Mass Intentions
If you would like to have a Mass offered for a particular
intention or for someone who has died, please call the
parish office. The stipend for the Mass is $10. Our office
staff will help you to find a date and time for the Mass.
I want you to know that I am very well pleased with and thankful to the 130th Foundation Anniversary
working committee, the parish staff, the Administration and Pastoral Councils, the Liturgy Committee, the
Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Daughters, the donors, and all the volunteers. Our anniversary celebration
and annual picnic were festive and fun. Thanks, too, to Archbishop Alexander Sample for gracing our occasion
and for inspiring us with your presence and with your words.

This weekend starts our formation for the pre-schoolers, children, middle schoolers, and youth. Also
we will start the formation of those preparing for first communion and confirmation. Our formation teams and
catechists are ready and prepared for this new year of faith journey. Discover and meet Christ. Grow in God’s
love and be great before the Lord.
This year’s Catechetical Sunday theme is “Safeguarding the dignity of every human person”.
o0o
Here is an excerpt from a prayer for catechists, which I got from the USCCB 2012 Catechetical
Sunday.
O God, our Heavenly Father,
you have given us the gift of these catechists
to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family.
We lift them up to you in thanksgiving
and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs.
May we be attentive to the presence
of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up
and affirms, calls forth and challenges,
is compassionate and consoles.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

The cross is the wood that Jesus Christ was hung and crucified for our redemption. Christ’s cross is our
Christian identity. When we pray, we begin and end by making the sign of the cross. According to Catholic
Say, “The sign of the cross reminds the faithful of the cross of salvation while invoking the Holy Trinity. The
sign of the cross is a sacramental, a sacred sign instituted by the Church which prepares a person to receive
grace and which sanctifies a moment or circumstance.”

Descubriendo y conociendo a Cristo.
Oh Dios, nuestro Padre Celestial,

The Anniversary Mass and Picnic was a great success!
Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a hit.
It was a big job, to undertake, but SO many people volunteered their time and resources to help us pull it
off. We truly appreciate the help of every person. Below is our best shot at listing everyone who helped.
Our apologies to anyone we missed.

’TIS THE GIFT TO BE SIMPLE
The Shaker hymn describes a circular journey from
innocence to innocence with characteristic brevity:
’Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free.
’Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be.
This journey is easier sung about than done. It takes
humility and time to recover a second innocence. Titles,
positions of honor, money, and power are not requirements of the kingdom of God. Jesus says and demonstrates in today’s Gospel that members of God’s kingdom
must hold in their embrace the most inconsequential of
persons, for that person is identified with Jesus. This
attitude ran counter to the intuition of the world of Jesus’
time, as it does in ours.
The simplicity set forth by Jesus requires the shedding
of unnecessary, unimportant, false, and burdensome attachments that earthly power demands. Membership in
the Kingdom is light enough to put a song in our heart.

TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — The wicked say: With revilement and
torture let us put the just one to the test
(Wisdom 2:12, 17-20).
Psalm — The Lord upholds my life (Psalm 54).
Second Reading — The wisdom from above is full of mercy
and good fruits (James 3:16 — 4:3).
Gospel — Whoever receives one child such as this in my
name, receives me (Mark 9:30-37).

OUR BEST
The more the world is at its worst, the more we need
the Church at its best.
inocencia.

trae consigo muchas bendiciones
(Santiago 3:16 — 4:3).
(Marcos 9:30-37).
