Their closeness to God’s love is like Jesus’ generous donation of Himself to the Father. The Church recognizes these men and women as heroes and heroines who deserve to be a model of inspiration. They remind us that the Church is holy, and is called to show God’s holiness by living the life of Christ. Our sanctity is just like that of the saints; their lives were conditioned by the culture and history of their own day. But in essence it is the same. Today we are called to do the same and imitate the lives of the saints. As St. Paul says in the First Letter to the Corinthians 3:16-17, “you know that you are temples of God and that His Spirit dwells in you.” Let us ask our patron St. Hugh that he will continue to inspire us in our work helping others. Fr. Federico “Could you not watch one hour with me?” (Mk 14:37) JOIN US FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON THURSDAYS IN THE CHAPEL From 8:30 am to 7:00 pm Fiesta de Todos los Santos (Ciclo B) Rincón del Párroco Los santos y beatos son signos especiales de la presencia de Dios. (Mc. 14, 37) ADORACIÓN EUCARÍSTICA LOS JUEVES DURANTE TODO EL DÍA EN LA CAPILLA De 8:30 am a 7:00 pm PS: Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Grove Outreach starts today. Feast of All Saints Page 7 The POPE SPEAKS/HABLA EL PAPA Humble Service in Imitation of Jesus Homily on the canonization of Saints Vincenzo Grossi, Mary of the Immaculate Conception and Louis Martin and Marie Zélie Guérin October 18, 2015 There can be no compatibility between a worldly understanding of power and the humble service which must characterize authority according to Jesus’ teaching and example. Ambition and careerism are incompatible with Christian discipleship; honour, success, fame and worldly triumphs are incompatible with the logic of Christ crucified. Instead, compatibility exists between Jesus, “the man of sorrows”, and our suffering…. Jesus exercises a true priesthood of mercy and compassion. He knows our difficulties at first hand, he knows from within our human condition; the fact that he is without sin does not prevent him from understanding sinners. His glory is not that born of ambition or the thirst for power; it is is the glory of one who loves men and women, who accepts them and shares in their weakness, who offers them the grace which heals and restores, and accompanies them with infinite tenderness amid their tribulations. Virtue of the Month: PATIENCE During the month of November, St. Hugh students will focus on the virtue of Patience. Patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that gives us the ability to wait with openness and acceptance for God’s guidance. They will learn the story of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne and what makes her a wonderful model of patience. She was a French missionary who worked with the Potawami people in Kansas. Her difficulty in learning both English and the Potawami language required great patience and an openness to God’s direction in life. Page 10 St. Hugh 2nd Grade Learns About Baptism Water is very important. It brings life to animals, plants, and people. Water is also an important sign for members of the Catholic Church. Children learn to become followers of Jesus through the waters of the Sacrament of Baptism; the first sacrament we receive; the sacrament where we become followers of Jesus Christ. The second grade students of Saint Hugh School have been learning the significance and meaning of the symbols used in the Baptism, such as the water. Through a reenactment of the sacrament they also learned the significance and meaning of the paschal candle, white garment and the oils used.
