LIFE IN THE TRINITY
LA VIDA EN LA TRINIDAD
The name of the Trinity is, without a doubt, the most familiar sacred name to us. We speak it every time we make the
sign of the cross, and it forms the heart of
our Creed. Trinity Sunday is a good day,
however, to stop and reflect on the unique
role of each of the three persons we name
so often in the Trinity and in our own lives.
When we celebrate the Eucharist on Sunday,
we come together as the Body of Christ
through our baptism, and through the power
of the Holy Spirit we offer the whole prayer
of the Mass to God the Father. This presence
of the Trinity does not stop when we leave
church on Sunday. We are—always and everywhere—members of the Body, and every
thing we do as members of that Body is empowered by the
Holy Spirit, all of it offered to the glory of our loving Father.
El nombre de la Trinidad es, sin duda, el nombre más sagrado
para nosotros: lo mencionamos cada vez que hacemos la Señal de
la Cruz, y constituye el corazón de nuestro Credo. Sin embargo, el Domingo de la Trinidad es
un buen día, para detenernos y reflexionar sobre

Campaign
(www.fatherhoodforever.org) has declared June 2014 as a time of Turning
the Hearts of Fathers to their unborn
children and the good news of God’s
mercy, forgiveness and restoration for
those men who suffer after abortion loss. It’s understandable
that fathers want to avoid this painful event and leave it in the
past…but for many men it is still very much impacting them in
the present.
If you, or someone you know, is in this situation, the Lord
wants to strengthen you (or him) through an abortion recovery
program (Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat: www.rachelsvineyard.org/
weekend/sites.aspx) hosted locally by Reachout Women’s Center for both men and women. Take the next step and discover
the healing in Christ that will truly bless your life. An upcoming
retreat is on 5–7 September 2014.

Some hearing impaired parishioners who use hearing aids have
complained that they aren’t able to hear clearly the prayers,
readings, homily, and announcements in our
church. To remedy this, Mr. Kurt Just offered to
sponsor an Induction Loop System for our church.
Recently, we installed this system which consists of
an amplifier to processes the sound signal from our
microphones and send it through a loop cable
which acts as an antenna radiating the magnetic
signal to the hearing aid. We have looped this cable
around the area with the wooden pews to the left
of the center aisle. Now we are able to provide
hearing impaired parishioners who have a T-coil
equipped hearing aid access to clear audio perception. If you
use a T-coil equipped hearing aid, be sure to “get in the loop”
by sitting in any of the wooden pews to the left of the center
aisle and switch your hearing aid to the T-coil.

han quejado de que no pueden escuchar claramente las oraciones,

Assisting Priests Celebrating Masses
While Carmelites Attend Their Chapter

This week (15–20 June), our Carmelites are away attending
their Provincial Chapter at their spiritual center in Niagara
Falls, Ontario, Canada. While they are away, there will be various assisting priests celebrating our Masses on
Sunday and the weekdays. This Sunday, Fr. Bill
Remmel (former pastor of Most Holy Trinity Parish) will be at the 8:00 and 10:00 AM Masses and
Fr. Ed Pietrucha, CSP will be here for the 1:00 and
7:00 PM Masses. Fr. Ed will be the priest for the
8:00 AM Daily Mass this Monday through Thursday, and Fr. Bob Kose, OFM Cap will be at this
Mass on Friday. Next weekend, Fr. Edgar will be
back for the 5:00 PM Mass on Saturday and the
1:00 and 7:00 PM Masses on Sunday. Fr. Jean-Baptiste Kiwaya, SJ (a Jesuit at the Vatican Observatory on Mt. Graham)
will be at the 8:00 and 10:00 AM Masses.
You may be thinking, “What are the Carmelites doing?” So,
here is an explanation to help you understand a little bit about
the organization and structure of the Carmelites as a Religious
Order. Similar to the way in which our Catholic Church organizes the world into smaller regions called dioceses, Religious
Orders establish specified geographical areas within which its
members serve calling them provinces. A Provincial Chapter is
an official gathering of the community’s members living in the
Province for the specific purpose of making decisions about
their life together and for electing their leadership. The Prior
Provincial is the superior of the members within a Province. (In
some ways he is like the Bishop of a Diocese.) The Vice Prior
Provincial is his assistant, sometimes acting on behalf of the
Prior Provincial as his Vicar. The four Provincial Councilors,
together with the Vice Prior Provincial, make up an advisory
committee with whom the Prior Provincial consults about matters concerning both the members and ministries of the Province. While there are parallels between the Church’s dioceses
with bishops and provinces with provincials, a major difference
is that the members of the Religious Order elect their leaders
and the period of time the leader serves is predetermined (for
the Carmelites, for a term of 3 years after which one may be
reelected to a second term of 3 years, but not for more than 6
years in succession).

Our school finishes year with accolades!
¡Nuestra escuela termina el año con elogios!
The 2013–2014 school year has been a stellar one for your
parish school. St. Cyril School is blessed to be the most diverse
school in the Diocese. This diversity brings such richness to our
school community and allows all of us share in the many gifts
each individual brings. The Holy Spirit certainly is at work each
and every day at St. Cyril School.
Our students have worked hard this past year and earned
many recognitions from oratorical contests to state competitions in spelling, geography and science. Each student has participated in numerous service programs
from creating habitats for zoo animals to selling
baked goods for a father who lost his entire family
in a tragic accident. Academically, they have set
high goals and worked hard to achieve them. The
fruits of the our labors can be seen each day as
students “get it” to those graduating from high
school returning to say they have been successful
because of the foundations they received here at St. Cyril
School. Yes, the Spirit is alive and well!
The past 18 months, the school has been involved in an indepth study as to our areas of achievement and growth. This
study was intensive and resulted in a 110 page summary of St.
Cyril School. The summary was then given to our visiting accreditation team in February. During their visit to the school,
they observed classes, spoke with all shareholders of the
school and developed an overarching report of their findings. I
am thrilled and honored to inform the parishioners of St. Cyril
that “YOUR” school received the highest accreditation status a
school can through the Western Catholic Education Association. We received a full six-year accreditation. Many kudos go
to you, our parishioners, for supporting the school through
various fundraisers and the Catholic Tuition Support Organization (CTSO). The school could not continue forward without
the strong support of the parish family. Along with a heartfelt
thank you to you all, many thanks go to our parents and students for believing in the importance of a well-rounded, faithfilled education. Finally, my sincerest appreciation and gratitude to our faculty and staff, who have given of themselves
each and every day creating a solid foundation for our students’ future. I count my blessing to be a part of this vibrant
school community which creates tomorrow’s leaders through
inspiration and innovation!
As we close up “shop” for the short summer vacation, if you
know of anyone who would be interested in being a part of
this wonderful school community, please feel free to give me a
call or send me an email. We are in and out of the office all
summer long. School will resume on 6 August 2014. Stay safe

El ciclo escolar 2013–2014 ha sido un año estelar para su escuela
parroquial. La Escuela de San Cirilo es bendecida por ser la escuela
más diversa de la Diócesis. Esta diversidad trae muchísima riqueza a
nuestra comunidad escolar y permite que todos compartamos en los
muchos dones que cada individuo trae. El Espíritu Santo está sin
duda trabajando todos los días en la Escuela San Cirilo.
Nuestros estudiantes han trabajado duro este último año y se han
ganado muchos reconocimientos de concursos de oratoria en concursos estatales de ortografía, geografía y ciencias. Cada

familia en un trágico accidente. Académicamente, se han
fijado altas metas y han trabajado duro para lograrlas. Los
frutos de nuestros trabajos se pueden ver cada día como
estudiantes que aprenden y los que se gradúan de la escuela secundaria y vuelven a decirnos que han tenido éxito
debido a las bases que han recibido aquí en la Escuela de San Cirilo.
Sí, el Espíritu está vivo y bien!
Los últimos 18 meses, la escuela ha participado en un estudio a
profundidad sobre nuestras áreas de progreso y crecimiento. Este
estudio fue intensivo y dio lugar a un resumen de 110 páginas sobre
la Escuela de San Cirilo. A continuación, el resumen se le dio a
nuestro equipo de acreditación de visita en febrero. Durante su visita
a la escuela, observaron clases, hablaron con todos los accionistas de
la escuela y desarrollaron un informe general de sus conclusiones.
Estoy muy contenta y honrada de informar a los feligreses de San
Cirilo que “SU” escuela recibió el estatus de máxima acreditación que
una escuela puede tener a través de la Asociación de Educación
Católica Occidental. Recibimos una acreditación completa de seis
años. Muchas felicitaciones van para ustedes, nuestros feligreses, por
apoyar a la escuela a través de diversos eventos para recaudar fondos y de Catholic Tuition Support Organization (CTSO). La escuela no
puede seguir adelante sin el firme apoyo de la familia parroquial.

This year the Solemnity of SS. Peter and Paul falls on a Sunday. As we are in Ordinary Time, this solemnity
takes precedence over the Sunday in Ordinary
Time prayers and readings. In the first reading we
will hear of St. Peter healing a paralytic – continuing the healing ministry of Jesus. This provides us
with a good opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament
of the Anointing of the Sick in a communal setting.
Therefore, on the weekend of 28–29 June, we will
celebrate this sacrament at all of our Masses, and
offer a special blessing for those who share in the
Church’s pastoral care of the sick. This blessing is
intended for health care workers, persons caring for an aging
or sick family member in their home as well as Extraordinary
Ministers of the Eucharist who bring communion to the
homebound and nursing home patients.
In preparing for this celebration, please remember that this
sacrament is intended for those who are:
 experiencing a severe illness (not the short-term bugs, flus,
colds or viruses),
 are preparing to undergo surgery,
 are experiencing serious weakness caused by aging,
 or have a chronic mental illness.
If you are in one of these situations, please be sure to
come to one of the Masses that weekend that our community
may prayer with you as you are anointed with the Oil of the
Infirm. If you know someone who is in one of these situations, offer to accompany them to one of our Sunday Masses
on that weekend.

Como estamos en Tiempo Ordinario, esta solemnidad tiene
prioridad sobre las oraciones y lecturas del Domingo de Tiempo
Ordinario. En la primera lectura escucharemos que San Pedro
cura a un paralítico – continuando el ministerio de curación de
Jesús. Esto nos proporciona una buena oportunidad para celebrar el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos en un entorno

Immigration Crises Happening on Two Fronts in Our Area
Local news agencies have been communicating about the large number of unaccompanied minors who have
crossed into the US being sent to a former detention center/warehouse in Nogales. At the same time, but with
less news coverage, a large number of women and children, who have been processed in Texas and are en route
to family members in other cities in the US via Greyhound Bus Lines arrive at the Tucson and Phoenix bus stations
where they are to make a transfer to another bus, but without any assistance whatsoever.
Folks from Casa Mariposa have been reaching out to these women and children to
help them contact their relatives, provide diapers, food, child care, etc., so they can successfully continue their
journey. Most of these women have little money and no supplies to take care of their children. Given the volume of people involved, Casa Mariposa is working to coordinate relief responses from various agencies and
communities in the Tucson area. They really need volunteers who speak Spanish to help out at the bus station
and other English speakers who can help to organize supplies, etc. Generally, the women and children arrive in
the late afternoon and early evening so that’s when most of the volunteers are needed.

Interfaith Prayer Service for healing and comfort
In a 22 May news clip, the Arizona Daily Star reported the following:
Faustino Solis Garcia, 23, was found dead from gunshot wounds at about 7:15 a.m. by a person walking in the area, said Officer Brandon
Tatum, a Tucson Police Department spokesman. Garcia was lying in the doorway of a mobile home at a trailer park in the 4500 block of East
Fairmount Street southwest of the East Pima Street and North Swan Road intersection. When officers arrived they also found a woman,
Kassandra Medina, 20, shot to death in the home, Tatum said. Their infant daughter was found in the home unharmed.
This tragic incident has had an unsettling impact on members of the Garden District Neighborhood and
the Martha Cooper Branch Library community just one block away from the home.
In response to this, a member of the neighborhood is organizing an Interfaith Prayer Service to be held at
8:00 AM, Saturday, 28 June on the grounds of the Martha Cooper Library – on the north side of the library
“in the shade.” All are invited to join in this gathering along with Garden District Neighborhood residents.

El 22 de Mayo, en un clip de noticias, el periódico Arizona Daily Star informó que:

tendido en la puerta de una casa móvil ubicada en un parque de casas rodantes en el bloque 4500 de East Fairmount Street al suroeste de la intersección de East Pima Street y North Swan Road. Al llegar los agentes al lugar encontraron a una mujer, Kassandra Medina, 20, también muerta a
tiros en la misma casa móvil, dijo Tatum. Su hija pequeña fue encontrada sana y salva.

A matter of concern
Rev. Richard L. Zamorano has been named in a recent lawsuit filed by Jose E. Garcia, an adult who is a former parishioner of St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish.
Fr. Rick (as he was known by parishioners) was not an employee of the parish, but a priest who assisted with
sacramental celebrations in the parish over a period of several years. During his time of service, there was no
evidence, nor suspicion, of inappropriate behavior. With the initial report of allegations made to the diocese,
Fr. Rick was removed from all ministries bringing a close to his service at the parish. The matter at hand was
handled at the diocesan level.
With the advent of this law suit, Bishop Kicanas published the following statement in his Monday Memo this
past week.
It has been the policy of the Diocese of Tucson to be transparent and forthright in responding to
allegations against those working in the Diocese. In keeping with that policy I want to inform you
of the following:
The Diocese of Tucson has been made aware of a lawsuit recently filed by Jose Garcia, in which he
alleges abuse by Father Richard Zamorano, a priest of the Diocese of El Paso who worked in the
Diocese of Tucson.
The lawsuit, names Zamorano, the Diocese of Tucson and the Diocese of El Paso as defendants. It alleges
wrongdoing by Father Zamorano upon Garcia, a man described by the lawsuit as a vulnerable adult at the time of
the alleged 2012 incident. The lawsuit accuses both dioceses of failing to protect Garcia or others from Zamorano.
The Diocese of Tucson sees the lawsuit’s allegations against the diocese as seriously flawed and without substance.
The lawsuit alleges that Father Zamorano sexually abused Garcia in June 2012. Garcia reported that incident to
the Diocese of Tucson, which immediately reported Garcia’s allegations to civil authorities. On June 24, 2012,
Zamorano was suspended from all priestly ministries from both dioceses pending the outcome of the civil authorities’ investigation. After completion of the investigation, the authorities closed the case with no further action.
At no time since the allegations were made have Father Zamorano’s faculties for priestly ministry been reinstated by either diocese.
Father Zamorano was ordained to the priesthood in May 1993 for the Diocese of El Paso. At some point in time,
Father Zamorano legally adopted two boys in direct violation of instruction from then Bishop Armando X. Ochoa,
and was put on a one year personal leave in July 2002. Zamorano voluntarily agreed not to exercise priestly ministry during the leave.
Father Zamorano then relocated to the Diocese of Tucson where his mother lives, and found employment as a
teacher at Salpointe Catholic High School.
In 2003, after receiving permission from Bishop Ochoa, Bishop Kicanas accepted Zamorano for service in Tucson.
It was only in 2012 that the Diocese of Tucson became aware of Garcia’s allegations, and it followed diocesan
safety measures immediately.
Neither diocese was aware of any other alleged sexual misconduct by Zamorano at any time prior to the reported
allegation.
Due to the current legal matter, the parish will not comment further,
and asks parishioners to keep all parties in prayer for healing and reconciliation.

García, en la cual alega abuso cometido por el Padre Richard Zamorano, un sacerdote de la Diócesis de El Paso que trabajó en la Diócesis de Tucson.
En la demanda, que nombra a Zamorano, la Diócesis de Tucson y la Diócesis de El Paso como partes demandadas,
se alega una ofensa cometida por el Padre Zamorano en perjuicio de García, un hombre que según la descripción
presentada en la demanda era un adulto vulnerable cuando ocurrió el presunto incidente en el año 2012. La demanda acusa a ambas diócesis de haber fallado en proteger a García, o a otras personas, de Zamorano.
La Diócesis de Tucson considera que las acusaciones presentadas contra la Diócesis en esta demanda son gravemente erróneas y carentes de fundamento.
La demanda alega que el Padre Zamorano abusó sexualmente de García en el año 2012. García reportó el incidente a la Diócesis de Tucson, quien inmediatamente informó a las autoridades civiles de las acusaciones de García.

La Diócesis de Tucson no se enteró de las acusaciones de García hasta 2012, y de inmediato se adoptaron las
medidas de seguridad diocesanas pertinentes.
En ningún momento previo al incidente alguna de las dos diócesis tuvo conocimiento de ninguna otra acusación
de conducta sexual indebida por parte de Zamorano.
Debido a la situacion legal actual, la parroquia no hara más comentarios, y pide a los feligreses
mantener en sus oraciones a todas las partes involucradas para alcanzar la sanación y la reconciliación.
