First of all, thank you ever so much for last week’s many well-wishes on the 20th Anniversary of my Ordination to the Priesthood. There’s a lot to be thankful for, and the parishioners of St. Lawrence are at the top of my list. Speaking of Ordinations, Carlos Cifuentes and Gerardo Ceballos, each of whom had stints of time at St. Lawrence, have chosen our parish as the site of their First Masses of Thanksgiving right after their Ordination to Priesthood. That will be very exciting for us on June 25 & 26; it is an honor, really. I hope you might be able to make a special effort to be here for the Masses and Receptions. More immediately, however, there are two things happening now. Next weekend, (beside the fact that it is Father’s Day) I will be asking for your input on the selection of new Pastoral Council Members. At all the Masses, right after the homily, cards will be passed out for you to write up to 3 names of persons you think will be able to assist me well in monitoring and invigorating the pastoral mission of our parish community. Second, this weekend we are introducing our Fall parish revival opportunity. It is called ARISE; it’s a total parish experience designed to spiritually renew us while providing opportunities to grow in faith. It is a way to move into the future as a Church of hope. I look forward to you seeing this as a pure gift – and opportunity to embrace a time of grace. The reasons to participate in “ARISE Together in Christ” including: • To know God better We learn more about God, talk more freely about our faith, and hear how God has impacted other peoples’ lives. • To grow spiritually We see more clearly how the Holy Spirit has touched our lives and we become more willing to ask for the Spirit’s guidance. • To meet new people Praying and reading the Bible with others brings people closer. New relationships are formed and deepened. • To talk about God Society and daily pressures offer little opportunity for us to pause and reflection our spiritual life. Small communities provide the time and support for reflection. • To improve ourselves Wherever we are in our relationships with Christ, there is always room for improvement. Being in a small community offers this opportunity. • To put faith into action Baptism calls us to reach out to others, to help improve the quality of life for all. Small communities assist us in identifying ways to respond to others’ needs. These communities support outreach. • To change the way we see the world Small communities enable us to view the world and all in it with the eyes of Christ. This leads us to become more attuned to the needs and problems of others. • To improve relationships Being in a small community infuses our relationships with more understanding, tolerance, patience, and love. I look forward to growing in faith with you! Much Peace to you this week! An Invitation RECEPTIONS CELEBRATING NEWLY ORDAINED Saturday, June 25 ~ between 5pm & 7pm Masses ~ Fr. A Perfect Time to Create a Lead Trust: The federal rate is very low right now, making it a great time to set up a Lead Trust. A Lead Trust will provide gifts to charity for a fixed number of years beginning now, and then, at the end of the term of years, the remainder of the trust will pass to your children or grandchildren. You can name your parish endowment fund as the charitable beneficiary of the trust for the years it is in effect. Please contact Juliet Greco at The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia: [email protected] or 404-497-9440. Father’s Day Novena: Father John and Father Rey will celebrate a novena of Masses for the intentions of our fathers, living and deceased, beginning Sunday, June 19. St. Lawrence continues to be blessed by your continued generosity. Our year to date offertory is now 5.6% over budget and $83,000 more than the same period last year. We can finish this year and start next year very strong by keeping up our weekly contributions through the summer months. The best way to do that is doing what many of your fellow parishioners have done: sign up for online giving. Join them so you don’t have to worry about missed offertories while travelling. This year has seen an increased enrollment in our Religious Education and Preschool programs. Our Preschool program has undergone some significant changes this year which has resulted in increased enrollment. You can find lots of information about these programs and enroll your children for next year on the parish website: http://www.saintlaw.org. Debt reduction collections this quarter totaled $39,449, which shortened the mortgage by another 2.5 months. If debt reduction collection continues to bring in $19,000 a month, which is the average this year, we can have the mortgage paid off in four years. Our refund from the Archdiocese for pledge payments exceeding last year’s Annual Appeal target was $9,000 more than last year’s refund. We are happy to report that pledges and payments for this year’s campaign are looking very good. Thank you for your generous support of the Annual Appeal. You have really helped both the Archdiocese and St. Lawrence Church. If you have any problems regarding pledge payments or would like to make a pledge and contribute to this year’s Appeal, please call Janet Volion in the parish office. It is not too late to start. Overall, expenses are tracking close to budget. Religious Education is under budget largely due to deferred expenses. Preschool is over budget for both revenues and expenses, reflecting higher enrollment. The debt reduction collection has saved us $30,178 so far this year in mortgage interest. Facilities is over budget due to the column repairs in the Church. We do have some significant maintenance expenses that need addressing before the end of the year. Maintaining your offertory giving will help us to avoid tapping into the capital reserves to cover these. Again, thank you for your support of St. Lawrence Church. If you have any questions, please let me know.
