a
retirement plan can create your
future gift .You can designate a
particular project or ministry or your
funds can be used for the general
needs of the Cathedral.

Msgr. Frank Challenges Summer Lunch Program
From August to May, thousands of children all over the Atlanta metro area receive
a breakfast and lunch at school free or at a reduced cost. For many, these meals
help to supplement what their families’ purchase or receive via the SNAP program
(aka food stamps).
However for many children, summer vacation begins a period of food insecurity, a
time when they are not certain when they will receive a meal because their
primary food resource, the school cafeteria, is closed.
MUST Ministries’ Summer Lunch Program provides lunches to more than
250,000 children in the metro area. This year marks the Cathedral’s 4th year of
participation in the MUST Summer Lunch Program and during that time, CTK
has provided approximately 8,000 lunches.
Last summer, Monsignor Frank challenged us to provide 1,000 lunches a week for
9 weeks during Summer 2014! The total cost of this outreach for the nine weeks
of June and July is approximately $10,000, or $1,100 per week to provide 1,000
lunches ($1.10/lunch).
Here’s how you can help:
Each week, we will collect the items we need to make the lunches. The more
items donated the more lunches we can provide to the children of metro Atlanta
who need a lunch. All food items must be individual portion sizes, sealed and
wrapped.

PRAYING PACEM IN
TERRIS: There are three
things which characterize
our modern age. In the
first place we notice a
progressive improvement
in the economic and social condition
of working men. They began by
claiming their rights principally in the
economic and social spheres, and then
proceeded to lay claim to their
political rights as well. Finally, they
have turned their attention to
acquiring the more cultural benefits of
society.
Today, therefore, working men all
over the world are loud in their
demands that they shall in no
circumstances be subjected to
arbitrary treatment, as though devoid
of intelligence and freedom. They
insist on being treated as human
beings, with a share in every sector of
human society: in the socio-economic
sphere, in government, and in the
realm of learning and culture. (39-40)

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 4,300 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
