pistoleros querían cuidar a alguien

Report Sex Offender and Prison Inmate Abuse of Facebook
As part of its ongoing efforts to
ensure public safety both inside
and outside the state’s prisons,
California Department of Corrections has been actively monitoring
Facebook for accounts administered by inmates or on behalf of
an inmate. The department has
seen numerous instances in which
inmates, using their Facebook accounts, have delivered threats to
victims or have made unwanted
sexual advances.
Last year, California Department
of Corrections received a call from
a mother of a victim of a child
molester. The family had just
returned from vacation to find
several pieces of mail from the
offender who was in state prison. The mail contained accurate
drawings of the woman’s 17-year
old daughter, even though it had
been at least seven years since
the offender had been convicted
and sent to prison. Details of the
victim, such as how she wore her
hair and the brand of clothes she
wore were accurate. An investigation revealed the inmate had used
a cell phone to find and view the
MySpace and Facebook web pages
of the victim.
With access to the pages, the offender was able to obtain current
photos, which he used to draw his
pictures.
Inmates are allowed to have Facebook profiles created prior to incarceration. If any evidence shows
the account has been used while in
the facility, Facebook Security will
disable the account.
Over the past few years California Department of Corrections
has seen a massive influx in the
number of cell phones being used
by prisoners. In 2006, correctional
officers confiscated 261 devices,
while in the first six months of
this year, more than 7,284 were
confiscated.
To report a Facebook account that
you suspect is being administered
by an inmate, or an outside party
on behalf of the inmate, please
contact California Department of
Corrections’s Office of Victim and
Survivor Rights & Services, call toll

and members of the public can notify Facebook security of accounts

IRS is Warning Northern California Residents of a Scam that Targets the
Elderly and Disabled
The Internal Revenue Service is
warning Northern California residents of a scam that targets the elderly and disabled. IRS authorities
have received reports of incidents
in Fresno, Sacramento, Stockton,
and places within the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose,
but do not know the extent of the
scam. “These things are spreading,”
IRS spokesman Jesse Weller said.
“We want to stop this before it
spreads any further.” Elderly, lowincome and disabled members of
the Asian community in particular
seem to be targeted in a refund
scheme in which the con artist
convinces the victim that he or
she is eligible for a refund through
the “Making Work Pay” tax credit.
This credit was issued in 2009 and
2010 to eligible working individuals based on wages, and taxpayers
could receive up to $400 per person
over the course of a year, Weller
said.
The credit the scammers are
touting is real but the victims in
these cons were not employed and
therefore not eligible for a refund.
“If there’s a grain of truth in something, it makes it seem more legitimate,” he said. The suspects then
charge the victims hundreds of
dollars in fees to prepare the bogus
paperwork. IRS authorities do not
know if the suspects are the same
in these scamming incidents or if
other criminals are copying the
con, Weller said.
A similar national scheme has also
been seen in Northern California.
This scam also preys on the elderly
and claims to give refunds based
on Social Security benefits. Weller
said there is no truth to these
claims.Suspects involved in the national scam tend to market their
services in churches and by using
handmade flyers, Weller said. The
IRS is advising the public to be cautious and to verify claims at www.
IRS.gov or by calling (800) 829-1040.

Jaime Cardenas
Alleged Murder /

HOTLINE: 1-800-9CAUGHT
EMAIL: [email protected]
East Palo Alto police released photographs today of two suspects wanted for
questioning in two murders last month in an attempt to find themen and warn the
public. Jaime Cardenas, 19, and Fidel Silva, 20, are wanted for questioning in connection
with homicides on July 13 and July 19, police said. The two East Palo Alto residents are
also suspects in two armed robberies and a triple shooting in Grand Junction, Colo.,
in which one person was killed and two others injured, police Chief Ron Davis said.
Investigators believe that the two men were responsible for the death of 19-year-old
Catherine Fisher, who was shot while sitting in a parked car with another female and
a male in the 2500 block of Annapolis Street at about 2:10 a.m. on July 13, police said.
The suspects approached the car and opened fire, killing the Menlo Park woman.
Investigators believe the gunmen were targeting the male in the car. Police suspect the
men then traveled to Grand Junction, where Fuentes had a “connection,” acting Capt.
Jeff Liu said. Grand Junction police said the men are suspects in an armed robbery at a
cash advance business, a home burglary, an armed robbery at a liquor store and a fatal
shooting. All of the crimes were committed on July 16. Detectives believe the two men
returned to East Palo Alto, and were involved in the shooting of 26-year-old Hugo Chavez
on July 19 at about 8:35 p.m. near 13 Camellia Court. Chavez, who had a brief conversation
with the gunman before he was shot several times, was taken to a hospital where he
died about four hours later. Liu said he hopes that the photographs will provide new
leads to find Cardenas and Silva, while also warning the public to be wary of the two
men. “These guys are dangerous. We need to get them off the streets. We don’t want
them to hurt people,” Liu said.

Murder / asesinato
The Accord circled the parking lot and approached them again as they reached their
car, according to police. The car stopped and a passenger opened fire, hitting the
couple, before the driver accelerated away, police said. Police believe Rodriguez was
the driver of the Accord.
They have not yet identified a suspected shooter. Officers found the car abandoned
at an apartment complex off of Ohlone Parkway an hour after the shooting. Diaz
died at the scene. His girlfriend was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital for
an arm injury and has since been released. Sgt. Saul Gonzalez, a spokesman for the
Police Department, said Diaz was affiliated with a gang.
The shooting is being investigated as gang-related, but it does not appear to be
connected to other recent murders in Santa Cruz County, police said. Rodriguez has a

Watsonville police have identified a man they believe drove the car used in the fatal
gang-related shooting of an 18-year-old Prunedale man in the parking lot of a Target
store last month. Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Watsonville resident
Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 22, for the shooting death of Gustavo Diaz on the night of
July 23 at the Target at 1415 Main St. Around 6:15 p.m. that day, Diaz and his 25-yearold girlfriend were walking out of the store toward their car when a green Honda
Accord drove by them, police said.

Helping Your Teen Be a Responsible Driver
By Patt Saso
www.SasoSeminars.com
I remember well that cool gray afternoon in January, risking my life and
limb. Our 15-year-old son had gotten
his driver’s permit a few hours earlier
and begged to go practice.
Hey, in all fairness, everything went
well backing out of the driveway.
But after careening around the first
corner, the situation began to deteriorate. Glancing over his shoulder to
make a lane change our car swerved
into the other lane. I lost it.
My knuckles were white clutching
the handle above my door and driving
shotgun was not a familiar position
for me in MY car. We were a quarter
mile from home and I was already
finished. Trying to hide my fear I said,
“Good job, Brain! Let’s head back home.
This was a great start!” I was thinking
to myself, OMG this is just the beginning…this job is for dad.
Our son has since become a fullfledged driver without any incidences.
His dad provided him with more than
sufficient opportunity to practice
driving. It is remarkable how much
responsibility he demonstrated after
getting his license. He set his alarm
and got himself up in the morning,
willingly driving his sister to swim
practice at 7 a.m. He loved the freedom and took this responsibility seriously.
With our second driver in the family the story was not so optimistic.
Just today we were saying to friends
that we were lucky nothing more
serious ever happened to him. It was
very stressful during the years he was
growing up. We were continually worried about his judgment and safety.
Returning from an overnight trip
we found doughnut skid marks in
front of our own home! Even at twenty years of age he lacked the maturity
to reflect that just maybe a neighbor
might be watching and report back
to us. He was so busted. And the good
news is he is now extremely responsible behind the wheel, but it wasn’t
always like that.
Here are eight parenting tips to
help your teen exercise responsibility
as a beginning driver:
1. Be a role model
Kids do as we do, not as we say. They
learn by watching and imitating. Be
aware of the unspoken messages you
are teaching your teen while you are
in the driver’s seat.
2. Practice, practice, practice
The more experience your teen has
behind the wheel honing his or her
skills, the safer s/he will be as a driver.
Experience is the best teacher and it
helps a new driver feel more confident
and better able to react to challenging
situations.
3. Don’t wing it - set goals
Before heading out for each driving
session, plan the skills you want your
teen to practice. If possible, make your
goals parallel what your teen is learning in driver’s education.
4. Know your customer
Know your teen’s personality and
temperament, and your own for that
matter, while taking into consideration the driving lesson for the day.
Nerves can get frayed if you and your
teen are not prepared for the more
challenging lessons, and it may be difficult to stay calm, clear and patient.
5. Believe in your teenager
Trust in his or her ability to learn
new driving skills. Believe in your teen
and try to recall how difficult and
exciting it was when you started to
drive.
6. Converse about expectations
Talk about driving issues before
your teen gets his or her license. For
example, spell out the driving privilege guidelines. Remind him or her
that you will still need to know where
s/he is going, with whom, and what
Victim of a Crime?

time s/he will be home. You might also
want to talk about who is financially
responsible to pay the ticket when
(not if) they get one.
7. Discuss drinking and driving
This will be an ongoing discussion,
talking about the real dangers of
drinking and driving. Tell your teen
clearly not to drink and drive. Consider making a pledge that you will pick
up your teen anytime, anywhere, no
questions asked, if he or she calls for
a ride home because they have used
alcohol. Safety trumps all else.
8. Set a reasonable curfew
Discuss and set a curfew before the
driver’s license is earned. As your teen
gets older you will want to give more
freedom and flexibility.
Driving is a privilege, not a right.
Give a friendly reminder to your teen
that the privilege may be questioned
or revoked if s/he is not fulfilling his
responsibilities at home and school.
Parents, there will be unexpected
curves ahead, but with some straight
talk and planning, you can help your
teen learn to be a responsible young
adult. So hang on and enjoy the ride.

The San Jose Police Department is currently seeking Vincent Chavez on a warrant
charging him with Robbery. Detective Jason Tanner reports that on October 6th,
2010, 5 pm, a female victim was sitting inside of her car at the Walgreens parking lot
on Landess and Morrill Avenues. While she was there Chavez approached her and
allegedly pointed a gun at her head and ordered her out of the car. Apparently he was
unfamiliar with the car and unable to start it, so he instead fled the vehicle allegedly
taking the victim’s purse. Chavez is a known gang member and has a tattoo of a bird
on his left hand.

Movie Critics Corner: Another Earth
Rhoda Williams is driving on her
way home from a party thrown for
her after getting accepted into MIT.
After a few drinks, she gets into her
car and on the way home the radio
DJ announces that a planet identical to our Earth has not only been
recently discovered, it’s visible in the
night sky that very moment. While
trying to get a glimpse while driving, she causes a head on collision
with another car, killing all but one
of the passengers inside. This is the
premise of Another Earth, a refreshing break in the lineup of loud, multimillion dollar summer blockbusters,
which uses minimalistic filmmaking
and light sci-fi elements to explore
themes of personal responsibility, cope, and self exploration. From
what I’ve read, one of the main criticisms this film has been getting is
because of its scientific implausibility. It’s true that the astronomical
events shown are impossible, it’s
more metaphorical than to be taken
as literally. The theme of a tangible
second earth in which another one
of us exists is a metaphor for self reflection. I would say just about every
movie playing this moment has some
issue of scientific implausibility, so as
to why this one is being singles out,
I’m not sure. One of the short comings that were slightly distracting was
a camera that would not sit still but
this is a minor inconvenience. Most
of what this movie does has been
done before, more effectively in other
indie films before, but after watching countless movies of stuff blowing
up, remakes, sequels, rip offs of the
creatively dead main stream movies
available right now, it’s nice to watch
something move at a slower pace
and let oneself think, not only about
what’s going onscreen but in our own
lives. Visually engaging, philosophical,
and open to interpretation, I enjoyed
Another Earth.

Dim-witted drunk takes nap in
police parking lot
A 22 year-old West Lafayette, Indiana man came up with a really
stupid idea. First, he figured he’d
have a few drinks and then go
for a drive. He got a bit sleepy so
he decided to pull into a parking
lot and take a little nap - with the
engine running. Pretty stupid, eh?
Well, hang onto your hat, because
the parking lot our dim-witted
friend pulled into was a police
parking lot - right in front of police
headquarters. He was arrested for
drunk driving.
