 Casa Cultural de las Americas (CCA), founded in August of 2012 by Dr. Elizabeth Quila Hussmann, is an important cultural proposal that has as its main objective to preserve, promote, foster, research and disseminate art, science and other aspects of the American cultural patrimony. Its goal is to strengthen the identity of all Americans living in the continent. CCA resolves to be a referring source at the national and international level with a staff committed with high ethical and moral professionalism. CCA promotes all artistic, scientific and cultural matters benefiting the American community. The countries involved in the launching of this endeavor are: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republican, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela Our development plan is based on the assembling of all kinds of artistic and cultural aspects to be carried out by different committees. Mario Vargas Llosa
Mario Vargas Llosa was born in Arequipa, and also spent parts of his youth in Cochabamba (Bolivia), Piura in northern Peru and Lima. He made his debut as a novelist with The Time of the Hero (1962), set in Leoncio Prado military Academy, where he had been a student. The book received an immediate international recognition. His many other works include the novels Conversation in The Cathedral, The Real Life of Alejandro Mayta, Who Killed Palomino Molero?, The Storyteller, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, The Feast of the Goat, The Bad Girl, The Dream of the Celt, The Discreet Hero and the theatre plays La Chunga, Kathie and the Hippopotamus, The Young Lady from Tacna, among others. He has also published several books of essays. He writes for El País (Piedra de Toque), and the cultural magazine Letras Libres (Extemporáneos) published in Mexico and in Spain. His books have been translated into more than forty languages. Mario Vargas Llosa has also been an outspoken participant in the world of politics, as a prolific essayist and candidate for elected office. He has received a long list of prestigious literary awards, including the Leopoldo Alas Prize (1959), the Rómulo Gallegos Prize (1967), the National Critics' Prize (1967), the Critics' Annual Prize for Theatre (1981), the Prince of Asturias Prize (1986), the Miguel de Cervantes Prize (1994) -­‐-­‐ the Spanish-­‐speaking world's most distinguished literary honor, the Jerusalem Prize (1995), the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade (1996), the PEN/Nabokov Award (2002), the Nobel Prize (2010) and many Doctor Honoris Causa degrees from the most prestigious universities. Carlos J. Aldazábal, is one of the best argentineans contemporary poets. He won the prestigious poetry award “Alhambra de Poesía Americana (Granada, Spain), and the first Poetry Prize: “Primer Premio Regional de Poesía (NOA) de la Secretaría de Cultura de la Argentina” and the “Primer Premio del II Concurso “Identidad, de las huellas a la palabra”, organized by the “ Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo”. He has published the following books of poetry: La soberbia del monje (1996, subsidio de la Fundación Antorchas), Por qué queremos ser Quevedo (1999), Nadie enduela su voz como plegaria (2003), El caserío (2007), Heredarás la tierra (2007), El banco está cerrado (2010), Hain, el mundo selknam en poesía e historieta (with illustrations by Eleonora Kortsarz, 2012), Piedra al pecho (2013) and Las visitas de siempre (2014). His poetry has been partially translated into English, Arabic and Italian; and included in fundamental anthologies such as: Poesía ante la incertidumbre. Nuevos poetas en español (2011), edited in Spain and several Latin American countries by Visor. Colombia
Andrea Cote-­‐Botero is the author of the poetry collections: Port in Ashes, Fragile Things, Chinatown 24 hours (Object Book) and La Ruina que Nombro. She has also published books of prose: A Nude Photographer: A Biography of Tina Modotti and Blanca Varela or Writing From Solitude. She has obtained the following recognitions: The National Prize of Poetry from the Universidad Externado of Colombia (2003), the Puentes de Struga International Poetry Prize (2005) and the Cittá de Castrovillari Prize (2010) to the italian edition of Port in Ashes. Her poems have been translated into English, French, German, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese, Macedonian, Arabic, Polish and Greek.
Ecuador
Gabriel Cisneros Abedrabbo (Latacunga – Ecuador, 1972) is a writer, journalist, and cultural promoter. At a very early age he moved to Riobamba where he grew as a person, and as a writer in this yet unfinished journey. Mr. Cisneros has published serveral books of poetry: Ceremonias de amor y otros rituales (1996), Ego de piel y Cópula panteísta (2003), El otro Dios que soy Yo y Ombligo al infierno (2004), Mujeres para Morir (2005), Peregrinaje y Raptos (2006), Para Justificar el Aire en los Pulmones (2009), 20 Giros en la Pólvora y Otros Textos (2010), Mi Yo Malo 2012, y Pieles (2014). His poems have also appeared in journals home and abroad. Gabriel Cisneros served as President of the Chimborazo branch of Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana Benjamín Carrión, and he is currently Vice-­‐President of Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana nationwide. Alí Calderón (Mexico City, 1982) is a Mexican poet and literary critic. He earned a doctorate in Mexican Letters at UNAM. He teaches Latin American literature and theory at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. Co-­‐
founder and main editor of the most read online poetry journal of the hispanic world, Círculo de Poesía. He received the National Poetry Award Ramón López Velarde (2004) and Premio Latinoamericano de Poesía Benemérito de América (2007). He is the author of the poetry books Imago prima, Ser en el mundo, De naufragios y rescates, En agua rápida, Las correspondencias, and the collections of essays La generación de los cincuenta; Del poema al transtexto. Ensayos para leer poesía mexicana; Reinventar el lirismo. Problemas actuales de poética. He is editor of several poetry anthologies: La luz que va dando nombre 1965-­‐1985. Veinte años de la poesía última en México, El oro ensortijado and Poesía viva de México. He was elected by 200 critics as one of the five most representative poets under 40 years old. He is editor of Valparaíso México Press and manage, with Mario Bojórquez, the Mexico City Poetry festival. Perú
Efraín Kristal is professor and chair of UCLA’s Department of Comparative Literature. He is author of several books and over one hundred scholarly articles, book chapters and prologues. He is honorary professor at the Universidad del Pacífico in his native Peru. His work on Mario Vargas Llosa includes Temptation of the Word. The Novels of Mario Vargas Llosa (1998); and The Cambridge Companion to Mario Vargas Llosa (2012) co-­‐edited with John King.
Uruguay
Martha L. Canfield is Full Professor of Spanish American Literature at the University of Florence. She is the author of Donne allo specchio. Racconti ispanoamericani fra Ottocento e Novecento (Le Lettere, Florence 1997) and Literatura Hispanoamericana. Historia y antología, vol 1 Prehispánica y colonial (Hoepli, Milan 2009). She has also written extensively on contemporary Spanish American poetry and narrative, specially about Borges, Cortázar, García Márquez, César Vallejo, Jorge Eduardo Eielson, Álvaro Mutis, and others). She is a poet in her own right and she writes in Spanish and in Italian. An anthology of her poetry was edited by Margara Russotto: Sonriendo en el camino. 1969-­‐2009, Montevideo, 2011.
She founded the Centro Study Jorge Eielson in September 2006, of which she is president and Mario Vargas Llosa Director of the Scientific Committee United States
Madeline Millán is a writer, professor and translator. Her poetry books are: Para no morir por segunda vez (Buenos Aires, 2002). De toros y estrellas (Terranova, Puerto Rico (2004), Leche/Milk (2008, National Poetry Award 2009 by the Puerto Rican PEN, 365 esquinas (Puerto Rico, 2009) and Día Cero (Puerto Rico, 2012), and Contracantos: Del aire a la rosa (Lima/Perú, 2013, Honorable Mention of the National Poetry Award , Puerto Rican PEN). She host bilingual poetry readings at Cornelia Street Café. On 2009 she edited the bilingual and multicultural anthology Noches de Cornelia/Cornelia Nights, in which she translated 3 of the poets. She have been invited to International poetry festivals in: Argentina, Colombia, Chile, México, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Peru, and Spain. She appears in different anthologies. Her most recent work can be read in anthologies from Spain and Latin America. Millán was the editor and publisher of a Latin American Film magazine, Entreextremos. At the present, she is the creator and director of the international and itinerant poetry events of Echo of Voices, under the New York Foundation for the Arts, offering workshops in emerging communities of Latin America, United States and Spain.
