FROM THE PASTOR’S HAND
Greetings in the Risen Lord!
While many of you are away on travels this holiday weekend, and will
not have a copy of this bulletin in hand, you are able to see it on our parish
website, and even access it through our parish’s Facebook Page. Which reminds me to ask, have you “liked” St. Lawrence on Facebook yet? It is a great
way to stay abreast of all that is happening in your busy parish - especially as
the Autumn fast approaches.
A special “Thank You” to Richard Duello, Marianne VanName, Kelly
Schreckenberger, Victor Juarez, Maribel Rodriguez, Mario Alejos, and Erenda
Alejos for speaking at all the Masses last weekend about the ARISE program
we will begin at St. Lawrence in October. I personally invite each and every
parishioner to accept this timely opportunity to grow closer to Him Whom we
serve! Again, see the bulletin, parish website and Facebook page for more
information!
Two other things come to mind as I feverishly try to beat the deadline
for this bulletin to print! The first is an invitation to prayerfully rejoice with
me and the entire Church Universal, at the Canonization of Mother Teresa of
Calcutta today! What a marvelous example she was as a Disciple of Christ,
laboring in the vineyard where the poorest of the poor needed her and the
band of Sisters she gathered - some of whom continue to work right here in
Atlanta, running a house to care for homeless women with HIV/AIDS. I’ve
celebrated Mass several times with the sisters and residents there, and I never
cease to be moved by the compassion of St. Teresa of Calcutta that inspires
their labors.
The second is to wish you a blessed Labor Day weekend. Try to remember to give thanks to God for all the abilities, gifts, talents and opportunities He created you with, remembering to keep Him at the center of your job
and other labors! As Psalm 127 says: “Unless the Lord builds the house, they
labor in vain who build. Unless the Lord guards the city, in vain does the guard
keep watch. It is vain for you to rise early and put off your rest at night, to eat
bread earned by hard toil...for it is God who gives these things to His beloved.”

time 7:00 p.m. They will be reading
and discussing the upcoming Sunday
readings. This is a great way to meet
other men in the parish as well as be
better prepared to hear and respond
to the dynamic Word of God on Sunday. Just show up and ask for Mike or
contact him at [email protected]. You will be glad you
went.
The Joy of the Gospel” An overview
of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation will be the topic of discussion on

A Return to the Shire: Finding Frodo in Laudato Si'. In Pope Francis's
encyclical, Laudato Si', he illustrates
humanity's need to protect the environment and care for the poor. J.R.R.
Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings also
shows what a lack of care for the environment can do. In this class, Caroline Black will be examining the similarities in the two, and what we ourselves can do to be better stewards
of our common home. Join her on
Sunday, September 25 at 6:15 p.m.
Youth Art Contest Youth in grades
4th through 8th are invited to submit artwork for the cover of a parish
greeting card. Submit work to Diane
Maguire no later than October 15 for
consideration by a panel of judges.

Year of Mercy.”

My Faith, Your Faith: The Gift of
Religious Diversity This special evening will offer the unique opportunity to learn how a Jew, Muslim,
Hindu and Buddhist understands and
lives their faith and how interfaith
friendship has enriched their
lives. There will be ample time for
Q&A and conversation. All are welcome! September 18 at 6:15 p.m.
