Baptism: First Sunday of the month (English); second and fourth
Sundays of the month (Spanish). Attendance at a Baptism Workshop
is mandatory for both parents and godparents prior to the sacrament.
At least one godparent must be a fully initiated Catholic, age sixteen
or older and, if a member of another parish, must present a certificate
of sponsorship.

Marriage: The new policy of the Diocese of Allentown requires that
the diocesan marriage preparation classes be completed six months
prior to the wedding date. Therefore, to start the process, couples
should contact the Parish House immediately after engagement. At
the first meeting with a parish priest, the wedding date can be
placed on the calendar.

Thoughts of the Pastor
Pensamientos del Pastor
Dear Parishioners,
Some of you have noted that our beautiful
mosaic crucifix located above the tabernacle on the
main altar was missing for a couple of weeks. In
fact, along with a painting that had been hanging in
our choir loft, it formed part of a display recently
presented at Alvernia University of local religious
art.
In 1903, about half-way through the
rebuilding of our church, Father James E. Cleary-the pastor at the time and who conceived of the
church's expansion--traveled to Rome to make a
connection between the Basilica of St. Peter in the
Eternal City and our parish of St. Peter the Apostle.
Besides saying a prayer here and there during his
journeys he did this by securing various objects
from Italy and placing them in the new house of
worship.
The crucifix with ivory corpus was one of
them. Handcrafted in the Vatican art workshops,
Father Cleary had it placed on the beautiful Carrara
marble main altar. Depicted in mosaics are images
of five basilicas in Rome as well as the Forum and
Coliseum.
The painting, Head of the Virgin, is
attributed to the seventeenth century Italian artist,
Giovanni Battista Salvi, commonly known as
Sassoferrato, the town of his birth. (Sassoferrato's
most acclaimed work is his famous Virgin Mary
that hangs in the National Gallery in London.)
Since it is virtually impossible to view our piece up
close where it had been mounted, I am actually
considering not placing it back on the wall in the
choir but rather finding another place to display it.
It's a matter of balancing what the parish's twentyfirst pastor did and what its thirty-second pastor has
banging around in his head.
Jaws drop when people come into our
church for the first time. We, who have the
privilege of worshiping in this edifice every week,
often take it for granted. Let's do our best to be
good stewards-there's that word again--so that
generations to come can also call St. Peter their
home.

Como muchos de ustedes han podido ver el
crucifijo mosaico que se encuentra arriba del
tabernáculo en el altar, ha faltado por un par de
semanas. Junto con un cuadro que estaba en el
altillo del coro, que formo parte de una exhibición
de piezas de arte religioso presentado por la
Universidad de Alvernia.
En 1903, a media construcción de nuestra
iglesia, el Padre James E. Cleary—el pastor en ese
tiempo quien concibió la expansión de nuestra
iglesia—hizo un viaje a Roma hacer una conexión

que se pusiera en nuestro hermoso altar de mármol,
Carrara. En la muestra de los mosaicos se ven
imágenes de cinco basílicas en Roma, el Foro y el
Coliseo.
El cuadro, La Cabeza de la Virgen, fue atribuido al
artista Italiano del siglo diecisiete, Giovanni Battista
Salvi, conocido como Sassoferrato, el nombre de su
pueblo natal. (Uno de sus trabajos más conocidos,
fue su famosa Virgen María, colgada en la galería
Nacional en Londres.) Ya que es casi imposible
admirar nuestra pieza de donde estuvo colocada, no
pienso regresarla a esa ubicación si no buscar donde
mejor se pueda exhibir. Es cuestión de balancear lo
que hizo el XXI pastor de la parroquia a lo que trae
en mente el XXXII pastor.
Personas que entran por nuestras puertas por
primera vez quedan asombradas. Nosotros, que
tenemos el privilegio de adorar en este edificio cada
semana en veces lo tomamos por descontado.
Hagamos lo mejor posible para ser buenos
mayordomos- vean como nos aparece esa palabra de
nuevo—para que las generaciones por venir, puedan
también, llamar la Parroquia San Pedro, su hogar.

Closing Mass for CCD is May 6, 2014 at 6:30 PM in
the Church.
Religious Education: We are accepting new registrations
for Religious Education CCD) for the 2014-2015 school
year. If your child is in first grade or older, please register
them for Religious Education. The fee is $50.00 for the first
child and $10.00 for each additional child in the family.
Remember that to receive Religious Education here at St.
Peter's the parents must be registered members of the
parish. You may register for (CCD) classes in the Parish
office during regular business hours or you can find
registration forms in the back of church. Please register as
soon as possible, and return the form to the parish office.
Flea Market - Saturday, May 24th & Sunday, May 25th in
Marciano Hall . There will be food for sell both days, a
large variety of household items, dress and casual
clothing/attire, shoes, games, dishware, toys, knick knacks,
wall décor, books etc. all in good condition & at a good
discounted price. Invite your family, friends & neighbors to
come on down!

En nuestra parroquia, hemos visto como el gran
regalo de la vida eterna que ha sido dada a tantos
niños en el Bautismo. Nuestra Madre, la Iglesia
Católica, se regocija al ver el semblante alegre de
los padres y padrinos de los niños el día del
Bautismo. El interés tan lleno de fe de los padres al
bautizar sus niños da testimonio al mundo entero de

In our parish, we have seen the great gift of
eternal life in Baptism given to so many children.
Our Mother, the Catholic Church, rejoices in
seeing the parents and Godparents’ joyful faces
at the time of their children’s baptisms. The
parents’ faith-filled interest in baptizing their
children gives witness to our world that we are
still longing to be part of God’s family. We as a
parish have a great respect for your interest in the
faith, as well as your love and concern for your
child, that we would like to offer you the best
formation that we can, so you will be wellprepared for your child’s baptism. We offer an
intense baptism workshop on a Saturday
morning (8:30-12:00 p.m.) every two months. If
you are interested in baptizing your child, you
will need to make appointment with Sister
Margaret to discuss your child’s baptism. At
that time, you will register for the workshop (you
and the godparents must be registered before the
workshop) and choose your baptism date.

SACRAMENTAL / SPIRITUAL LIFE
PARISH REGISTRATION: To all new parishioners:
Welcome! Our parish is a family and we want to know you
personally by name and invite you to share your responsibility as
members of St. Peter the Apostle Parish. To register as a member,
contact someone on the pastoral staff. One of the priests will be
available to register you on the second and fourth weekendsSaturday and Sunday--after all Masses in Marciano Hall. Other
times please call the rectory (610-372-9652) to arrange a face-toface meeting. We are eager to meet you!
BAPTISMS: Celebrated the first and second Sundays of the
month after the 12:30 p. m. Mass and the
fourth Sunday of the month during the 12:30
p. m. mass. Please call Sr. Margaret to arrange
for an appointment before attending the
Baptism workshop. The godparents must be
practicing Catholics that attend Mass and give
a good example to their godchild. They must
be fully initiated, that is to have received the Sacraments of
Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation. The godparents
can be single, but if they are married, they must be married in the
Catholic Church. Children who are first grade and older must
attend Religious Education classes to prepare for baptism.
HOLY MATRIMONY: Couples that wish to marry must
contact the Parish House immediately after engagement to arrange
for the necessary preparation. Couples in a civil marriage must
receive the sacrament of marriage by the Church in order to
receive Communion again. For this, contact any of our priests.
HOMEBOUND: Call the Parish House to arrange visitations.
Visitations are made by Eucharistic ministers weekly. Visitations
are made once a month by the priests around
on the first Friday of the month.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK: It’s a
sacrament that should be received not only by
any catholic who is near death, but also by any
that is seriously ill or weak from old age. For
more information call the Parish House.
QUINCEAÑERA: There is only one monthly celebration for all
the young women who want to celebrate a Quinceañeras in our
parish in a particular month. The date is generally the third
Saturday of the month (at 1:00p.m.) and always determined by the
parish. As a community we celebrate the gift of life in our young
ladies and welcome them to be more actively involved in our
parish as they become Christian women. Contact Wanda Spring
(Spanish ) at 610-372-2017 or Richelle Smith (English ) at 484855-8144 four months in advance to register and start the
process which includes mandatory participation in a workshop.

INSCRIPCIÓN PARROQUIAL: A todos los nuevos
feligreses: ¡Bienvenidos! Nuestra parroquia es una familia y

a compartir su responsabilidad como miembros de la Parroquia
del Apóstol St. Pedro. Comuníquese con algún miembro del

necesaria. Las parejas ya casadas por lo
civil deben recibir el sacramento del
matrimonio por la Iglesia para poder recibir la Comunión
nuevamente. Contacte uno de nuestros sacerdotes.
INCAPACITADOS: Llamar a la Casa Parroquial para
poderlos visitar. Las visitas a sus hogares serán hechas por los
ministros de la Eucaristía semanalmente. Los sacerdotes hacen
una visita alrededor los primeros viernes del mes.
UNCIÓN DE LOS ENFERMOS: Es un sacramento que
deberá ser recibido no sólo por aquel que está a punto de morir,
sino por cualquier católico que esté seriamente enfermo o débil
por el paso de los años.
QUINCEAÑERA: Habrá solamente una
celebración mensual para todas las jóvenes que
quieran celebrar una Quinceañera en la parroquia
en un mes particular. La fecha es generalmente el
tercer sábado del mes (a la 1:00 p. m.) y siempre
determinada por la parroquia. Como comunidad,
celebramos el don de la vida en estas jovencitas y damos la acogida para
que ellas tomen una parte más activa en nuestra parroquia, al convertirse
