THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER, CONTINUED:
After singing the memorial acclamation,
we enter a new part of the Eucharistic
Prayer, called the Anamnesis or remembering. Jesus said “Do this in memory of
me” and for two millennia, our Eucharist
prayer has included remembering. As we
fulfill Christ’s command to act in his
memory, we can offer to God what he
has given to us: A sacrifice that is not
merely holy, but perfect: The heavenly
feast, given to us in the life-giving bread and in the saving
cup. In making this offering, we offer ourselves, as the
Body of Christ in the Spirit, as well, asking the Father to
accept US along with Christ, and to make us an everlasting
gift. Remember: at the beginning of the Eucharistic Prayer,
the priest invoked the Holy Spirit over the gifts. Now, we
pray in a second invocation that the Holy Spirit will come
upon all of US, that we will be filled with the Spirit through
our sharing, and that we will, in the unity of the Spirit, be
brought together by our communion Christ’s Body and
Blood. Next, the Eucharistic Prayer moves into a series of
intercessions for various needs. These are more formal that
the prayers of the faithful that concluded the Liturgy of the
Word. We pray for the Church throughout the world, asking
God to bless it with faith and love, with unity and peace.
We pray for our Pope and our local bishop, mentioning them
by name. We pray for all the clergy and all the faithful. We
pray for the dead, who have gone before us. And finally, we
pray to God for ourselves. We ask for God’s forgiveness and
mercy, and we implore that God will make us worthy to
share eternal life.

Inclusive Ministries
SPRED (Special Religious Education) invites you to consider
becoming a “helper catechist” to a special friend this year. We
currently have additional friends who have expressed an interest in participating in a new group, and we need helper catechists to walk the journey with them.
SPRED is designed to form small adult faith communities into
which adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities
are welcomed. This ministry provides a way for the participants to encounter God in community, in a manner that is appropriate to their gifts.
Please consider whether the Lord is calling you to offer the gift
of yourself in this ministry. Contact Dave Dwyer at 817-5960
or Christa Blomstrom at 595-0385 ext. 119 for more details.
Do you have a child with special
needs or know someone who may
want to participate in our
BREATHE Respite night? Call now
to make your child’s reservation for our next BREATHE
fun night! Our next BREATHE fun night will be October
7th . For more information or to register, call Christa at the parish office or e-mail [email protected].

Virtue of the Month: Hope
Hope is the anchor of the soul:
In the letter to the Hebrews the author uses the symbol of the anchor for the theological virtue of Hope: This hope we
have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast (Hebrews 6:18). Just as the boat stays connected to its
desired place through the strength of the anchor, so also, the strength of hope keeps us connected to heaven, our desired home. Hope is the certainty that what God has promised He is capable of providing, particularly as regards our
heavenly inheritance. Living in a material world it is easy to think of the anchor, enormous in size and weight, is
stronger than a spiritual reality of virtue. But hope has proven itself strong through the vast numbers of martyrs who
have given their lives in the hope that what God has promised He will indeed provide.
