My dear parishioners,
RECONCILIATION / RECONCILIACIÓN
You may have no ced that our church has a “new” tabernacle (it is actually 100
years old). This beau ful piece of art was given to us for a $2,000 dona on and will
be the permanent repository place for our Lord a er each Mass. It will soon be
sent to be properly restored.
Historic Chapel / Capilla Histórica
Thursday........................ 7:00-9:00 pm (English/Español)
Our original tabernacle was too small to accommodate the Eucharist and the
ciborium when placed inside. When I first became aware of the prac cal
limita ons, and a er having been encouraged by our Finance Council, clergy
members and many dear parishioners, an opportunity arose for St. Rose to acquire
a beau ful tabernacle at no great cost and to be er serve the needs of our
growing parish family.
Why is a tabernacle so important for any Catholic Church? The tabernacle is a
“liturgical furnishing” used to safely house the Eucharist outside of Mass, where it
can be kept for distribu on to the sick, for prayer and adora on, and to also help
prevent the abuse of the Eucharist. The Universal Law of the Church requires: “The
tabernacle in which the Eucharist is regularly reserved is to be immovable, made of
solid or opaque material, and locked so that the danger of [abuse] may be en rely
avoided.” (Code of Canon Law, #938 §3).
The word tabernacle means “dwelling place.” Any place someone dwells is a
tabernacle, as is a temporary dwelling place. Thus the tent-like sanctuary that the
Jews used before the Temple of Jerusalem was built was called the “Tabernacle,”
because God dwelt there. The tabernacle in Church is so named because it is a
place where Christ permanently dwells in the Eucharist so that we can reach Him
in His sacramental presence any me we wish or need to do so.
The tabernacle is also a focal point for our personal encounter with the Lord so
authen cally present in our midst. During Eucharis c prayer, we “watch and wait”,
we remain “silent and listen” in His Real Presence as we open ourselves to His
abundant Graces. By worshiping the Eucharis c Jesus, we become what God wants
us to be. Why? Because we allow the Lord to draw us to Himself and gently
transform us into what we can be. It is during Eucharis c prayer and Adora on
that God and we “reach out for each other at the same me” for, as promised, He
remains present for us un l the end of me (Jn. 14:18).
Our original tabernacle will be honorably placed in the sacristy. It will be used on
special occasions such as the Reposi on of the Eucharist a er the Holy Thursday's
Liturgy un l the Easter Vigil, for the overflow Masses held in our Parish Center...
I hope that whenever we see our new tabernacle,
it will help us both to recognize the real presence
of the Lord and to lovingly greet Him. May God
and the Holy Mother always bless you.

A Blessing for Graduates
Eternal God,
in you we live, and move, and have our being.
In your will we find our purpose,
and in your wisdom we find our joy.
Bless these graduates
who have completed a course of study
and now begin a new part of their lives.
Let them not be troubled about the past
nor anxious about the future,
but let them be concerned about
the moment they must now live.
Strengthen their faith and ease their fears
that they may courageously follow your Spirit
and live fully the life you give them.
When doubt and confusion
about their purpose surround them,
light their way and give them peace in your plan for them.
Let them use the gi s they have received in their studies
that they may become a source of inspira on
and blessing for the world.
And when each day is ended,
give them delight in knowing
that the good work you have begun in them
shall come to comple on in you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
