Preparación del humidor / Humidor preparation

Thank you for entrusting Fum® your green care. To guarantee the
correct use and optimum efficiency of Large B4CC humidor
please read carefully this user’s manual.
Antes de empezar a utilizar el humidor de mesa Large B4CC,
debe prepararlo para que cumpla su principal función: mantener
el green en óptimas condiciones.
Before starting to use your Large B4CC humidor you must
prepare it so the product may fulfill its main function: keep the
green in optimum conditions.
Preparación del humidor / Humidor preparation
1. Humectar las paredes internas, divisiones y bandejas del
humidor con un paño humedecido con agua destilada.
1. Humidify the humidor internal walls, divisions and trays with a
cloth dampened with distilled water.
2. Coloque un vaso de agua destilada dentro del humidor y déjelo
72 h dentro del humidor cerrado. El agua será absorbida por el
humidor y este podrá, más fácilmente, mantener la humedad
óptima para la conservación del green. Es posible acelerar este
proceso siempre y cuando el agua que se coloque dentro del
humidor esté tibia y no fría, en este caso la absorción habitual del
agua suele ser de 24h (con el humidor cerrado).
2. Place a glass filled with distilled water inside the humidor and
close it, do not open it in 72h. The water will be absorbed by the
humidor allowing it to keep the optimum humidity for the green
care. It is possible to accelerate this process by placing lukewarm
distilled water instead of cold. In this case, the humidor will absorb
the water in about 24h (provided that the humidor has been
opened during the process).
3.Esperar 24h o 72h tras el proceso nº2 para humedecer las
esponjas humidificadoras según proceda.

process nº2) before humidifying the sponges

1. Abrir el humidor.
2. Extraer la bolsa de gel silica del interior del humidor.
3. Extraer la tapa de madera del espacio de humidificación y
retirar las esponjas de alta densidad de su interior.
4. Colocar las esponjas del humidificador en un recipiente con
una solución de propilenglicol o agua destilada. Mantenga la
esponja sumergida en el líquido durante dos minutos
aproximadamente.
5. Pasados dos minutos, retire las esponjas del líquido,
compruebe que no tienen exceso de solución o agua y
colóquelas en su espacio humidificador.
6. Coloque de nuevo la tapa de madera previamente extraída en
su lugar correspondiente
1. Open the humidor.
2. Remove the silica gel bag from the interior.
3. Remove the wooden lid from the humidification space and
remove the high density sponges from its interior.
4. Place the sponge, previously removed, in a pan containing
either a propylene glycol solution or distilled water. Keep the
humidifier submerged in the liquid during two minutes
approximately.
5. After two minutes, take the sponge out of the liquid, make
sure that there is no water or solution excess, and place it
again inside its humidification space.
6. Place the humidification space wooden lid previously removed
in its spot.

FUM® supplies two sponges, you can choose using them both or just one
depending in the humidity you’d like to achieve inside the humidor.
Las esponjas de alta densidad son regulables, exprímelas más o menos
dependiendo de la humedad que quieras obtener en el interior del humidor. The high density sponges supplied are adjustable, you just need to wring them
harder or softer depending on the desired humidity inside the humidor.

se situa entre el 55% y 65%.
The ideal relative humidity for optimum green conservation is
between 55% and 65%.
Como se menciona en apartados anteriores, para que el humidor
FUM® pueda mantener la humedad relativa adecuada en su
interior, la/s esponjas deben estar debidamente humedecidas.
As mentioned previously, FUM® humidor sponges must be
properly humidified in order to keep the proper interior relative
humidity for green keeping.
En caso de tener un exceso de humedad, ver el apartado FAQ’s
de este manual.
Please refer to the FAQ’s section if there is humidity excess in the
interior of the humidor.

Un adecuado cuidado y mantenimiento de tu humidor garantiza
mantener en las mejores condiciones su producto durante
muchos años. Los siguientes consejos son básicos en el cuidado
del humidor.
Proper care of your humidor will help to give you years of smoking
pleasure. The following are basic guidelines for humidor care.
Limpieza
Cleaning
Cuando vayas a limpiar el humidor, para evitar rallarlo, utiliza
siempre un paño de microfibra limpio, que no contenga partículas
de ningún tipo. Si no se usa este tipo de paño, se puede rallar el
humidor e incluso contaminar la madera y/o contenido del
humidor. No uses ningún producto químico para limpiar la parte
externa ni interna del humidor; esto puede dañar la calidad, sabor
y olor del producto.
To avoid scratching, always use a microfiber cloth which is clean
and free of any particles when cleaning your humidor. Failing to do
so can cause scratches and even contaminate the wood or the
contents of the humidor. Do not use any cleaners or chemicals on
the inside nor outside of the humidor because your green will
absorb most odors and chemicals naturally. This can tarnish and
damage the quality, taste, and smell of your green. Use your own
discretion on the outside of your humidor when it comes to
cleaning.

Cualquiera de los siguientes líquidos pueden emplearse para recargar
un humidificador de esponja:
Any of the following liquids is adequate for filling and/or refilling the
sponge humidifier:
Agua destilada: de venta en farmacias, tiendas de repuestos para
coches, supermercados, etc. ✴
Para el uso en humidores, el agua destilada tiene ventajas sobre el
agua de grifo: protege el humidificador de la cal y el moho. El agua de
grifo contiene minerales que pueden cerrar los poros de la esponja del
humidificador. Además el agua corriente contiene cloro y bacterias
que pueden tener un impacto negativo en el humidor, por ejemplo
causar moho.

Solución especial 50% propilenglicol y 50% agua destilada: el
propilenglicol es un líquido incoloro, inodoro e inocuo que tiene dos
características sumamente favorables para su uso en humidores. En
primer lugar, se previene la formación de mohos y bacterias. En
segundo lugar, el compuesto forma una delgada capa en la superficie
del humidor que permite absorber la humedad en niveles del 65% y
que puede también emitir humedad cuando esta sea inferior al 55%. Distilled water: sold in pharmacies, supermarkets, etc. ✴
For humidor use, the distilled water has several advantages amongst
tap water: it protects the humidifier from mold and lime. The tap water
contains minerals that may close the humidifier’s sponge pores. Also,
the tap water has chlorine and bacteria that may have a negative
impact in the humidor such as mold growth. ✴
50% propylene glycol and 50% distilled water special solution: the
propylene glycol is a colorless, odorless and innocuous liquid that has
two extremely advantageous features when used in humidifying
systems: in first place it prevents mold and bacteria growth. In second
place, the compound creates a thin layer in the humidor surface that
absorbs the humidity when it goes over 65% and can also spread
humidity when the relative value is under 55%.

Where to place the humidor
Coloca el humidor en una superficie estable donde no sufra golpes.
Para prevenir el crecimiento de moho, ten tu humidor en un lugar
fresco y seco. Evita colocar el humidor en un lugar donde le dé
permanentemente la luz solar. Si la humedad y la temperatura
aumentan demasiado, el producto puede verse dañado.
Place the humidor on a flat stable surface where it will not be
unreasonably bumped or disturbed. Store your humidor in a cool,
dry place to prevent mold growth. Avoid placing your humidor in
direct sunlight. If the temperature and humidity gets too high, your
green can develop a potentially damaging fungus or mold.

Regular checks
Debes revisar el nivel de humedad y temperatura al menos una vez
cada dos semanas para asegurar que los valores no cambian.
Como norma, cuando la humedad baja del 55% debes añadir más
solución de PG o agua destilada a la esponja humidificadora.
Nunca se debe usar agua del grifo para recargar la esponja ya que
contiene minerales y cloro que pueden obstruir los poros dejándola
inservible. Añade unas gotas de solución PG o agua destilada a la
esponja humidificadora hasta que esté bien saturada; asegúrate de
que no pierde agua.
Make sure that you check the humidity level at least every two
weeks to ensure that the humidity does not vary. As a rule, when
humidity drops to 55% you should add more PG solution or distilled
water to the humidifier. You should never use tap water as it
contains minerals and chlorine that can clog the humidifier’s pores
and inhibit operation. Add a few drops of PG solution or distilled
water to the humidifier until it is well saturated. Dry off the surface of
the humidifier and make sure that it does not drip water.

¿Por qué mi humidor no mantiene la humedad adecuada?
Why isn’t my humidor keeping the proper humidity?
El motivo más habitual por el cual un humidor no mantiene la
humedad es que no ha sido preparado adecuadamente antes de
ser usado.
The most common reason for humidors not maintaining humidity
is that they were not prepared as they must initially be. It is really
important that you take time and effort to humidify your humidor
prior to loading it up with your green.
Asegúrate de que no estás abriendo y cerrando excesivamente el
humidor. Cada vez que lo haces, permites que entre o se escape
la humedad.
Make sure that you are closing properly the humidor, if not, the
humidity can escape or enter the humidor.
Comprueba también si el humidor está colocado cerca de una
fuente de calor o frío; esto afectará a la humedad.
Si el humidor ha sido movido de sitio recientemente, puede que el
higrómetro necesite unos días para recobrar el equilibrio.
Make sure that you’re not opening and closing the humidor lid too
often. Every time you open the lid of your humidor you are
allowing humidity to either enter or escape.
Check if your humidor is placed near a heat or cold source, this
will affect the humidity.If the humidor has been recently moved, the
hygrometer might need some time to come up to equilibrium.

¿Dónde puedo comprar Propylene Glycol?

Where can I buy Propylene Glycol?
PG is available, though often only by special order from any fullservice, in Pharmacies.
How long can I store my green in the humidor?
Under the right conditions of temperature and humidity and not too
many openings of the cigar humidor, you should be able to store
your green for a long time.
How do I deal with low or high humidity inside the humidor?
¿Cómo puedo resolver una humedad alta o baja dentro del
humidor?
Si tu green está demasiado seco dentro del humidor, añade agua a
la esponja. Si está demasiado húmedo, se pueden tomar las
siguientes medidas: 1. Colocar la/las bolitas de gel de sílica en el
interior del humidor. 2. Abrir la tapa del humidor durante el tiempo
necesario hasta que pierda la humedad excesiva y/o escurre la
esponja para eliminar un posible exceso de agua o PG.
If your green is too dry inside your humidor, add more water to the
humidifier. If it is too wet, you may: 1. Place the silica gel bag inside
the humidor. 2. Open the lid for a while and let it dry out. You might
also want to check the water or PG that the humidifier sponge has,
it might have too much.
