with Christ and listening to His call to share our gifts with others.
Estamos muy agradecidos por el apoyo de todos nuestros parroquianos
que han sido tan generosos. Esta es nuestra oportunidad de una vez al
año para mostrar a la Diócesis nuestro apoyo - y hemos hecho
exactamente eso. Gracias por su ayuda en este esfuerzo tan importante

SCALABRINI ASSEMBLY: From Monday, April 28 to May 1st, the
Religious Staff of Holy Cross will be attending their Annual Assembly
of the Scalabrinian Fathers and Brothers in Dallas, TX. We ask our
parishioners for their prayers for a successful and fruitful Assembly.
Queridos Amigos Parroquianos,
Estamos celebrando hoy el Segundo Domingo de Pascua;
en el Evangelio de hoy escuchamos la reacción del
apóstol Tomás a la "buena noticia, "que Jesús estaba
vivo: “¡Tengo que ver y tocarlo para creer!” Ésta es
también una reacción común de la gente en nuestros
días, "Creo cuando veo". Jesús dijo: "Bienaventurados
los que no vieron, y creyeron.
Hoy el Papa Francisco preside la Santa Misa por la
canonización del Beato Juan XXIII y Juan Pablo II en la
Plaza de San Pedro en el Vaticano.
En este último par de décadas, este segundo domingo de
Pascua es también llamado el Domingo de la Divina
Misericordia y algunos de nosotros estamos tocados por
esta devoción.
El próximo jueves será el día 1º de mayo, mes dedicado a
María, la Madre de Nuestro Señor; les invitamos a rezar
el rosario y otras devociones Marianas.

Questa settimana è la settimana della gioia: celebriamo la Risurrezione di Gesù.È una gioia vera, profonda, basata sulla certezza che Cristo
risorto ormai non muore più, ma è vivo e operante nella Chiesa e nel mondo. Tale certezza abita nel cuore dei credenti da quel mattino di
Pasqua, quando le donne andarono al sepolcro di Gesù e gli angeli dissero loro: «Perché cercate tra i morti colui che è vivo?» (Lc 24,5).
“Perché cercate tra i morti colui che è vivo?” Queste parole sono come una pietra miliare nella storia; ma anche una “pietra d’inciampo”, se
non ci apriamo alla Buona Notizia, se pensiamo che dia meno fastidio un Gesù morto che un Gesù vivo! Invece quante volte, nel nostro
cammino quotidiano, abbiamo bisogno di sentirci dire: “Perché stai cercando tra i morti colui che è vivo?”. Quante volte noi cerchiamo la
vita fra le cose morte, fra le cose che non possono dare vita, fra le cose che oggi sono e domani non saranno più, le cose che passano…

Bishop Wojtyła took part in the Second Vatican Council (19621965) and made a significant contribution to the drafting of the
Constitution Gaudium et Spes. He also took part in the five
assemblies of the Synod of Bishops prior to the start of his
Pontificate. On 16 October 1978, Cardinal Wojtyła was elected
Pope and on 22 October he began his ministry as universal Pastor
of the Church. Pope John Paul II made 146 pastoral visits in Italy
and, as the Bishop of Rome; he visited 317 of the current 322
Roman parishes. His international apostolic journeys numbered 104
and were expressions of the constant pastoral solicitude of the
Successor of Peter for all the Churches. His principal documents
include 14 Encyclicals, 15 Apostolic Exhortations, 11 Apostolic
Constitutions and 45 Apostolic Letters. He also wrote five books:
Crossing the Threshold of Hope (October 1994); Gift and Mystery: On
the Fiftieth Anniversary of My Priestly Ordination (November 1996);
Roman Triptych, meditations in poetry (March 2003); Rise, Let Us Be
on Our Way (May 2004) and Memory and Identity (February 2005).
Participó en el Concilio Vaticano II (1962-1965), contribuyendo
especialmente en la elaboración de la constitución Gaudium et spes.
El Cardenal Wojtyla participó en las 5 asambleas del Sínodo de los
Obispos, anteriores a su Pontificado. Fue elegido Papa el 16 de
octubre de 1978 y el 22 de octubre dio inicio a su ministerio como
Pastor Universal de la Iglesia. El Papa Juan Pablo II realizó 146
visitas pastorales en Italia y, como Obispo de Roma, visito 317 de
las 332 parroquias con que cuenta Roma en la actualidad. Realizó
104 viajes apostólicos por el mundo, expresión de la constante
solicitud pastoral del Sucesor de Pedro por todas las Iglesias. Entre
sus principales documentos se encuentran 14 Encíclicas, 15
Exhortaciones apostólicas, 11 Constituciones apostólicas y 45
Cartas apostólicas. Al Papa Juan Pablo II se deben también 5 libros:
Cruzando el umbral de la esperanza (octubre de 1994); Don y misterio:
en el quincuagésimo aniversario de mi sacerdocio (noviembre de
1996); Tríptico romano, meditaciones en forma de poesía (marzo de
2003); ¡Levantaos! ¡vamos! (mayo de 2004) y Memoria e identidad
(febrero de 2005).

He was elected Pope on 28 October 1958, taking the name John XXIII. In the
five years of his pontificate he appeared to the world as an authentic image of
the Good Shepherd. Meek and gentle, resourceful and courageous, simple and
ever active, he undertook various corporal and spiritual works of mercy,
visiting prisoners and the sick, welcoming people of all nations and religions,
demonstrating an exquisite sense of fatherhood to everyone. His social
magisterium was contained in the Encyc1icals Mater et Magistra (1961) and
Pacem in Terris (1963). He convoked the Synod of Rome, instituted the
Commission for the Revision of the Code of Canon Law, and convened the
Second Vatican Ecumenical Council. As Bishop of Rome, he visited parishes
and churches in the historical centre and in the outskirts. People saw in him a
reflection of benignitas evangelica and called him the "good Pope". A
profound spirit of prayer sustained him. He embodied, as the driving force
behind a movement of renewal of the Church, the peace of one who trusts
completely in the Lord. He advanced resolutely along the paths of
evangelization, ecumenism and dialogue, and showed a paternal concern to
reach out to those of his children most in need.
Fue elegido Papa el 28 de octubre de 1958, y tomó el nombre de Juan XXIII.
En sus cinco años como Papa, el mundo entero pudo ver en él una imagen
auténtica del Buen Pastor. Humilde y atento, decidido y valiente, sencillo y
activo, practicó los gestos cristianos de las obras de misericordia corporales y
espirituales, visitando a los encarcelados y a los enfermos, acogiendo a
personas de cualquier nación y credo, comportándose con todos con un
admirable sentido de paternidad. Su magisterio social está contenido en las
Encíclicas Mater et magistra (1961) y Pacem in terris (1963). Convocó el
Sínodo Romano, instituyó la Comisión para la revisión del Código de Derecho
Canónico, convocó el Concilio Ecuménico Vaticano II. Como Obispo de la
diócesis de Roma, visitó parroquias e iglesias del centro histórico y de la
periferia. El pueblo veía en él un rayo de la benignitas evangelica y lo llamaba
“el Papa de la bondad”. Lo sostenía un profundo espíritu de oración; siendo el
iniciador de la renovación de la Iglesia, irradiaba la paz de quien confía
siempre en el Señor. Se lanzó decididamente por los caminos de la
evangelización, del ecumenismo, del diálogo con todos, teniendo la
preocupación paternal de llegar a sus hermanos e hijos más afligidos.
