My dear parishioners,
Today is the last day that Deacon Mark Bristol is
officially with us. The assignments for the transitional
deacons end today so that they may finish their studies and
prepare for their ordinations to the priesthood. It has been a
pleasure to have Deacon (soon-to-be Father) Bristol with us
since November. I believe we have all been inspired by his
excellent and thought-provoking homilies and moved by his
beautiful singing, especially with the Exsultet at the Easter
Vigil. We look forward to his ordination to the priesthood.
As Deacon Bristol leaves, we will see a familiar
face. Deacon Melchizedek will return on weekends and make
our parish his home prior to his ordination to the priesthood.
You will remember that Deacon Melchizedek was with us
last summer. Both deacons and their Brooklyn classmates
will be ordained on Saturday, June 4th at St. Joseph’s CoCathedral. I am happy to announce that Father Melchizedek
will celebrate his First Mass of Thanksgiving here at Blessed
Virgin Mary, Help of Christians the next day, Sunday June
5th at the 10 am Mass. Please save that date and make an
effort to attend that special Mass. We will have a reception
after the Mass so that you may receive his first priestly blessing. Fr. Bristol will return to our parish to celebrate Mass on
Sunday, June 19th also at the 10 am Mass. That day is
Father’s Day, an appropriate date to celebrate a new priest.
Please pray that both men be good and holy priests.
It seems that our parish does such a good job in
helping in the formation of priests; we are being honored
again with another summer assignment for a seminarian.
Michael Ugbor, from Nigeria and member of my last parish,
has been assigned to us for the summer. Michael arrives on
Saturday, May 14 and will be with us until the end of July.
Michael is currently in third theology, which means, Godwilling, he will be ordained a priest of Jesus Christ next year.
Michael is an intelligent, hard-working and devout young
man who I recommended for the seminary a few months
before I came to St. Mary’s. We look forward to his time
with us. It is my prayer that the presence of these seminarians
in our parish will encourage more local young men to consider the priesthood.

Hoy es el último día que el Diácono Mark Bristol
está oficialmente con nosotros. La asignación para los diáconos en transición termina hoy para que ellos puedan terminar sus estudios y prepararse para su ordenación al sacerdocio. Ha sido un placer tener al Diácono (pronto será Padre) Bristol con nosotros desde noviembre. Yo creo que

de semana y hará de nuestra parroquia su casa antes de su
ordenación al sacerdocio. Se acordarán que el Diácono
Melchizedek estuvo con nosotros el verano pasado. Ambos
Diácono y sus compañeros de Brooklyn serán ordenado el
sábado, 4 de junio en la Co-Catedral de San Jose. Estoy

fecha apropiada para celebrar un nuevo sacerdote. Por favor
oren para que ambos hombres sean sacerdotes buenos y
santos.
Parece que nuestra parroquia hace un buen trabajo
en ayudar en la formación de sacerdotes; estamos honrados
de nuevo con otra asignación en el verano para un seminarista. Michael Ugbor, de Nigeria y miembro de mi última

Catholic Underground
On Saturday, May 7th, Fr. O’Connor will be leading a
group of young people to Catholic Underground located at
Our Lady of Good Counsel, 230 East 90th Street, between
2nd & 3rd Avenue, in Manhattan. We will be leaving
immediately after the 5pm Mass. It begins at 7:30pm
with a Holy Hour led by the Franciscan Friars of the
Renewal. We should be returning to the parish around
11pm. Families are welcome to travel on their own to the
Underground site. Teens and young adults must register
before February 5th to make sure there are enough seats
available. All those under 18 years of age must have a
Permission slip filled out.
SAVE THE DATE FOR OUR UPCOMING BLOOD DRIVE.

evento comienza a las 7:30pm con una Hora Santa dirigida
por los Frailes Franciscanos de la Renovación.
Regresaremos alrededor de las 11pm. Están bienvenidas las
familias a viajar por su cuenta. Jóvenes deben registrarse
antes del 15 de enero para asegurar que hay asiento
