A new Addition to St. Joseph Cathedral
Welcome Pat Robell
New Music Director
We are excited and blessed to welcome Pat Robell
to our parish staff as Parish Music Director. He
comes to us from Cathedral Catholic High School
and past music ministry at St. James Cathedral in
Seattle. You might have gotten a taste of his talents
as he directed the music this past year here at our
Holy Thursday and Easter Vigil liturgies with Bishop McElroy. It was MAGNIFICENT! He will help
us to build upon the wonderful music ministry here
at St. Joseph Cathedral and our goals are lofty as we
move forward. We want a Cathedral Choir that will
bring glory to God and a children’s choir that will
help our young ones to come to love the liturgy
through sacred music. Pat will begin on July 15th
and we are excited about what the future holds.
Please join me in a hearty welcome to our newest
parish staff member. Welcome Pat!
A new Priest in Residence
Welcome Fr. Pedro Rivera
here at St. Joseph Cathedral
We welcome Fr. Pedro Rivera who will begin living
in residence here at St. Joseph Cathedral. Fr. Pedro
has served as diocesan Vocations Director for the

will direct the Newman Center at San Diego State
University. Fr. Pedro will also help us here with
masses and liturgies. We are very blessed to have
him with us! When you see him, introduce yourself
and welcome him with the Spirit of St. Joseph! Welcome Fr. Pedro!
Have a blessed and holy week!
In Christ’s love, Fr. Pat

Ministerio Hispano
Año Jubilar de la Misericordia
Decimosexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
La parábola del
domingo pasado terminaba con la orden de
Jesús: vayan a hacer
Si no
Si no servimos a
Primera lectura —
Abraham y Sara muestran hospitalidad a los mensajeros
del Señor
(Génesis 18:1-10a).
Salmo —
¿Quien será grato a tus ojos, Señor?
(Salmo 15 [14])
Segunda lectura —
Evangelio —
Marta, te preocupas de muchas cosas. María ha escogido
la mejor parte (Lucas 10:38-42).

Faith Formation
Faith Formation is a vital element of every Catholic
parish. The role of parish faith formation is to provide
organized and systematic approach to the instruction
and practice of the faith for everyone in the parish
community. The goal of this formation is to give each
member an understanding of their faith so they can
evangelize and witness to the faith in the greater secular community. The programs offered at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral parish reflect the diversity of an urban Southern California parish.
In addition to the weekly catechetical program special
events and speakers are presented throughout the
parish’s pastoral year.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
RCIA an Invitation for everyone
to Community in Christ.
At St. Joseph Cathedral’s parish community we believe that everyone has an invitation to join the RCIA
process. The RCIA’s invitation is for those individuals who have not been baptized and wish to enter into
a relationship with Jesus Christ in the Roman Catholic
Faith Community. The invitation is for those from
other Christian Faith communities who wish to become members of the Roman Catholic Church.
Catholics who have not completed the sacraments of
Confirmation and Eucharist will find the invitation is
for them to complete those sacraments. Catholics
who have not been active in their faith and wish to
return to an active sacramental relationship with the
faith community will find the RCIA a place to have
that journey. Also, Catholics who wish to renew their
faith by refreshing their knowledge of the church’s
teaching are most welcome.
Evangelization and Catechesis are the hallmarks of the
RCIA at St. Joseph Cathedral. For more information
write Bill Bischoff at [email protected] or call
the Parish Office.
