Stupendous Red Ribbon Week
By Jacklyn DelToro
Red Ribbon Week is
about a DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) agent who was
kidnapped and murdered in 1985 by a drug
cartel. The DEA agents
name was Kiki Camarena. Mr. Camarena
had been working undercover in Mexico
when he was murdered.
DEA investigators revealed that Camarena
was tortured before he
was murdered. After he
was murdered people in
Camaren's town decorated their town with red
ribbons in his honor.
To students Red Ribbon
Week means Drug and
Bully free. The main
type of bulling in our
school is name calling.
CES had its annual Red
Ribbon Week. The student's favorite activities
were the costumes, neon
clothing and the red
shirts. The students like
the red shirts because
they get to wear their
favorite color. Students
also liked wearing neon
because they like bright
colors. On Monday students got to wear mixed
matched clothes. On
Tuesday they got to wear
bright clothes and on
Wednesday red shirts. On
Thursday the students liked
•
the costumes because they got to
dress up like their favorite super
hero. On Friday they got to wear
silly hats. My opinion is that Red
Ribbon Week is awesome because
we get to dress up in unusual
clothes.

The Outstanding Eco-Copier
By Caleb Martinez
All staff members benefit from the amazing ecocopier because they save
money and ink. The generous company of Toshiba, donated the ecocopier to Canutillo Elementary and another
school in EPISD. Our
school got this fantastic
eco-copier about 2
months ago. Mainly the
office and GT students
use the magnificent ecocopier. This special ecocopier only reuses blue
ink. This terrific ecocopier has an entrance
on the top where the paper goes in, then, the
paper goes inside and
through the 3-foot high
copier. When the small
shelf on the bottom
opens, the paper is inserted there; this is
where all the ink is
~.Ireuse that same paper
~!'-er wiped off. Now you can

into the machine. Finally, you insert it and the
ink that was saved inside another part of the
eco-copier is used to
print out the new paper!
I want to invite all
•..,.teachers to use the ecocopier so you can recycle. I think the eco-copier is a
great way for schools to save money and ink.
The Brave & Skillful Veterans
Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11, this is the first year Canutillo Elementary School held-no
classes. A veteran is a person who
has been in the armed forces and
have fought in wars. Some veterans
have participated in World War I
and World War II and the Persia~
War. Veterans are very brave to
have fought for our freedom. In
1919, President Woodrow Wilson
declared November 11 as a holiday.
Back then they called it Armistice
Day which meant to stop fighting.
In 1954 the name Armistice was
changed to Veterans Day.
by Arlyn Carrillo
Here at CES we honored several
veterans, one of them is Mr. Evans
who has been involved in the Army
for 5 years, from 1969-1973, he is
now retired. Another veteran is Mr.
Carrillo, he is a very brave man because he was saving lives during
9/11. Mr. Rangel, a veteran, had a
friend who passed away during Afghanistan war, Mrs. Beltran, another brave veteran, has been stationed
in many locations including at
Baghdad, Iraq and Kuwait. Mr.
Want, a strong veteran, says he
cannot complain about his health
benefits. I
think we
are home of the free because of the
EI Nue~o Profesor de Kinder, el Sr. Moreno
Por Luis Angel Bermudez
A Sr. Moreno 10cambiaron de Bill
Childress porque Sr. Gonzalez de
Kinder tenia muchos alumnos. Eso
de que cambiaron a Mr. Moreno fue
muy bueno para todos los que 10
conozcan. El Sr. Moreno quiso ser
maestro porque era su vocacion
algunos de sus familiares fueron'
maestros tambien.

Tambien ensena a 10s

Mrs. Dayrit has been living
in the US for 12 years and
has 3 boys. Her favorite
music is pop and her favorite food is Asian and Mexican food. Mrs. Dayrit if from
the country of the Philippines,
located in southeast Asia. Both
of her parents were educators
and they influenced her to be a
teacher. Mrs. Dayrit has been
a teacher for 25 years. She
graduated with a Bachelor in
Elementary Education at Holy
Angel University. Mrs. Dayrit e
has worked at many schools,
Holy Family Academy
(Philippines), Presidio and Canutillo Elementary Schools. My
opinion is that Mrs. Dayrit is a
very studios person and she
likes to learn many things.

A Delighted Thanksgiving
The first Thanksgiving was on
1621and was called the Green
Corn Festival; this was after the
Indians taught the pilgrims how
to farm and fish. Thanksgiving
and turkey go together because
the first thing pilgrims hunted
was a turkey and the pilgrims and
Indians ate it for 3 days in a row.
In 1863, Lincoln declared a national Thanksgiving holiday because Sarah Hale, a writer, wrote
about the pilgrims and wanted a

Thanksgiving holiday.
Some people come from other
countries, states, and cities to celebrate with their family and
friends Thanksgiving. I celebrate
Thanksgiving by making a feast
and my family and friends come
and enjoy. Mrs. Gloria's, CES

cranberry, mashed potatoes, while
they watch football. Mr. Gonzales

Terrifying Halloween
Halloween started long ago in
1867 in a little place called Lillian,
Pennsylvania. People thought that
in November 2nd people from the
death would come to life. Also in
October 31st they had a tradition
of giving food, wine and money
instead of candy. In Halloween
they would dress-up thinking that
the ghosts would not know they
were humans.

with his family. The cafeteria this
year will serve on Thursday, November 19th its annual Thanksgiving luncheon. They will serve
oven roasted turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn bread
stuffing, buttered green beans,
cranberry relish, warm wet rolls,
and pumpkin pies. During the
Thanksgiving break Mrs. Moreno

warehouses, Peter Piper Pizza,
Western Playland, and haunted
houses. A lot of kids love going
trick-o-treating because they like
candy and dressing up. Kids like
to dress up like Elsa, from Frozen
because they like that movie. Other students like to dress as angels
because they are good. Boys like
Ironman because he flies, girls
like Blanca Nieves because they
like her movie. Some kids are
scared of Chuckie, zombies, skele-
tons, ghosts, boogieman, and
Cloud. Halloween is an awesome
holiday because you get candy
and you get to dress up.
