Con todo el ajetreo y el bullicio, es fácil olvidarse que los mejores regalos ‐ los regalos que los niños más recuerdan y agradecen son los regalos que son gra s y que solo los padres les pueden dar. Indudablemente el regalo más preciado que podemos darle a nuestros hijos es nosotros mismos‐nuestro empo. Un par do en familia de fútbol americano sin con‐
tacto, o un juego de mesa con tonos compe
vos, las familiares canciones fes vas – estos son los regalos que permanecen con nosotros toda la vida. Las novedades o juguetes considerados “los rega‐
los de moda” pronto se desvanecen de la memoria mientras que los momentos especiales que pasa‐
mos en familia permanecen para siempre. Dele a su hijo el regalo de su empo; haga un esfuerzo para reunir a la familia alrededor de la mesa para cenar; salgan a caminar por el vecindario y observen la belleza de la naturaleza; saque empo para animarlo cuando sea necesario, o darle un abrazo sin ra‐
zón, solo para demostrarle que usted se interesa en él/ella y que su amor es incondicional. Pero más que nada, dele los regalos de es mulo y confianza en ellos mismos. Los estudiantes que creen en ellos mismos y en su habilidad para tener éxito a menudo logran ese éxito. Mi deseo para todas las familias de Sweetwater es el que la temporada de vacaciones de invierno sea de descanso, tranquilidad y llena de momentos felices haciendo memorias entrañables con familiares y amigos. Sweetwater Middle School students will be promoted to the high school on time
TEACHER SPOTLIGHT
This week our Teacher's Spotlight is Ms. Megan Rainwater who has been a teacher at Sweetwater Middle
school for the past four years. Ms. Rainwater is a graduate of Georgia Southern University where she was
awarded a degree in Health and Kinesiology. This dedicated teacher shares that she looks forward to
coming to work daily because of her truly amazing students who she says are often more of an inspiration
to her than she may be to them. During her time at Sweetwater, she has learned how rewarding a career
in education can be and shares that she is elated to be part of the Sweetwater family. This year has
brought her new team members and new students whom she adores. Most of her evenings are spent at
SMS calling parents and preparing lessons for the next day. Ms. Rainwater shares that the greatest experiences she has had during her teaching career are those moments when she has witnessed students accomplish more than they thought they could.

Mr. Oce’s Technology Class
This week's Student Spotlight recognizes
Cashmer Jones for his efforts to become one
of the most improved math students in sixth
grade. Cashmer, whose friends call
him"Cash," always participates in class and is
consistently willing to help others. As a result
of his positive attitude and excellent work
ethic, he barely missed a perfect score on our
recent Big 20 test of AKS, has scored a grade
of A on almost every math common assessment, and is on track to exceed expectations
on his CRCT tests next spring. His positive
performance in math class also works to motivate his peers to improve their performance
and to become more engaged in their own
learning. We appreciate Cashmer's upbeat
demeanor and the positive energy he brings
to our team and our school. Congratulations,

On December 7th, Sweetwater's team of Technologists
and Engineers competed in the Lego League competition
at Radloff Middle School. We are pleased to announce
that Sweetwater's team captured 1 st place in the Robot
Design category and 6th place overall in the entire competition! Please congratulate the following students for

Sixth Grader Posts Perfect Score in National Math Competition
Congratulations to sixth grader Kenneth Truong, who posted a PERFECT score in Meet 2 of the nationwide
Continental Math League competition. This problem solving event is designed to maximize students' opportunities to improve and apply higher levels of problem solving and analytic and critical thinking skills.

ATTENTION PARENTS
Please remember that if you move to a new location or if you change your email address, you will need to
update your information in order to retain access to the Student and Parent Portals.
If you move to a new location, you will need to come to the Records Room to verify your new address.
Please bring a copy of your lease or your closing documents AND utility bills addressed to you at your NEW
address for this purpose.
If you or your student has a new email address, please come to Mrs. Fuller's office to fill our a new form in
order to ensure that your access to the Portals remain active.
Flexible Learning Plan Program-FLP
Parent, Letters of Eligibility and Enrollment Forms for our FLP program were mailed before Thanksgiving. If you would like for your child to participate in the FLP Saturday Program, please return the Enrollment forms that you received in that mailing. On Wednesday, January 15th @ 5:30 p.m. there will be a
FLP meeting in the Media Center for parents who have enrolled their child in the program. Also, parents
of students that participated in the program this semester, please complete the enrollment forms that
have been mailed to you to let us know that you want your child to continue in the program. If you

Los estudiantes de Sweetwater Middle School serán promovidos a la preparatoria a tiempo
Maestro destacado
Esta semana el maestro destacado es la Srta. Megan Rainwater, quien ha sido maestra de Sweetwater
Middle School los últimos cuatro años. La Srta. Rainwater se graduó de la Georgia Southern University
donde recibió su título en Salud y Kinesiología. Está dedicada maestra dice desea venir diariamente porque sus estudiantes son verdaderamente increíbles y que a menudo la inspiran más de lo que ella los
puede inspirar a ellos. Durante el tiempo en que ha estado en Sweetwater ha aprendido cuan gratificante
es la carrera de la educación y dice que se enorgullece de ser parte de la familia de Sweetwater. Este
año le ha traído nuevos compañeros de equipo y nuevos estudiantes a los cuales adora. La mayoría de
las tardes las pasa en Sweetwater llamando a los padres y preparando las clases para el día siguiente. La
Srta. Rainwater comparte que las mejores experiencias durante sus años de carrera educativa son aquellos momentos en que ve a los estudiantes logar más de lo que ellos esperaban.

Esta semana el foco estudiantil recae sobre
Cashmer Jones por sus esfuerzos en convertirse el estudiante de 6º grado que más ha
mejorado en matemáticas. Cashmer, a quien
sus amigos le llaman “Cash”, siempre participa en clase y constantemente ayuda a otros
estudiantes. Como resultado de esta actitud
positiva y su excelente ética de trabajo, casi
saco una calificación perfecta en el examen
reciente Big 20 del AKS, ha obtenido calificaciones de A en casi todos los exámenes regulares de matemáticas, y está en camino a
sobrepasar las expectativas del examen CRCT
la primavera entrante. Su desempeño positivo
en la clase de matemáticas también contribuye a motivar a sus compañeros a mejorar su
desempeño y a estar más dedicados a su propio aprendizaje. Agradecemos su comportamiento optimista y la energía positiva que
trae a sus compañeros en la escuela.

El 7 de diciembre el equipo tecnológico y de ingeniería

Felicitaciones a Kenneth Truong, estudiante de sexto grado, quien obtuvo una puntuación perfecta en la
segunda ronda del concurso Continental Math League a nivel nacional. Este evento de solución de problemas está diseñado para maximizar las oportunidades de los estudiantes para mejorar y aplicar más altos

ATTENTION PARENTS
Por favor recuerde que cuando cambie de dirección o de correo electrónico debe actualizar su información
para no perder el acceso a los portales de padres y de estudiantes.

Programa de Aprendizaje Flexible -FLP

Los estudiantes de Sweetwater Middle School serán promovidos a la preparatoria a tiempo
Georgia Parent Survey
Dear Parents,
On January 6th, the Georgia Parent Survey for the 2013-2014 will be available for access on the
Sweetwater Middle School website. This is the first year that the Georgia Parent Survey has been administered. The questions on the survey will mirror the school climate questions in the Georgia Student
Health Survey II and the Georgia School Personnel Survey. Data from the Georgia Parent Survey will be
used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating within the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) to determine a correlation between the student responses on the Georgia Student Health
Survey II and school personnel responses on the Georgia School Personnel Survey.
Parents will be able to complete the survey using their personal computers, smartphones or iPads. Parents who do not have access to the Internet will be able to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school.
The Parent Survey has 20 questions and should take no more than 5 - 10 minutes to complete. Survey
responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted
online.

Events at Sweetwater Middle School
Sweetwater's Art Club is sponsoring two holiday projects for this season. Please help us help others by
supporting the Empty Bowls: Help for the Holidays and the Winter Art Sale events.
All visual art students plus Art Club members, members of FCCLA, Green Education, and Earth Savers
have been working diligently on crafting clay bowls for the Empty Bowls Help for the Holidays event.
Please show your support by donating a can (or cans) of Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup for the cause,
or by volunteering the night of the event, and/or by donating $5. Each donor will be able to select a
handmade bowl for every $5 donation. All proceeds will go to a Sweetwater family in need. Please show
your support!

The Sweetwater Middle School PTSA would like to say "THANK YOU!" to all the students and
faculty that are making our Spirit Nights at Skate-A-Long USA a huge success. We had over 70
students participate in our first event. Another HUGE "Thank You! “goes to the our Super
Volunteer, Wendy Anderson, as well as our faculty, staff, and students for a successful Holiday
Shoppe. We raised over $200 for the school. We couldn't have done it without you.
Don't forget the deadline for the Holiday Meal Box donations and December Candy Grams is
Wednesday, December 18th.

Georgia Parent Survey
Estimados padres:
El 6 de enero el Georgia Parent Survey (Encuesta para los padres de Georgia) para el año escolar 2013
– 2014 estará disponible en la página de Internet de Sweetwater Middle School. Este es el primer año
que se administra esta encuesta. Las preguntas de la encuesta son similares las preguntas relacionadas

El PTSA de Sweetwater AGRADECE
El PTSA de Sweetwater Middle School quiere “AGRADECER” a todos los estudiantes y personal de
la escuela que hicieron del evento Spirit Night en Skate-A-Long USA un gran éxito. Más de 70
estudiantes participaron en nuestro primer evento. Otro gran agradecimiento va para nuestra
súper voluntaria Wendy Anderson al igual que para nuestro profesorado, personal y alumnos por
el éxito del Holiday Shoppe, recolectamos más de $200 para la escuela. Esto no hubiera sido
posible sin ustedes.
