Today’s Readers are Tomorrow’s Leaders
Studies show that the more interest a parent demonstrates in their child’s education, the more
interest a child will have in their own education. With these facts in mind, we encourage parents and
other caregivers to spend time in reading aloud and developing discussion questions with your children.
You can use the following types of questions as a guide with any story you read with your child.
*What did you like about this story? … and Why?
*Who was your favorite character in the book?
*Discuss colors that are seen during the story.
*Point to different objects or characters on the page and ask – What is this?
*Discuss sounds made by characters or objects in the story. Ex. Horns – honk, Cows – moo, etc.
With the Poetry Pals books you can use these same questions or refer to the lesson on the back of each
book. Use your imagination and ask other questions using Who, What, Where, When, and Why. Try to
avoid asking questions that lead to “yes” or “no” answers.

mas interes tendran los ninos en su propia educacion. Con estos hechos en mente nosotros animamos
a los padres y otras personas profesionales que trabajan con ninos, que pasen mas tiempo leyendo en voz
alta, desarroyando y discutiendo preguntas con sus hijos. Usted puede usar los siguientes tipos de
preguntas como en nuestro guia con cualquier historia que usted lea con su hijo(a).
¿Que le gusto acerca de esta historia?… y Porque?
¿Quien fue su favorito personaje en el libro?
¿Discuta colores que vio durante la historia?
¿Senala los diferentes objetos y personajes de la pagina y pregunta - Que es esto?
¿Discuta sonidos hechos por los personajes o objetos en la historia. Ejem. El claxon - bocinas
de auto, Vacas - muu, etc.
Con los libros de Poetry Pals (Companeros en Poesia) usted puede usar las mismas preguntas o referirse a
la leccion que esta atras de cada libro. Use su imaginacion y pregunte otras preguntas usando Quien, Que,
Donde, Cuando y Porque. Evite preguntas tomando ventaja con respuestas “Si” o “No”.
