Dear Parishioners and Friends:
Because the situation surrounding the threats to creation is so serious, on August 6, Pope Francis designated September 1 to be the first day of prayer for creation with these
words to his brother bishops:
The annual World Day of prayer for the Care of
Creation offers to individual believers and to the community a
precious opportunity to renew our personal participation in this
vocation as custodians of creation, raising to God our thanks
for the marvelous works that He has entrusted to our care,
invoking his help for the protection of creation and his mercy
for the sins committed against the world in which we live. …
I am asking you (Cardinal Turkson) to inform the Justice and Peace Commissions of the Bishops’ Conferences, as
well as the national and international Organizations involved in
environmental issues about the establishment of the World
Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, so that in union with
the needs and the local situation, this celebration can be rightly marked with the participation of the entire People of God:
priests, men and women religious and the lay faithful. For this
reason … the Episcopal Conferences (are) to set up relevant
initiatives to promote and illustrate this Day, so that this annual
celebration becomes a powerful moment of prayer, reflection,
conversion and the adoption of appropriate life styles.
Question for the week: What can we do to be better
stewards of creation? How can we begin to take Pope Francis more seriously about his Encyclical, Laudato Si, “On the
Care of Our Common Home”? [There will be a votive Mass
for Creation at 12:10 Mass this Tuesday]

Parish Pastoral Council elections: We congratulate our "winners" for the parish pastoral council:
Stephen Inman, Maggie Santana, and Barbara Albert. We thank Eloise Purdom [who was only one vote
short of her brother] and Michelle Cochon for running. Michelle is being asked to be the ex officio rep
for the Filipino Community anyway at council
meetings. And Eloise has consented to be our new
"anchor" person for the Eucharistic Ministers, helping
to chair the new effort to bring communion to the sick
and to gather regularly with other interested EMs for
spiritual formation. Our next meeting for Pastoral
Council is not until September 28.

Porque la situación referente al peligro a la creación es
tan serio, el 6 de agosto, el Papa Francisco designó el 1 de septiembre como el primer día de oración por la creación con estas
palabras a sus hermanos obispos:
El Día Anual de la Oración por el Cuidado de la Creación ofrece a los individuos creyentes y a la comunidad una preciosa oportunidad de renovar nuestra participación personal en
esta vocación como custodios de la creación, levantando a Dios
las gracias por tan maravilloso trabajo que Él nos ha encomendado para que lo cuidemos, invocando su ayuda por la protección de
la creación y su misericordia por los pecados cometidos en contra
del mundo en el que vivimos….
Le pido a usted (Cardenal Turkson) que informe a la Comisión de Justicia y Paz de la Conferencia de Obispos, como también a las Organizaciones nacionales e internacionales envueltas
en asuntos de cuidado del medio ambiente del Día Mundial de
Oración por el Cuidado de la Creación, para que en unión con las
necesidades y la situación local, esta celebración pueda ser marcada correctamente con la participación de toda la Gente de Dios:
sacerdotes, hombres y mujeres religiosas y los laicos fieles. Por
esta razón…la Conferencia Episcopal (deben) de poner iniciativas
relevantes para promover e ilustrar este Día, para que esta celebración anual se vuelva un ponderosa momento de oración, reflexión, conversión y de adoptar estilos de vida apropiados.
Pregunta de la semana: ¿Qué podemos hacer para
mejorar la corresponsabilidad de la creación? ¿Cómo podemos
comenzar a tomar seriamente al Papa Francisco acerca de su
Encíclica, Laudato Si, “En el Cuidado de Nuestra Casa Común”?

Elecciones del Consejo Pastoral de la Parroquia: Felicitamos a nuestros “ganadores” para el consejo pastoral
de la parroquia: Stephen Inman, Maggie Santana, y Barbara Albert. Damos gracias a Eloise Purdom [quien tuvo
solo un voto menos que su hermano] y a Michelle Cochón
por participar. A Michelle le pedimos ser el representante
de oficio para la Comunidad Filipina en las reuniones del
consejo. Eloísa ha estado de acuerdo en ser nuestra
nueva “ancla” para los Ministros de Eucaristía, ayudando
a coordinar el nuevo esfuerzo de traer la comunión a los
enfermos y de reunirse regularmente con otros MExs para la formación espiritual. Nuestra próxima reunión del
Consejo Pastoral no será sino hasta el 28 de septiembre.

September 6, we will have an opportunity to vote for someone whom we think embodies the values of our parish,
someone who has been a good example of stewardship, using their gifts in service to the parish for the glory of
God. Prayerfully consider who you think that person is.

$18,881

PRE! Pre-registration for the 2015/ 2016
Religious Education program will be after all
masses on August 29/30th and September 5/6th.
Classes will begin on Sunday, September 13th at
9:00 a.m. If your child is receiving a Sacrament, either First Communion* (2nd grade or
older) or Confirmation** (9th grade or above),
we MUST have a copy of their baptismal certificate on file. If your child was baptized at St. Joseph, we should have that information on file.
But if your child was baptized somewhere other
than St. Joseph, you must provide it at the time
of registration. Registration WILL NOT be completed until we have a copy of their baptismal
certificate!
*Participation in 1st grade PRE classes is required to receive the Sacrament of First Holy
Communion in 2nd grade.
**Participation in a 2 year Confirmation program
is required to receive the Sacrament of
Confirmation.

at 7:15 in the parish hall to begin the detail work
of our exciting September Stewardship Month.

Welcoming the Stranger
1. Personally welcome a newcomer to your neighborhood, parish, school, or workplace.
2. The next time you encounter a homeless person,
look him or her in the eye and smile; say hello if it is safe
to do so.
3. Pray for someone that you need to forgive.
4. Attend the funeral of an acquaintance or a stranger.

digámosle hola si es seguro hacerlo.
3. Rece por alguien a quien tienes que perdonar.
4. Atendamos el funeral de un allegado de un extraño.
Finance Committee: will meet this Monday night, August 31, at 6 PM, in
the conference room to rally for the Stewardship Month we are about to begin.
Calling All Catechists! W e w ill meet this Thursday evening, September 3 rd at 6 PM in
the Conference Room to get ourselves ready to serve God’s children with new vigor!
RCIA will meet this Tuesday, Sept 1, at 7:15 PM in the parish hall. This is the second session in
the new series for those who wish to join the Catholic Church or to return to the basics of their
faith journey with new insight and return to the sacraments. Regular material “information”
classes will resume the following week.
The bible study group Searching Souls meets every Wednesday at 10:00
AM in the social hall. We use the practice of Lectio Divina (read, meditate,
pray, contemplate) for the Mass readings of that particular day as the basis for
our study. Please join us and bring your bible.
