Teacher Spotlight
The 8th grade girls basketball team,
under Coach Brown’s leadership, had
quite the season, thanks to what their
coach calls their “determination and
drive to never quit.” They began the
season with only eight players, but that
did not stop them. Instead, the girls
sought help from Coach Kouros to
Kesha Brown & 8th Grade
recruit other talented players. This led them to
Regional Championship Team
exceed expectations by winning regionals and
going to sectionals. The girls, and Coach Brown, never gave up.
Coach Brown’s leadership has never been limited to the basketball court. Throughout the
course of the season and beyond, she takes a special interest in her players’ academic lives
as well. She makes sure that “they know that they’re not just athletes, but that their grades are
going to carry them too. If they have the talent to receive a scholarship, they must have the
grades as well.”
Seeing the positive growth in her players made Coach Brown change as well this season. She
has learned to be more patient, like what her more experienced players showed to those new
to the sport, and she has learned to hold on to her determination, no matter what. Here is her
parting advice to this year’s team: “Continue to work hard and be determined to achieve greatness, despite how things look or how hard they may be.”
PARENT SURVEY
Joliet Public Schools District 86 is always looking for ways to improve communication
and connections between home and school. One way for parents to learn about our curriculum, services within the school and parenting topics is through attending parent
workshops. In an effort to plan workshops that will be useful and meaningful to our
parent community, we would like to hear from you about how we can best meet your

Kindergarten Round-Up
Joliet Public Schools District 86 kindergarten registration for the upcoming 20162017 school year will take place on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and
Friday, March 4th from 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at District 86 elementary schools. Any
child who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2016 must be registered. An or iginal state issued or cer tified copy of the child’s bir th cer tificate
and three proofs of residency are required. In addition, a physical examination and
proof of immunization records must be submitted by the first day of school. For
families living in the Forest Park neighborhood, registration will take place at the

Spotlight Maestro
El equipo de baloncesto de niñas de
octavo grado, bajo el liderazgo del
entrenador Brown, a tenido una buena temporada, gracias a lo que su
entrenador llama la "determinación y
fuerza de no dares por vencido."
Ellos comenzaron la temporada con
sólo 8 jugadores, pero eso no los
deteneos. En cambio, las chicas le

pidieron ayuda al entrenador Kouros para
reclutar a otros jugadores talentosos. Esto
los llevó a superar las expectativas, al ganar las regionales y pasar los seccionales.
Las niñas y el entrenador Brown, nunca se dieron por vencidos.
El liderazgo del entrenador Brown nunca se ha limitado a la cancha de baloncesto. A lo
largo de la temporada y más allá, ella toma un interés especial en la vida académica
de sus jugadores. Ella asegura que "ellos saben que no sólo son atletas, pero que sus
calificaciones se van con ellos también. Si ellos tienen el talento para recibir una beca,
deben tener las calificaciones también."
Al ver el crecimiento positivo de sus jugadores hizo que el entrenador Brown cambie
también esta temporada. Ella ha aprendido a ser más paciente, al igual que sus jugadores más experimentados mostraron a los nuevos en el deporte, y ha aprendido a
aferrarse a su determinación. He aquí su consejo de despedida para el equipo de este
año: "Sigan trabajando duro y esten decididos a alcanzar grandeza, a pesar de cómo
se ven las cosas o lo difícil que puedan ser."

Las Escuelas Públicas de Joliet Distrito 86 siempre están buscando formas de mejorar la comunicación y conexiones entre el hogar y la escuela. Una manera para que los padres aprendan sobre nuestro currículo, servicios dentro de la escuela y temas de crianza es a través de
asistir a talleres para padres. Para planificar los talleres que serán útiles y con sentido a nuestra comunidad, nos gustaría saber cuáles son sus necesidades e intereses. Para ayudarnos a

Inscripciones Para Kindergarten
La Escuelas Públicas de Joliet Distrito 86 tendrán inscripciones para el próximo año escolar 2016-2017 para los niños entrando a kindergarten, el jueves, 3 de marzo de 5:00-7:00
p.m. y el viernes, 4 de marzo de 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. en cada escuela primaria del Distrito
86. Cualquier niño que tenga cinco años en o antes del 1° de septiembre 2016 debe ser
registrado. Tiene que pr esentar el Acta de Nacimiento or iginal del niño
(emitida por el estado donde nació) o una copia certificada, y tres pruebas de residencia. Además, un examen físico y prueba de las vacunas tiene que ser presentadas antes o el primer día de clases. Para las familias que viven en el vecindario de
la escuela Forest Park, el registro será en el Centro Comunitario Forest Park. Para
