FIVE POINTS STATION
The Five Points MARTA station is in the heart
of downtown Atlanta and serves as the transfer
point between all rail lines. The station contains
MARTA’s Reduced Fare and Lost & Found office
and a RideStore. Nearby destinations include the
Fairlie-Poplar Historic District, Georgia State University, Underground Atlanta, Woodruff Park, and
special events such as the annual German Bierfest and New Year’s Eve Peach Drop. Buses that
depart the station travel to The Carter Center,
Turner Field, Virginia Highland and Zoo Atlanta.

Malls
Lenox Square and Perimeter malls are both
next to MARTA. Exit at the Lenox and Dunwoody stations. Macy’s and the Apple Store are
at these locations.
Bookstores
Barnes and Noble is located near the North Avenue and Midtown stations in Tech Square on
5th Street. A second location is in the Edgewood Retail District near the Inman Park station. For children’s books, visit the Little Shop of
Stories right above the Decatur MARTA station
on the Court House Square.
Discount Store
A Walmart Supercenter is located just around
the corner from the Ashby MARTA station off
MLK Jr. Drive and near the Chamblee Station.
Sporting Goods
Sports Authority is located in the shopping center next to the Sandy Springs MARTA station,
while REI is located down the street on Perimeter Center West.
Electronics
Best Buy is in walking distance of the Dunwoody, Inman Park and Lindbergh Center

MARTA Questions Answered
Q: Is Clayton County going to pay a higher
fare than the current MARTA customers?
A: Everyone will pay the same fare to ride
MARTA.
Q: Will Clayton County have a voice on
MARTA’s Board of Directors?
A: Yes. Clayton County will get two voting
members on the MARTA Board, and they will
start their terms in January 2015.
Q: .Will Clayton County ever have more than
buses?
A: Yes. MARTA will continue to explore highcapacity transit options for Clayton County,
including commuter rail or bus-rapid transit.
Q: When will Clayton County have bus
service?
A: By March 2015, Clayton County will have
limited bus service. New routes will continue
to be added with full bus service available by
July 2016.
Q: What are MARTA’s holiday hours?
A: MARTA will be on Sunday schedule
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Thanksgiving day rail service is scheduled to
start at 5 a.m. to accommodate the Atlanta
Track Club’s Half-Marathon and 5K races. The
Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and
the day after Christmas will be on a modified
Saturday schedule.
Q: Will MARTA run late on New Year’s Eve?
A: Yes. To accommodate crowds at downtown
events, MARTA will operate trains until
approximately 2 a.m.
Q: How much money does MARTA get from
fares?
A: In fiscal year 2014, fare revenue accounted for
22 percent of MARTA’s income. MARTA also
receives income from a local sales taxes and
the federal government.

MARTA’s Transit-Oriented
Developments Moving Forward
If you have wanted to live closer to MARTA, you’ll
have more options to choose from in the near future. Five transit-oriented developments (TOD) are
underway at several MARTA stations, all of which
will feature housing and commercial space. Here
are the updates on each project:
Oakland City Station
MARTA is working with the City of Atlanta and the
Atlanta Regional Commission to facilitate a community planning process for an Oakland City Station TOD. An initial kick-off meeting and design
charrette are complete. Goals of the project include incorporating community priorities, providing a connection to Ft. McPherson and clarifying
nearby land use and zoning.

Edgewood/Candler Park Station
Negotiations are underway with Invest Atlanta
and Columbia Ventures/Columbia Residential, the
developer. MARTA has hosted several meetings
with residents of the Edgewood and Candler Park
communities regarding the rezoning of the south
lots where the TOD will be built. Construction is
expected to commence in mid-2015.
December has been milestone month in MARTA’s history. The west rail line opened with service from Five Points to H.E. Holmes in December 1979. Two years later in December 1981,
service on the north/south lines began between
the Garnett and North Avenue stations. In December 1982, the north line extended to the
Arts Center station and in December 1984, rail
extended from Lakewood to Brookhaven.
Avondale Station
Negotiations have been finalized with Columbia
Ventures for the Avondale project that will include
approximately 530 apartments, including 116 affordable senior independent living units, 74 condominiums and 25,000 square feet of commercial space. The site plan features a central plaza,
which will serve as an amenity for residents, transit riders and the surrounding community. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-2015.
What’s the fifth station? Is it King Memorial? I only
counted four.

Ponce City Market to Offer MARTA Shuttle
Atlanta’s much anticipated redevelopment project, Ponce City Market is now leasing apartments
and a number of restaurants are set to open in
spring 2015. To help residents commute easier
on transit, Ponce City Market will provide shuttle
service to and from the North Avenue MARTA station. Bus 2 and 102, depart from North Avenue,
and also stop out front.

On election night, Clayton County citizens voted overwhelming to join MARTA, marking what
will be the first jurisdictional expansion of the
transit system since its inception more than 40
years ago.
“This is a historic moment for MARTA, Clayton
County and the region,” said MARTA Board
Chair Robert L. Ashe III. “On behalf of my fellow
board members, I want to thank the voters of
Clayton County who have demonstrated their
confidence in MARTA to deliver high-quality
transit service to their community. We are humbled and grateful for the opportunity to prove
once again that MARTA is well worth the public
investment.”
Earlier this year, the Clayton County Commission voted to put the binding MARTA referendum on the November ballot. Many Clayton
County residents had been clamoring to join
MARTA after budget cuts forced the shutdown
of the C-Tran bus system in 2010.
“Officially welcoming Clayton is an incredible
anniversary present for MARTA as we continue
to celebrate 35 years of combined bus and rail
service in metro Atlanta,” said MARTA GM/CEO
Keith T. Parker. “Starting as soon as March
2015, MARTA will bring affordable, reliable transit customer-focused service to the citizens of
Clayton County.”
Collection of the 1 percent sales tax will begin in
March 2015, with three bus routes and complementary paratransit scheduled to begin service.
MARTA will host public hearings on December
4th 7.00pm at Clayton County Administration
Building on proposed routes and services before
they are finalized.

COMBINED BUS AND RAIL SERVICE FOR THIRTY-FIVE
Estación de Lakewood/Ft. McPherson
Diciembre ha sido el mes de hitos en la historia de
MARTA. La ruta oeste del metro abrió con un servicio
de Five Points a H.E. Holmes en diciembre de 1979.
Dos años más tarde, en diciembre de 1981, el servicio
de las rutas Norte-Sur comenzó entre las estaciones
de Garnett y North Avenue. En diciembre de 1982,
la ruta norte se extendió a la estación de Arts Center
