Bishop Griffin Center Donations Update: Thanks to everyone who
has been donating to the center for those who are less fortunate. In
August we will be collecting laundry detergent. When you are at the
store, please pick up extra detergent and drop it in the box in the
vestibule. The Bishop Griffin Center helps hundreds of families each
month. Your kind donation is very much appreciated. The St. Vincent
de Paul collection on the second Sunday of each month is also an
opportunity to donate to the Bishop Griffin Center. Thanks!

August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin
Mary. It is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year because the solemnity
falls on a Monday. We will have our normal 7:00 a.m. English Mass that
day, as well as as a 7:00 p.m. bilingual Mass. The bilingual Mass will be
celebrated by our visiting missionary priest, Fr. César Santa Cruz.
Please consider praying with us on August 15 as we honor our Blessed
Mother.

I want to begin by expressing my gratitude to everyone who
participated in the pilgrimage to the cathedral and the parish picnic.
Last Saturday, more than one hundred people from Christ the King
traveled to St. Joseph Cathedral and passed through the Holy Door
there. We had the opportunity to experience the beauty of that
exquisite church and pray together as pilgrims. It was a moving,
memorable moment for me as pastor.
Quiero empezar expresando mi agradecimiento a todos los que
participaron en la peregrinación a la catedral y en el picnic parroquial.
El sábado pasado, más de cien personas de Christ the King viajaron
a la catedral San José y pasaron por la Puerta Santa. Tuvimos la
oportunidad de experimentar la belleza de esa hermosa iglesia y orar
juntos como peregrinos. Fue un momento poderoso y memorable
para mí como párroco.
The following day our community continued celebrating its seventieth
year anniversary at our annual parish picnic. The tent was full of
parishioners that afternoon – many of whom were wearing their green
Christ the King tee-shirts! I think everyone enjoyed the food and
fellowship, music and games. Of course, I am tremendously grateful
for everyone who contributed to the success of the picnic, especially
the members of Parish Council. Their dedication to our parish family
is remarkable.
Al día siguiente nuestra comunidad continuó celebrando su 70
aniversario en nuestro picnic parroquial anual. La carpa estuvo llena
de feligreses esa tarde - ¡muchos de los cuales llevaban su camiseta
verde de Christ the King! Creo que todo el mundo disfrutó la comida,
la convivencia, la música y los juegos. Por supuesto, estoy
profundamente agradecido con todos los que contribuyeron al éxito

This is the final weekend at Christ the King for our summer
seminarian, Brett Garland. Brett has worked hard for the past ten
weeks and has gained experience that will serve him well in his future
ministry in the Diocese of Columbus. Personally speaking, I have
found Brett’s presence to be encouraging, inspiring within me a desire
to become an even better priest. My hope is that Brett will be able to
escape the seminary in October in order to help guide our parish
pilgrimage to Washington, D.C., a trip he himself organized and
planned.
Este es el último fin de semana en Christ the King para nuestro
seminarista del verano, Brett Garland. Brett ha trabajado duro las
últimas diez semanas y ha adquirido experiencia que le servirá en su
futuro ministerio en la Diócesis de Columbus. En lo personal, he

Next weekend, we host Father César Santa Cruz. Father César is a
priest of the Missionary Fraternity of Mary. He was ordained a priest
at the Cathedral of Guatemala City on August 28, 2010, and is
currently the Secretary General of his order. He also teaches Latin,
English, Greek, and philosophy in their seminary in Guatemala.
Please welcome Fr. César and kindly support the work of the
Missionary Fraternity of Mary.

P. César es un sacerdote de la Fraternidad Misionera de María. Fue
ordenado sacerdote en la catedral de la ciudad de Guatemala el 28

What is the Missionary Fraternity of Mary? The Missionary
Fraternity of Mary is an order of priests within the Roman Catholic
Church dedicated to educating and ordaining young men to bring the
Good News and the sacraments to the marginalized Catholics of the
world. They also educate the poor, prepare youth for lay ministry, and
develop the spiritual and temporal wellbeing of those they serve.
There are over one hundred fifty ordained priests in the Missionary
Fraternity of Mary who work in sixty-four missions in eleven countries.
Mission sites are established where there are no clergy available to
fulfill pastoral needs, particularly in parts of the world steeped in
poverty. Next weekend, please give generously to the Missionary

Church Picnic Thanks: We had an outstanding event with great food
and fun. We liked the party music with Aurelio, too. Thanks to
everyone who volunteered their time to set-up, donate food, and clean
up. The pig was delicious, thanks to the work of the Knights of
Columbus. The Women’s Club, Parish Council, St. Vincent DePaul
and many individuals made significant donations. And congratulations
to Dennis Fogarty who won the 50/50 drawing.

70th Anniversary Tee Shirts Update: We have a limited number of
tee shirts left and we will have them on sale next weekend (August
13-14), until they are sold out. If you haven’t picked up your tee shirt
that you ordered, they will be available that weekend also.
We will be hosting a Protecting God’s Children training on
Saturday, August 13, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the church
basement. This training will be conducted in Spanish only. Please

Year of Mercy: Pilgrimage to Washington, D.C.! We are planning a
pilgrimage to several Catholic shrines in Washington, D.C. We will
leave from Christ the King on Friday, Oct. 14, at 5:30 a.m. and return
late on Saturday, Oct. 15. Cost: $200 per person, shared double
occupancy or $250 per person single room. The price includes
chartered motor coach to and from D.C., hotel accommodations and
dinner for Oct. 14, hot breakfast at hotel, driver gratuity, and all guided
