Castro Valley's Village Bowl. Drop off your kid(s) with the
principal and her army of chaperones and get ready to enjoy an
afternoon off.
Kids will bowl two games and then take a short walking field trip
to Rita's Italian Ice where they will receive a $5 gift card to
customize a tasty treat of Italian ice, old-fashioned custard or a
decadent combination of the two! Don't miss out! This is limited
to the first 10 kids signed up for the bargain basement price of
$50!!

Ein Prosit De Germutlichkeit! The location may have changed,
but the spirit lives on. Don your best Dirndl or Lederhosen and
come join us at the Reichert Creekside Biergarten for a toast to
cheer and good times! There'll be icy cold German bier and
wine to wash down the pretzels, warm potato salad, bratwurst
and sauerkraut. Oans Zwoa Drei! G'Suffa! (Costumes not

Holiday Sweets - Cookie & Candy Making
Date: Sun., Dec. 2015 TBD Cost: $40 Kid
Children will get to make and sample a variety of candies as well
as decorate cookies. Each Child will take home with them with a
special personalized cooking goodie bag. Cocoa and assorted
beverages will be served for both the children and adults. Max is
10 kids + one adult per child (20 people max). Sunday afternoon
in December, date/time tbd.

PTA Meeting Notes
Teacher’s Report
o Mr. Fishbaugh says that we have a new chromebook
cart. At about a 2 to 1 ratio.
Principal’s Report
o STAR Rennaissance test scores will be sent home
(grades 1-5). Will be tested again in January. (K-6)
o
SBAC scores are out. Scores will come soon. Preview
showed that Roosevelt outperformed other schools in
district. But, there is still a racial and sociio-economic
gap here and in state.
o
Walkathon – in 2 weeks. Total bill is something like
$30,000. 4th graders asked to raise about $80 and 5th
graders about $250.00. This year 3rd grade will also do
walkathon as a Pay it Forward Opportunity.
o
Yearbook – Jenny Larson needs a co-editor. She would
like to put something in the newsletter about getting
help with specific things (5th grade baby pictures, help
with collecting pictures from events)
Fundraising
o We are about to wrap up our first fundraiser Schoola.
Have about 7 boxes so far. Has been a very successful
and easy fundraiser. Made over $1700 last year with 2
drives. Will start gift wrap fundraiser starting this week
to Sept. 30. 25% of 4th and 5th grade sales raised will
go to Outdoor Ed.
o A parent would like to look into a fundraiser to help
buy workbooks so help kids and parents with math
(specifically Common Core). Jamie has already
discussed with Soraya to help find someone to help
come in and help parents understand. There has also
been discussion of a math lab similar to reading
academy. There is a need to help parents so that they
can help their students. There will be a note in the next
newsletter how to help your kid with math (go to
EngageNY to see actual lessons)

This year all fundraisers are crucial to Roosevelt if we want to be able to continue some of our fantastic (and necessary) programs like assemblies, field trips, and Parent Education. Greetings!
Roosevelt Elementary School is gearing up for its 2015 Fall Festival. This annual event is a very
special opportunity for school families and members of the community to come together for a fun
afternoon. In addition to providing a day of carnival games and activities, this year’s event will provide
families and staff opportunities to connect with our community and each other in creative and meaningful
ways. The festival will take place on the school grounds from 11:00 AM to 4:00 P M on
Saturday, O ctober 17, 2015. The average attendance of the festival is approximately 1,000
students, parents, and community members.
Please consider helping to support the festival by making a donation to help make the festival
affordable for all in our community. So that all Roosevelt students may attend, we offer each Roosevelt
students a Fun Pack, which includes a free lunch and game tickets. This year’s Festival Theme is
“R oosevelt H ornetcraft: B uild Your Future !”, so come join us at this wonderful event.

Booth sizes are a maximum of 10 ft x 10 ft. The fee for each space is a minimum contribution of $35.00
payable to Roosevelt PTA and a donation of your product to the raffle area. We allow two hours before
the festival to set up and one hour after the festival to clean up. All vendors are required to provide their
own table, chairs, canopies and other supplies. Vendors are also responsible for having permits and/or

Animal Lover’s: This class is for the true animal lover! Have you ever thought the ACE club needed a mascot? This class will
have the opportunity to vote on, name and observe how to care for a live animal mascot! You will also learn about different types
of animals plus create original “animal art”. We’ll have fun snacks plus “Live Animal Guests!” Taught by Ms. Nicole! Grades K3, Limit 16
Ballet Folklorico: Please welcome back the Ballet Folklorico Dance studio to teach this popular and fun class. The class is
designed to expose students to Mexican Folkloric Dance and to the history and traditions related to such dance form. This
program will teach the basic fundamentals of the Folklorico dance. The performance aspect of Folklorico will be highly
emphasized. This program has been successful teaching the importance of teamwork and in building self-confidence for boys
and girls! This class will perform at the ACE Winter Program Thursday, December 10th. Grades 1-5, Limit 12
Cooking & Culture Classes at Roosevelt: Cooking Round the World: Italian creamy pesto with broccoli; Israeli potato,
carrot & zucchini latkes w/warm apple sauce; Mexican tortilla soup; Canadian butternut squash and maple mac &
cheese... Cooking Round the World gives students the opportunity to learn about countries ‘round the world by cooking . and
eating! By combining cultural education and culinary arts children learn cooking skills while experiencing a country’s culinary flavors.
Cooking is 100% hands on. Everyone dices, juices, chops, sautés and participates. After cooking we eat as a group and discuss
how the flavors are indicative of the country of the day. The outcome is an appreciation of food and desire to become a citizen of
the world! Cooking Round the World is a nut free program. There are no tree nuts or peanuts in any recipe. If your child has
other food allergies, please let us know. (To note: Safety is a priority.) 2 Classes by Grade: Grades Kindergarten, Limit 12;
Grades 1st – 5th, Limit 12
Ceramic Arts: Roosevelt Welcomes back “Aran’s Art Studio” from Castro Valley, an exciting and popular veteran to the ACE
Program. Projects will include: Clay, Tiles and Glass Fusing. Class fees include all materials and all projects will be glazed and
fired at the studio. Just imagine how much Mom, Dad, Grandparents or any loved one will truly enjoy hand-crafted pieces of art.

Cupcake Wars: Come join Ms. Nicole for this fun cooking class! Every week will feature a different flavor and theme, based upon
student votes! You’ll learn some fun frosting and decorating techniques. Both savory and sweet cupcakes will be featured! Please
note: This is primarily a “sweet” based cooking class using a variety of ingredients, i.e. chocolate, eggs, milk, etc., that will allow
students to learn both cooking and baking techniques. Grades 2-5, Limit 12
Duct Tape Designs: Have you seen the latest designer duct tapes on the market? Animal print, Pokemon, Hello Kitty, sports &
much, much more! Learn how to make a one of a kind wallet, water bottle holder, earrings, pencil pouch or all of the above using
these fabulous materials in all patterns and colors. Students will have the opportunity to make these items plus many, many more!
2 classes: Grades K – 5, Limit 12/class
Hip Hop Dance!: Join Roosevelt parent Sonny <LAST NAME> as he teaches the kids how fitness can be fun when dancing to
Hip Hop and R&B tunes! Dance has been successful in teaching the importance of teamwork and in building self-confidence for
boys and girls! This class will perform at the ACE Winter Program Thursday, December 10th 2 Classes by Grade: Grades K –
3rd , Limit 10; Grades 1st – 5th, Limit 10
Junior Acers: This multi-topic ACE class targets K & 1st Grade students. We will alternate weeks with age appropriate cooking,
art, K’NEX and science projects. This is a great intro to the ACE program! Ms. Nicole provides students with variety while
ensuring they learn to work & create in a group setting while being comfortable with children their own age. Grades K-1, Limit 12
K’NEX: Boys and girls of all ages have great fun in this club! Learn to create incredible machines, vehicles, creatures and
anything else you can imagine. Race your vehicles down the racetrack. Using the K’NEX system of rods and connectors, you
can design machines with the use of gears, pulleys, wheels, and levers. Grades K-5, Limit 18
Knitting: We are excited to have Roosevelt’s beloved noon supervisor Mrs. Smith, a “Knitting Guru”, teach this amazing club.
Learn the basics of knitting to make simple projects, such as a scarf, potholder, belt, etc. This class is for boys or girls and once
you learn to knit, it’s like riding a bike, you never forget! Grades 3-5, Limit 10
Mystery Mondays: This class will feature a different mystery for the detectives, aka students, to solve each & every week. We
will also learn how professionals solve mysteries, including forensic & law enforcement techniques. Grades 2 – 5, Limit 12.
Songbirds: Back from a successful tour in Cincinnati, local musician, and Roosevelt Parent Alumni, Gloria Amaral, returns to lead
Roosevelt Songbirds in another fall season of great music. Songbird’s focus having fun singing in a positive and nurturing
environment. We will incorporate movement while singing. We will focus on breath control; learn easy harmony all the while
learning fun songs. The Songbirds will perform at the ACE Winter Program, Thursday, December 10th. Grades 2-5, Limit 12

Amante de los animales: ¡Esta clase es para los verdaderos amantes de los animales! ¿Alguna vez has pensado que el
Club de ACE necesita una mascot? Esta clase tendra la oportunidad de votar por una masco, nombrarla y aprender como
cuidar una mascot! Tambien aprenderás acerca de los diferentes tipos de animals, además haremos arte “de animales”.
Tendremos bocadillos divertidos más "¡Animales Vivos de Invitados!" ¡la clase la dará la Sra. Nicole Grados K-3, límite

Ballet Folklórico: Démosle la bienvenida al Estudio de Danza de Ballet Folklórico para enseñar esta nueva clase divertida.
Esta clase está diseñada para exponer a los estudiantes a la Danza Folklórica Mexicana, la historia y las tradiciones
relacionadas con dicha forma de danza. Este programa le enseñará los fundamentos básicos de la danza Folklórico. El aspecto
del funcionamiento de Folklorico será muy enfatizada. Este programa ha tenido éxito la enseñanza de la importancia del
trabajo en equipo y en la construcción de confianza en sí mismos para niños y niñas! Esta clase se presentará en el
Programa de Invierno-ACE, el jueves, 10 de diciembre. Grados 1-5 Límite 12
Clase de Cocina & Cultura en Roosevelt: Cocinar la Vuelta al Mundo: pesto cremosa italiana con brócoli; Patata
israelí, zanahoria y calabacín latkes c / salsa de manzana caliente; Sopa de tortilla mexicana; Calabaza butternut y el arce
canadiense y queso de mac ... Cocinar Vuelta al Mundo da a los estudiantes la oportunidad de aprender sobre los países
'alrededor del mundo por cocinar .... ¡y comer! Al combinar la educación cultural y las artes culinarias niños aprenden
habilidades en la cocina, mientras que experimentan sabores culinarios de un país. Cocinar es 100% manual. Todo el mundo
a cortar en rodajas, sacar el jugo,, picar, sofreir y a participar. Después de cocinar, comeremos en grupo y discutir cómo los
sabores son indicativos de país del día. El resultado es una apreciación de los alimentos y el deseo de convertirse en un
ciudadano del mundo! Cocinar la Vuelta al Mundo es un programa que no usara nueces. No hay nueces o cacahuetes en
cualquier receta. Si su hijo tiene otras alergias alimentarias, por favor háganoslo saber. (Tomar nota: La seguridad es una
prioridad.) 2 clases por grado: Grados del Kindergarten, Límite 12; Grados 1ro a 5to, Límite 12
Artes Cerámica: Roosevelt da la bienvenida a "Estudio de Arte de Aran" de Castro Valley, una interesante adición al
Programa ACE. Los proyectos incluirán: Clay, Azulejos y vidrio Fusing. Honorarios de las clases incluyen todos los materiales y
todos los proyectos serán vidriada y cocida en el estudio. Imagínense cuánto mamá, papá, abuelos o cualquier ser querido
realmente va a disfrutar de las piezas de arte hechas a mano. Grados 2-5, límite 12
Guerras de Pastelitos: Ven y únete a la señora Nicole para esta clase de cocina divertida! Cada semana contará con un
sabor y una temática diferente, basado en los votos de los estudiantes! Vas a aprender algunas técnicas de glaseado y
decoración divertidas. Tanto pastelitos salados como dulces serán presentados! Nota: Este es principalmente una clase de
cocina a base de “dulce” usando una variedad de ingredientes, es decir, el chocolate, los huevos, la leche, etc., que permitirá
a los estudiantes a aprender tanto técnicas para cocinar y hornear. Grados 2-5, Límite 12
Diseños de la cinta adhesiva: ¿Usted ha visto los últimos diseños de cintas de conducto en el mercado? El estampado
de animales, Pokemon, Hello Kitty, deportes y mucho, mucho más! Aprende a hacer una parte de una billetera, titular la
botella de agua, pendientes, bolsa de lápiz o todo lo anterior el uso de estos materiales fabulosos en todos los modelos y
colores. Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de hacer estos artículos, además de muchos, muchos más! 2 clases: Grados K
- 5, Límite 12 / clase
Hip Hop Danza !: Únete al papa de Roosevelt, Sonny <APELLIDO> mientras le enseña a los niños cómo la aptitud puede
ser divertido al bailar al Hip Hop y R&B! La danza ha tenido éxito en la enseñanza de la importancia del trabajo en equipo y en
la construcción de confianza en sí mismo para niños y niñas! Esta clase se presentará en el Programa de Invierno ACE Jueves,
10 de diciembre de 2 clases por grado: Grados K -3º, Límite 10; Grados 1ro - 5to, Límite 10
Júnior Acers: Esta clase ACE multi-tema se dirige a estudiantes de Kinder y 1er grado. Alternaremos semana con proyectos,
de cocina, arte, K’NEX, y ciencias apropiados a la edad. Esta es una gran introducción al programa ACE! Mrs. Nicole
proporcionará a los estudiantes con una variedad, garantizando que los jóvenes aprenden a trabajar y crear en un ambiente
de grupo, al mismo tiempo que esten a gusto con los niños de su misma edad. Grados K-1, límite 12
K'NEX: ¡Niños y niñas de todas las edades tienen una gran diversión en este club! Aprende a crear increíbles máquinas,
vehículos, criaturas y cualquier otra cosa que puedas imaginar. Has carreras cons tus vehículos en la pista de carreras.
Usando el sistema K'NEX de varillas y conectores, se puede diseñar máquinas con el uso de engranajes, poleas, ruedas y
palancas. Grados K-5, límite 16
Tejido: Estamos muy contentos de tener a el querido supervisor del mediodía de Roosevelt Sra. Smith, un "Knitting Guru",
enseñar este increíble club. Aprenda lo básico del tejido para realizar proyectos simples, como una bufanda, potholder,
cinturón, etc. ¡Esta clase es para niños o niñas y una vez que aprender a tejer, es como andar en bicicleta, nunca se olvida!
Grados 3ro-5to, límite 10
lunes de Misterio: Esta clase contará con un misterio diferente para los detectives, también conocido como los estudiantes,
para resolver cada uno y cada semana. También aprenderemos cómo los profesionales resuelven misterios, incluyendo las
técnicas forenses y policiales. Grados 2 - 5, Límite 12.
Los pájaros cantores: De regreso de un exitoso tour en Cincinnati, músico local, y padre Alumni de Roosevelt, Gloria
Amaral, vuelve a dirijir con gran música a los Pájaros Cantores de Roosevelt en otra estación de invierno. El enfoque de los
pájaros cantores es divertirse cantando en un ambiente positivo y enriquecedor. Incorporaremos movimiento mientras
cantan. Nos centraremos en el entrenamiento del oído (aprender a cantar en el tono), control de la respiración; aprender
armonías fáciles mientras aprendes canciones divertidas. Los pájaros cantores se presentarán en el Programa de Invierno
de ACE el 10 de diciembre. Grados 2do-5to, límite 12
