Ahora y siempre! Praise be Jesus Christ...Now and forever! "Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant... (Heb. 12:24)" One of the expressions that I like to use is that we not only believe in Jesus but we imitate Jesus. Believing in Jesus can be a very idealistic expression of ones own faith. It can be a very theoretical and intellectual approach to Jesus. Jesus can be an idea for us. An idea that we worship and adore. The intellectual approach to faith often emphasizes the otherness of Jesus. It is interested in the teachings of Jesus and about Jesus. Theologians call it the high Christology. Jesus is God. Imitation of Christ emphasizes the humanity of Jesus. This is another approach to Jesus. We look at his behavior. We look at how he interacted with himself, with his family, the disciples, religious and political leaders, and the occupied Roman forces. We look at how he made decisions, how he prayed, etc. Theologians call it the low Christology. Jesus is man. In the midst of these two approaches to Jesus, we discover ourselves. We learn about the connections between us and God. Jesus Christ is God and man. His humanity and our humanity is this same. His Divinity is the divinity of the Godhead. Jesus is the mediator. By imitating Jesus' behavior, we become like him. Believing and taking seriously what he taught us, we become closer to God. Last weekend was my installation. Once more, I would like to thank all the people who were involved in making this such a great celebration. The music was beautiful. The two choirs worked so well together. The parishioners ensured that we had enough food...and it was good! After the Liturgy, many people came down to the reception to talk with each other and to enjoy the fine food. I heard many positive comments about the members of the other Christian Churches and the non-Christians who came for this occasion. I was happy to see so many archdiocesan priests at the Mass. The altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and ushers were on the top of their work. It was good to see how we are one community. We are of the European, Latin, Asian and African descent. I give thanks to God and to all of you for this event. St. Colette, Pray for us! Pax, Fr. Pax, P. Michal Pastor 3 Upcoming Attractions at the St. Colette’s Halpin Hall As described in the Gospel of Mark, 1:17-18, “Come, follow me” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Jesus called his first disciples to him to share in the good news and to share that good news with others. Please come and join us as we pray, sing, and meditate on the light of Christ in our lives. God is love; He calls us to celebrate his name in community with each other. Taize, named after a small village in France is a form of meditative and repetitive prayer and song. People of all faiths, understanding, and philosophy are invited to join us as we rediscover who we are as one people united under God. Stay tuned for a full flyer next week. Michael Myers, Music Director The Knight of Columbus, Holy Rosary Council 4483 are proud to announce that our annual Intellectual Disabilities Tootsie Roll Drive to help our local groups and our St. Colette SPRED team will be at St. Colette at all of the Masses on September 10th and 11th. Adoration begins after 8:00 a.m. Mass and ends with Benediction at 5:00 p.m. It is held in the Chapel. Come and visit for ten minutes or one hour. All are welcome. Kneeling before the Holy Sacrament in Adoration I meditated on changes in our life. There are many happy changes that bring us joy. The baptism of a baby or friend, our first Holy Communion day, our Confirmation day, our graduations, falling in love, our Wedding day, the birth a child, a new job, purchasing a home, meeting people who become our friends, going to a ordination of a new deacon or priest, these are some of the wonderful changes that take place in our life. Some of these happy moments will profoundly change us forever. There are changes that cause us to pause in silence. The loss of our jobs, the end of relationships, accidents, the flooding of our homes, fires. The death of our dearly beloved family members and our friends. These changes and other tragic life changes fill us with sorrow, disappointment and great sadness. These moments profoundly change us forever. Looking up at the Holy Sacrament, the Body and Blood Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus present at the Altar, I thought of the life of our Blessed Mother Mary. I imagined the happy changes in her life, when as such a young women, an angel appeared to her and announced she would be the mother of Jesus, Son of the Most High. She knew that the birth of her son brought to all of mankind, God with us. What joy she must have known. She watched as Jesus changed water into wine, and as He preached of the coming of the Kingdom of God. She must have felt the warm wonderful feelings of motherhood at these times. These happy moments profoundly changed her and us forever. Looking at the Holy Sacrament I felt the sadness of our Blessed Mother Mary when she had to witness the scourging of her Son at the pillar, the crowning with thorns, the carrying of His cross, and the crucifixion and death of her son Jesus. What sorrow, disappointment and great sadness she must have felt. These moments profoundly changed her and us forever. Once again, I searched my mind for an answer to this stream of changes that make up our life story. The greatest love story of our lives, is the story of God’s love for us and how we grow in love for Him. I remembered that an angel of the Lord said, do not be frightened. He has been raised. He has risen. At the Ascension our Lord blessed the apostles and was taken up to heaven. All were filled with the Holy Spirit. We are part of this wonderful miracle. We too will be taken up to heaven. The greatest of all of the profound changes is yet to come to us. As I sat before Christ our Lord, in the Holy Sacrament, I thanked God for our eternal life. Come let us Adore Him. G. McCusker Confessions Confesiones We will be having Spanish Language confessions every first Sunday of the month at 11:30AM in the Reconciliation Room. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eucharist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.
