The Readings Today
Today we celebrate the Spirit-filled birth of the church. The infant church was small but mighty, empowering those who
embraced the gift and enabling them to preach (Acts 2:1-11). The energy and confusion, different languages, many gifts,
qualities and ideas were no obstacle to the building up of the church, they were all baptized into one body and one Spirit
(see second reading: 1 Cor 12:3b-7, 12-13). For us today Jesus continues giving (breathing) in us life (Gospel: John 20:1923).

F
or us Christians, Pentecost is a joyful feast, especially if
we are on fire with his presence. It is he that warms our heart
so that we can be at peace in the midst of conflict.
How I would like to convey to you this message, this fire,
this joy... what Jesus’s disciples felt we can also feel in the
same way.
It always astounds me how easily we get hooked in simple
things and work passionately on them.
Indeed, I have met many people that speak with so much
enthusiasm about very simple projects. The Holy Spirit abides
in us and works through us and we do not even notice it.
And one has to wonder why so many believers are not
passionate about living their faith; they do not feel the joy
and excitement in believing. So often in church faith is
combined with boredom. Bishop Eusebio speaking to the
confirmandi mentioned sleeping during Mass. In similar
words Pope Francis speaks that the young today are “at
risk of discouragement and spiritual anemia.”

cannot help but wonder: do these people really believe that the
Holy Spirit abides in each one of them?
Pentecost is our feast and a very special feast for the
Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. Because of this, please pray
that we may always radiate this fire and not bore anyone and
we will pray that His fire descend upon each of you. Isn’t it
about time we told the world that we are joyful and proud to be
Christians? And that, despite our stupidities, the Church is
magnificent, because the Holy Spirit is in control and Christ is
in our midst as the sun.
Happy Pentecost!
And faith is an earthquake, not a nap; a fire, not a
routine. How can we not think of the Holy Spirit without
our heart exploding inside us?
Yes, faith is transmitted and often one hears boring
sermons (see below a joke I have included). When
someone is bored at Mass or asleep it could be because
what the priest is saying or doing does not touch their

Last weekend we had the

think we can all agree that it makes a
difference, though we are still working
with the settings to improve it. Several
parishioners have already expressed their
gratefulness.

Hearing Devices. We now have 10 units
that can work three different ways. You
can plug in your own earbuds to the
receiving unit. You can now use any
three pieces of equipment: over the ear
headphone, or if you wear a Coil hearing
aid, it can connect to our receivers via
Bluetooth. Please try them if you need
hearing assistance and give us feedback

Let’s begin this Sunday’s reflection by opening the scripture:
Resurrection and Life
As you meditate keep in mind the following: This is not a resurrection, it is a resuscitation (Lazarus dies again). But
it does give us a foretaste, and gives Jesus an opportunity to talk about resurrection, which is why this text is
important. Notice that the story goes to the point of showing Jesus’ love for Lazarus. Remember resurrection is only
possible in and through the person of Jesus. Resurrection “unbinds” us from the reign of death.
(John 11:17-34)
When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been
in the tomb for four days... When Martha heard that Jesus
was coming, she went to meet him; but Mary sat at home.
Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my
brother would not have died. But even now I know that
whatever you ask of God, God will give you." Jesus said to
her, "Your brother will rise." Martha said to him, "I know he
will rise, in the resurrection on the last day." Jesus told her,
"I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me,
even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and
believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said
to him, "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the
Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the
world." ... [Jesus] said, "Where have you laid him?" They
said to him, "Sir, come and see." And Jesus wept. So the
Jews said, "See how he loved him." But some of them said,
"Could not the one who opened the eyes of the blind man
have done something so that this man would not have
died?" ... Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the
dead man's sister, said to
him, "Lord, by now there
will be a stench; he has
been dead for four days."
Jesus said to her, "Did I not
tell you that if you believe
you will see the glory of
God?" So they took away
the stone. And Jesus raised
his eyes and said, "Father,
I thank you for hearing me.
I know that you always
hear me; but because of the
crowd here I have said this, that they may believe that you
sent me." And when he had said this, he cried out in a loud
voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, tied
hand and foot with burial bands, and his face was wrapped
in a cloth. So Jesus said to them, "Untie him and let him
go."
I Am Going To Prepare a Place For You
As you meditate keep in mind that eternal life is about hearing, believing, and even living
(good deeds). Notice in this beautiful gospel passage the explicit invitation into the life of
the Trinity and notice also the intimacy of Jesus coming to take us to him.
(John 14:1-7)
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In
my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I
have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare
a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am
you also may be. Where (I) am going you know the way." Thomas said to him,
"Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus
said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From
now on you do know him and have seen him."
Nothing Can Separate Us
From the Love of God
As you meditate remember that our life begins
with Baptism (not just after we die). With this in
mind forgiveness of sins is part of this new life.
How can we then more consciously connect with
Jesus’ death and resurrection? How can we
“possess” Jesus? Consider praying this week
with this text.
(Romans 8:38-39)
For I am convinced that neither death, nor
life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
present things, nor future things, nor
powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any
other creature will be able to separate us
from the love of God in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
SEAS
LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN...
Jesus, let us hear your call anew.
Bless us with the courage to respond.
Clear away all barriers.
Send your Holy Spirit and
make us your disciples.
Jesus, Savior of all People… Save them!
Inherit The Kingdom
As you meditate this last text know that this is a well known reading, but
do we really take it seriously? We need to love the world like Jesus loved
the world. Pope Francis is telling us how: loving the most vulnerable and
seeing Jesus in them. It is about reaching out because we love like we have
been loved.
(Matthew 25:31-46)
When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with
him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be
assembled before him. And he will separate them one from
another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will
place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king
will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my
Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation
of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty
and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked
and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you
visited me.' Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord,
when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you
drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked
and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit
you?' And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you,
whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did
for me.' Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me.’ ...
And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to
eternal life."

To Know and Love the Holy Spirit

Fr. Felix said about the Holy Spirit “to make people know Him and love Him, teaching them properly who this Third Divine
person is and what he is capable of doing.” I am very proud to be a Missionary of the Holy Spirit and to celebrate on this Feast of
the Church, Pentecost, our feast.
I remember an event from my time as a postulant; during a talk, a priest was telling us: “Remember that you will be
Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, but you won’t be the Holy Spirit.” I always remember this and it has helped me a lot in my spiritual
life. I am not the Holy Spirit, He lives in me and He molds me during my own process of holiness. I have learned to hear His voice
and discern His motions in my innermost being. It hasn’t been easy for me to grow in my spiritual life, but I’ve noticed that the
more my relationship with the Holy Spirit grows, the further I advance spiritually. I have come to realize that my growth in life in
the Spirit does not happen because of something I do, it is God’s action in me. I just have to let myself be moved by him and be
docile to his inspirations. I believe that each one of us is called to use discernment as an important aspect of our spiritual growth;
but we cannot grow if we don’t allow the Holy Spirit to act in us.
Fr Felix asked us to make the Holy Spirit known, and make people love him. This is why I am writing to you this week and my
invitation is for you to grow in your love for Him. Love the Holy Spirit and make him a part of your daily life. Believe in his actions,
and that he resides in you. You are a living temple of his presence and you are called to cleanse yourself and make it an
honorable temple for him. Allow yourself to be moved by his gifts and let his action be seen in your life. I am certain that he will
pull you through any difficult situation and, above all, he will remove
you from all sin and vice. Love him greatly and let Him imbue you with
His love and power. I would like to invoke over you the healing power
of the Holy Spirit: May he heal every wound from your past which
prevents you from being happy and prevents you from moving forward
in your spiritual life. Consecrate yourself to the Holy Spirit with this
simple prayer:
O Holy Spirit! Receive the perfect and complete consecration
of my whole being. In all my actions, grant me the grace of
being my Light, my Guide, my Strength and the Love of my
heart.
I surrender myself to You, and I ask of You the grace to be
faithful to Your inspirations.
Transform me through Mary and with Mary into a true image of
Christ Jesus, for the glory of the Father, and the salvation of
the world. Amen.
Conocer y amar al Espíritu Santo
El P. Félix escribía sobre el Espíritu Santo; “hacerle conocer y amar, instruyendo bien a los fieles sobre lo que es y lo que
puede esta Tercera Divina Persona”. Yo me siento muy orgulloso de ser Misionero del Espíritu Santo y de celebrar en esta fiesta
de Pentecostés la fiesta de la Iglesia; nuestra fiesta.
Me llega a mi corazón un recuerdo de cuando yo era postulante; en una plática un sacerdote nos decía: “Recuerden que
ustedes serán Misioneros del Espíritu Santo, pero no el Espíritu Santo”. Siempre recuerdo esto y me ha ayudado mucho en mi
vida espiritual. Yo no soy el Espíritu Santo, es él quien vive en mí y me va formando en mi propio proceso de santidad. He tenido
que aprender a escuchar su voz y aprender a distinguir los movimientos que él va haciendo en mi interior. No ha sido fácil para
mí crecer en mi vida espiritual, pero he visto que conforme voy creciendo en la relación con el Espíritu Santo he avanzado más.
He tomado conciencia que el crecimiento de mi vida en el Espíritu no depende de mí, sino de la acción de Dios en mí. Yo sólo
me tengo que dejar mover por él y ser dócil a sus inspiraciones. Creo que cada uno de nosotros estamos llamados a hacer del
discernimiento un aspecto importante en nuestro crecimiento espiritual; pero no podemos crecer si no dejamos actuar al Espíritu
en nosotros.
El P. Félix nos pedía dar a conocer al Espíritu Santo, y hacerlo amar. Por eso te estoy escribiendo esta semana y te invito a
crecer en amor a él. Ama al Espíritu Santo y hazlo parte de tu vida diaria. Cree en su acción y en su habitación en tu persona. Tú
eres templo vivo de su presencia y estás llamado a limpiar y a hacer un templo honorable para él. Déjate mover por sus dones y
que la acción de él se vea en tu vida. Estoy seguro que Él te sacará de toda situación difícil y sobre todo te alejará de todo
pecado y vicio. Tenle un gran amor y déjate impregnar de su amor y de su poder. Me gustaría pedir sobre ti el poder de sanación
del Espíritu Santo: Que te sane de toda herida de tu pasado que no te deja ser feliz y que no te deja avanzar en tu vida
espiritual. Conságrate a él siempre con esta sencilla oración:
¡Oh Espíritu Santo! Recibe la consagración perfecta y absoluta de todo mi ser. Dígnate ser en adelante, en cada uno
de los instantes de mi vida y en cada una de mis acciones: mi Director, mi Luz, mi Guía y mi Fuerza.
Yo me abandono sin reserva a tus operaciones divinas y quiero ser siempre dócil a tus inspiraciones.
¡Oh Espíritu Santo! Transfórmame con María y en María, en Cristo Jesús, para gloria del Padre, aumento y
santificación de los sacerdotes y salvación del mundo. Amén

Monday May 16th: Join other middle school youth for
our session: "Following your Leaders" as we look at
the sacrament of Holy Orders. Open youth room at 6:45
- sessions at 7pm.
Parental Notice
This week at Edge we will focus on the
Sacrament of the Eucharist. We encourage the youth to reflect
on the importance of recognizing the true presence of Jesus in
the Eucharist. We also will discuss Jesus as the Good
Shepherd, who guides us and provides us with all that we
need. During a time of Eucharistic Adoration, we encourage
the youth to dive deeper into prayer and hear the voice of
Christ and draw near to Him. Here are some questions to
discuss with your son or daughter this week:
• What did you think of the Shepherd’s Voice activity? What
did you learn from it?
• What did you learn tonight about the Eucharist?
• During Adoration, was there anything that stood out to you
while you were praying?

LifeTeen
meeting of the
year on Sunday, 5/15 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the
fellowship hall! We’ll send off our seniors in style,
among other things. This will be a potluck meal, so
please contribute a dish.
 Our World Youth Day pilgrims host one of their
final La Palmera dine-in fundraisers this Tuesday,
5/17. Get a voucher after Mass (or grab one off the
counter at church sometime) and join us for another
great night of food and fellowship with other St.
EAS parishioners!
 Keep your eyes peeled for other announcements of
fun upcoming summer activities, teens. LifeTeen
takes a break for the summer, but there’s still a lot
of good stuff happening at St. EAS for all of you.

listening on DVD to “Divine Mercy-The Second Greatest Story
Ever Told” presented by Fr. Michael Gaitley MIC. This series is
based on Fr. Gaitley’s book of the same name. In this series, we
explore the cradle of the Catholic Faith in Poland and the great
Saints of Poland who have had a part in preserving our Catholic
