Holy Father’s Intentions for May 2014
General Intention
Media. That the media may be instruments in the
service of truth and peace.
Mission Intention:
Mary’s Guidance. That Mary, Star of Evangelization, may guide the Church in proclaiming Christ to
all nations
Please remember these
intentions in your prayers,
especially when you pray the Rosary.
Intenciones del Santo Padre para Mayo
2014
Intencion General
I wish to thank all of the volunteers
who helped make the St. Colette
Produce Mobile Food Distribution
event in April another success. We
served over 185 families and I understand the weather was very good.
Again, thanks to all and look for
ward to our next event in the Fall.
Yours in Christ, Mark Stastny.
STAY WITH US, LORD
Walk with us, Lord, along the road of
resurrection! Explain for us, so slow
to believe, the things that Scripture
says of you. Break the bread of the
Eucharist with us whenever we share
our lives with our brothers and sisters. Stay with us each time night approaches and the daylight fades in our
hearts!

OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP
ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO
May 2014
Dear Friends in Christ,
Mother’s Day is a day to honor the special women—mothers, grandmothers, aunts, friends—
who have fed, nurtured, loved and shaped us into the people we are today. It is through their unconditional love that we begin to understand the depth of Christ’s love for us, and his command to share
that love with one another.
Mother’s Day is therefore an appropriate day to support a critical mission of the Church: the
care of the poor and vulnerable. By participating in the Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Collection,
each one of us has the opportunity to share Christ’s love with those who are hungry, homeless, hurting and in need of help. We are greatly blessed in the Archdiocese of Chicago to have an extraordinary social-service agency like Catholic Charities to help us fulfill Jesus’ command to care for those
in need.
As we share our resources with the poor and vulnerable, we not only allow God to bless others through us, but we are blessed as well. The poor teach us the virtues of tolerance, meekness and
patience. God comes to us cloaked in poverty. It is through our connection to the poor that we encounter the suffering Christ and so humble ourselves and truly open our hearts to his tremendous
grace and mercy.
I thank you for your past support, and I invite you to again join me in making a contribution to
the Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Collection. Your gift will help serve more than one million people of all ages, races and religions in Cook and Lake Counties, including one out of every three citizens of the City of Chicago.
May God bless you and your families. You and those you love are in my prayers; please keep
me in yours.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I.

POPE FRANCIS TWEETS OF THE WEEK
There will be a meeting for the Ministers of Care on

All are encouraged to attend.

We will be displaying our new
garden plan for the church

future bulletin, we will inform
you on how you can help us
carry out this plan.
What Return Shall I Make to the Lord for All the Good
Things He Has Given Me?
Stewardship by the letters:
U is for united in Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that
inspires each of us to respond to the call of stewardship. Stewardship does not happen without an
experience of conversion. Perhaps it is the simple
experience of realizing that I’m doing an ordinary
action with love rather than a sense of duty. In sharing conversion experiences with each other, we become united support systems that will affirm and challenge our commitment to stewardship.
Mayordomía no sucede
Today I wanted to tell all of you about an important service that we are bringing into our church on
5/17/2014. As many of you may not know, stroke is a
leading cause of death today, affec ng over 750,000 people each year. According to the Na onal Stroke Associaon, approximately 97% of Americans cannot recognize
the signs of stroke and that is why we have decided to
bring Life Line Screening, a leading mobile health screening service, here to offer life-saving ultrasound screenings. These tests are important and necessary.
Stroke can change your life, but it can also take
your life. Please consider taking part in these life-saving
screenings. By signing up for this health event, not only
will you be able to receive $10 off any package of $149
or more, but St. Cole e Church will also receive a
$10 dona on for every member who signs up and
a ends this Life Line Screening event. To schedule your
appointment and to receive this special offer, please sign
up only by either calling the dedicated Helping Hands
phone number, which is 1-800-324-9458 or by visi ng www.helpinghandsforhealth.com.

OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP
ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO
Dios viene a nosotros
Francis Cardenal George, O.M.I.

Jesus himself: a joy sought and found in obedience to the
Father and in the gi of self to others. …By looking at
Jesus you will learn what it means to be poor in spirit,
