Saint Joseph Church Mission Statement
We, the people of Saint Joseph Church, by the grace of God,
born again in the waters of Baptism, seek to create a
community where our mutual faith in Jesus as Lord and
Savior, encourages us to continue growing as disciples. We
believe that discipleship is a way of life. We strive to show
that we are committed disciples, eager to welcome the
stranger, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and comfort
the bereaved. Inspired by God’s word and nourished by the
Eucharist, we pledge ourselves to active discipleship all for
God’s greater glory and honor.

The Epiphany of the Lord!
On January 3rd we celebrate Epiphany of the Lord. It is revealed to the world that he is
our savior!
Heavenly Father, you created the sun, planets, moon and stars, and everything that breathes to give you glory. You are mighty and
powerful, yet you are as close to us as our breath, and you live within our hearts. Inspire us more with your gentle Spirit and
direction just as you did the wise men who traveled far to see your glory in the Christ child. We ask the through you Son Jesus.
AMEN.

LOOKING IN THE RIGHT PLACES
“Appearances can be deceiving,” as the saying goes. As we
celebrate the epiphania, the “appearing” of the eternal Word of
God on earth, this is still true.
What rapturous foresight must have filled Isaiah as he wrote
the words we hear today. How, for four hundred years, they must
have filled the hearts of the people of Israel with hope for the day
when God’s glory would shine on them. How deceived some
must have felt when the glory of God came to them in the lowliest and humblest of human lives.
We have many expectations about how the divine presence
will appear among us. But we can also set ourselves up, through
these expectations, to miss the divine glory when it truly appears.
We get caught up in looking for the star, forgetting that the star is
not the divine sign, the babe is. It may take a persistent journey
for us to come upon the true appearance of God’s glory in our
lives: Jesus Christ. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Please show your support for the Saint Joseph Church Holy Name Society and their many charitable acts by purchasing a Valentine’s
Day card. Cards will be available for purchase in the vestibule area after mass, mid January into February. The cards were beautifully
handcrafted by Saint Joseph Academy students. In Ms. Croce’s art class, K-8 students were asked to reflect on love; who do they
love, who loves them, and how is that love shown? This year they were given the choice to draw about love, illustrate a bible verse on
love and friendship, or create an original poem or haiku. Thank you for all your past support! God Bless!

PASTOR’S DESK—ESCRITORIO DEL PASTOR
Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord. The
Feast commemorates the coming the Wise Men and all those
that seek the Lord. It reminds us that as the Lord came to be
with us at Christmas it is our responsibility to continue to find
Him in all aspects of our lives. Like the Wise Men we are
called to offer our gifts and talents to the Lord. We do that in
many ways. In the gift of love we give to our families and
friends, in our generosity with all the gifts that God has given
to us and in our parish.
We welcome today Fr. Matthew Dooley, the
Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Newark. He will be
preaching all the masses speaking about how each of us is
called to foster vocations in our own families and
communities.
I will be in Florida for the next 2 weeks spending time
with my family. Please be assured of my prayers as we continue in this Christmas season.
Do you have photos of events (your baptism, wedding, graduation, dance, festival, etc.) that took place at St. Joseph Church or
School? We're assembling a collection of historical pictures to use at various anniversary events throughout the year as well as
on the parish website. Email your digital photo(s) to "[email protected]". You can send just one or as many as your
email account will allow. Please also email a Word document or PDF including a list of the photo descriptions (year and event
name if you have them) so we can categorize your photos.
Some things to keep in mind:
- We regret that we won't be able to accept any printed photographs in the rectory office. We simply do not have the resources
necessary to collect, store, scan, and return printed photographs.
- We can't promise that we'll use every photo we receive, but aim to present as much of the parish history as possible.
- When scanning your photographs, scan them at resolutions no higher than 300dpi (please contact us if you require assistance)
- By emailing your photographs to us, you are giving us permission to reproduce them without restriction in both print and electronic media (including the parish website).
For questions related to this historical photo collection, please contact Michael Chladil at [email protected]. Please
feel free to pass this message along to anyone else you think might have a good collection of pictures at St. Joseph Church.
