We would appreciate you checking the expiration date on all items. We also are collecting toys and we need large shopping bags. Even just one item will help. Bring your donation to Halpin Hall for the Food Pantry workers to distribute. There is also a collection box in the church entrance. Matching Donations - Some companies encourage their employees to be involved in charitable work through donations or spending time working with a charity. As an incentive many of these companies provide a matching donation to the charities their employees support. Some companies not only match what an employee gives, but sometimes give a multiple of two or three times the employee’s gift. Does your company do this? It is worth looking into. They may not support religious institutions, but often will support a school. Either way, it can make your Christmas gift to St. Colette a very special one this year. Page Three Weekly Reflection GOD'S WORD TODAY The statements of three men recently ordained to the priesthood reveal some strikingly similar sentiments. One man said, "When I first told my family and friends that I was entering the seminary, none was surprised. They told me, 'Oh, we expected that.' I was shocked." Another said, "Mrs. Graham, my third grade teacher, told me that I was going to be a priest. I remember thinking, 'How does she know?' " A third added, "I've always had the feeling God was touching me on the shoulder, saying, sometimes gently and sometimes not, 'I want you.' "Today's readings remind us that all vocations are divinely inspired. Similar to the way Jesus has been sent by God on his divine mission, John the Baptist is also sent from God. He came for a very specific task, to speak for the Light. John the Baptist is not the Light, he is only a witness to speak for the Light. What about us? We have all been chosen specially by God to do something. How can we find out what that something is? Paul's words to the Thessalonians in the second reading offer a way: Be happy. Pray. Be thankful. Avoid evil. And never try to suppress the Spirit that directs our lives as we witness to the good news of Christ and anticipate his glorious coming as well. Even Jesus used the resources given to him by his Father to find his way. The words of the prophet in today's first reading were first spoken in regard to the restoration of Zion, but when Jesus finds them and speaks them they refer to his own divine mission. "The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me," Jesus will say (Isaiah 61:1). And you can imagine friends, family, teachers of Jesus responding: "We already knew that." Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Company Advent Reflections “The purpose and cause of the incarnation was that He might illuminate the world by His wisdom and excite it to the love of Himself.” -Peter Abelard “Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect.” -Oren Arnold Reflecion Semanal LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY Los testimonios de tres hombres recientemente ordenados sacerdotes revelan ciertos sentimientos sorprendentemente similares. Me quedé atónito". Otro dijo: "La Sra. Copyright (c) J. S. Mass (Español) Archbishop Cupich and Fr. Barron welcomed 155 men to the "Who Will Fill These Shoes?" vocation event on Black Friday. Some came a second year to meet our new Archbishop and to hear more about the call to the priesthood. Archbishop Cupich encouraged them to keep using their imagination as they hear more about the life of seminarians and priests. Men ages 16-19 had breakout sessions led by St. Joseph College Seminarian. They heard about the Quigley Scholars High School Program and St. Joseph College Seminary. Men 20 and older had breakout sessions led by Mundelein Seminarians where they heard about being a seminarian and about two discernment programs: Exploring Priesthood Weekends and INSEARCH Discernment Program. Fr. Barron also welcomed members of the John Paul II Eucharistic Adoration Association, who brought a Monstrance blessed by St. John Paul II. Fr. Barron blessed and commissioned them to spend the entire time in Adoration at the Seminary's John Pal II Chapel. Seminarians and those discerning were grateful for the prayer support.
