PRODUCT ADIMAR cement mortar is manufactured using cement, selected marble aggregate, organic additives and resins to improve workability, in accordance with the technical specifications and essential requirements dictated by standard UNE-EN 12004. Compliance with these requirements entitles our products to carry the CE mark. The key characteristics defining ADIMAR are its high level of adhesion, considerable flexibility and deformability as required by the standard, with the utmost safety and guarantees in all applications for which it has been designed and manufactured by AYMAR. New fields of use for ceramic tiles and increased technical demands can no longer guarantee reliable adhesion even if using a sand and cement mortar. Traditional installations using this type of mortar employ very high absorption tiles of a small size, allowing for reasonable adhesion. In order better to understand the function of the adhesives, an explanation of what the phenomenon of adhesion comprises is required. It is in literal terms defined as the resistance to separation at the contact surface between two materials. As a result, the first condition which an adhesive must fulfil is to provide a bond between two materials, with tests being performed at various levels: initial adhesion, open time, ageing through immersion in water, frost/thaw cycles and the effects of heat. APPLICATIONS The range of adhesives is used to install ceramic tiles, stoneware, marble, natural stone… with or without absorption for both indoor and outdoor use, on substrates comprising self-levelling mortar, concrete or plasterboard, anhydrite flooring, on previous stoneware paving subject to heavy transit, on paving above underfloor heating or cooling systems and facade cladding. Thanks to its flexibility it can withstand thermal changes and minor differential movements caused by the substrate. In the event of any doubts, you should always consult our technical department. PRECAUTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE Do not apply in rainy conditions or with risk of frost. Do not apply at temperatures below +5° C or above 35° C Wind considerably reduces the open time of the product, thereby reducing adhesion. Dampen the substrates in the event of high heat or strong wind. In the case of underfloor heating, it must be switched off 48 hours before application. It is important to monitor the level of humidity in those substrates sensitive to the effects of water and humidity (for example if they are plaster-based), where the intention is to install materials which are not water-compatible, and those where the humidity contained could generate capillary pressure affecting continuity. It is important during installation to press down on the tiles to achieve proper compaction of each tile and avoid gaps between the tile and substrate. Protect ceramic cladding from dilation and contraction with sound elastic treatment for joints. During installation avoid the entry of water between the substrate and the material. Check that the substrate is level using a 2-metre ruler. The deviations should be less than 5 mm. Check that the substrate is consistent, is clean and dry, and that all inherent retractions have been performed. HIGH-QUALITY ADHESIVE adimar adhesivo cementoso o FLEXIBLE UNE-EN 12004 ADIMAR www.aymarsa.es Review date: August 8, 2014 METHOD OF USE Principles for proper installation: The thin layer installation technique is the most highly evolved, as it is adapted to current cladding materials (ceramic tile, marble, natural and artificial stone) and the different substrates and surfaces typically employed on site. NOTA: La información contenida en la presente ficha técnica está basada en nuestra experiencia y en ensayos realizados en laboratorios especializados. Si se incumplen estas condiciones no se alcanzarán las características arriba indicadas. In advance of installation, a prior levelling layer of mortar should have been applied to the substrate to achieve a properly flat surface. If this layer is required, it should be applied both to walls and floors. The main function of the adhesive is to achieve a strong, lasting and secure bond between the tile and the installation surface. The thin layer is generally obtained at thicknesses of no less than 5 mm and no greater than 15 mm. Application of a fine layer of the adhesive may be performed by means of single or double cementing. Single cementing: In the case of small-size cladding materials (<900 cm2) and if the requirements do not demand some other technique, a 5 mm-thick layer should be employed, applied to the substrate with the corresponding toothed trowel. Double cementing: For larger size materials (>900 cm2) solid compaction is required in order to guarantee full contact with the adhesive, and the reverse of the tile should also be spread with a layer of the adhesive, likewise applied using the toothed trowel. This achieves full transfer of the adhesive which will form a fully solid unit bonding the tile. It will also eliminate any gaps caused by the natural curvature of large-format tiles. For the cladding of outdoor surfaces or facades using materials with a format of above ≥ 900 cm2 and/or considerable weight (maximum 40 kg/m2) and at a height of more than 3 metres, safety staples or mechanical anchoring must be used in addition. PRODUCT PREPARATION Mix ADIMAR with clean water, using the quantity indicated on the technical datasheet, mixing by machine at 500 rpm to obtain a uniform and lump-free paste. Leave to rest for 5 minutes and then remix the paste. Insufficient or excess water could affect the final performance characteristics, and also make application of the product less effective. Leave to rest for 2 minutes and spread the mixture in a fine layer using the single cementing technique on the substrate, or double cementing on the substrate and the cladding, over small areas of 2 metres, combing with the trowel to adjust the thickness, checking that a surface film preventing adhesion has not formed; if it has, the layer should be combed again with the trowel. The material should be installed by pressing strongly until the grooves have been flattened, periodically checking the adhesion of the paste by lifting the previously cemented piece up. Throughout application, respect structural, perimeter and intermediate joints and installation joints; the latter should be at least 1.5 mm for indoor applications and 5 mm for outdoor applications. Grout the installation joints 24 hours after the installation process using ADIMAR UNIVERSAL GROUT. CEMENT ADHESIVE REGULATIONS European standard UNE EN-12004 allows for uniform classification throughout Europe. One of the specific purposes of the regulation is to guarantee the durability of different ceramic cladding installation systems, with the mandatory requirement that all such products should bear the CE mark. The adhesive is of fundamental importance in this process, as it is responsible for establishing adhesion between the cladding and the substrate.
