Principal Abed with our Boushall Spelling Bee winners
Lajon Singleton and Ryan Winn
The first semester ended on a very positive
note. Our students are making huge strides in
all their classes based on the second benchmark
scores. Our cheerleaders won second place in
the District competition and Regan Wynn represented Boushall Middle School in the
Spelling Bee. We are continuing our winner's
trek at Boushall.
Please continue to support your child by making sure they come to school and on time everyday. Maintain the communication between
home and school. Feel free to call and make an
appointment to meet with your child's teacher.
Tutoring and club activities will begin February
2, 2015. Please encourage your child to stay
after school for club activities or extra help in
their core classes.
Second semester is where the rubber hits the
road. The teachers will begin their strong push
in preparing the students for the upcoming

Many parents and family came out to enjoy our students perform at the Boushall Winter Concert. A special

Eighth Grade Update
The 6th grade went for a showing of Disney’s Big Hero 6. Students participated
in various movie related activities, including writing a movie review

película Disney Big Hero 6. Luego escribieron sus reseña sobre la película.
The 7th graders are working on lessons
that are teaching the Holocaust. We
went to the Holocaust Museum and had
a great tour. The tour guides were very
informative and the kids learned a great
deal that will help them be successful
on the SOL. The 7th graders also went
to see the movie Selma. This movie was
powerful and the kids were extremely
excited about learning about the civil
rights movement and Martin Luther
King Jr. They will be working on their
next project based learning will be on
the HBCU's to infuse them with
knowledge of the differences of colleges and get them excited about their futures.
Los alumnos de 7mo grado están trabajando en las lecciones sobre el Holocausto. Fuimos al Museo del Holocausto y pasamos un bien tiempo. Los guías
turísticas eran muy informativas y los
niños aprendieron nueva información
para pasar los SOL. También fueron a
ver la película Selma. Los niños aprendieron sobre el movimiento de los derechos civiles y Martin Luther King Jr.
Ellos estarán trabajando en su aprendizaje basado en proyectos sobre las diferencias entre las universidades para

The 8th grade students have been
working hard throughout the school
year to prepare for their transition to
high school. Students will be taking
the Writing SOL in March. February
has been an exciting month for 8th
grade field trips. As a reward for passing two or more Benchmark exams,
students went the Bowtie Theater for a
private screening of the film “Selma”.
Students also went to the General Assembly with the Civics teachers.
Big Hero 6

“Big Hero 6” was the funniest movie
ever. I loved it, especially when he finds
out about Bamax. Bamax is the cutest
robot ever. If they made a real life Bamax, I would like to own one. I would give
this movie 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
Antibullying Awareness
Students participated in an Antibullying training presented by the
Richmond Police Department Community Care Unit. Officer Lewis, a
former T C Boushall Middle School
resource officer engaged students in
activities designed to bring awareness and to teach strategies to students to recognize and combat bullying.
Nuestros estudiantes participaron en un

In order to administer prescribed medication to your child, the
medication must be brought to the nurse clinic by a parent or
guardian with a school medication form signed by the doctor.
Most doctors in the area have this form available in their offices. Please be aware that I am not able to give your child
over-the-counter meds for headaches or stomach aches. If
your child has asthma and needs to carry their inhaler with
them at all times, the doctor must indicate that your child has
been trained in the proper use of the inhaler and is capable/
responsible in administering the medication themselves. Just
know, we want school to be a safe place for all children.

Para poder administrar medicamento prescita para su hijo, el medicamento debe ser llevado a la enfermería por un padre o tutor con
un formulario de instrucciones de medicamentos para la escuela,
firmado por el médico. La mayoría de los médicos de zona tienen
este formulario en sus oficinas. Tenga en cuenta que no puedo
darle a sus hijo medicamento que no requiere receta médica (overthe-counter) para dolores de cabeza o estómago. Si su hijo tiene

Place 2nd in the
District
Our Boushall cheerleaders placed second in the District
Cheerleading Competition. Under the leadership of Coach Harris and Coach Lightfoot, the cheerleaders impressed the judges
with their crisp and show stopping routines. Congratulations
cheerleaders--your hard work showed!

I am hoping that 2015 will be great for all of you! Please be
aware that if your student is ill, they must have a parent note
or doctor excuse for their absence upon their return to
school. An excessive amount of tardiness can also counts as
absences. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with
the attendance policy written in our student code of ethics. If

ART NEWS
Ms. Hill and groups of her art students visited the Museum of Fine
Arts in Richmond. They compared
a variety of modern and contemporary artwork and later wrote
their observations in a creative
writing activity.

Boushall Art Displayed at the SunTrust Art Exhibition
Mateo Ascencio's surreal collage, made of watercolor,
acrylic paint, magazine clippings and metallic marker on
watercolor paper, will be displayed at the SunTrust Bank
exhibit for Youth Art Month. The exhibition opening is
march 4th and will be displayed throughout March.

Chess Club
Our
Boushall chess club is growing daily. We are
fortunate to have Mike Callaham of the Richmond Chess Initiative (RCI) working with our children. Students from Albert Hill Middle School
competed against 5 other Virginia schools and managed a 3rd place showing after just 4 weeks of RCI instruction!! Our students will be learning strategies, and analytical skills that will provide a lifetime of accomplishments and opens doors to scholarships and employment opportunities. Sign up today.

Nuestro club de ajedrez Boushall crece día a día . Tenemos la suerte de tener a Mike Callaham de la Iniciativa de
Ajedrez Richmond ( RCI ) trabajando con nuestros niños. Estudiantes de la escuela Albert Hill compitieron contra
5 escuelas de Virginia y lograron terminar en 3er lugar con solo 4 semanas de instrucción con la RCI.

Eighth graders are encouraged to
join coaches Lewis and Nichols at
the Boushall Fitness club on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays
from 3:00 pm to 4:30. Club members will be participating in work
out sessions, mixed open gym and
basketball.

NEW RPS MOBIL APP GIVES PARENTS THE POWER

La nueva aplicación móvil RPS da poder a los padres
Richmond Public Schools (RPS) has launched its mobile app to provide increased access to district resources, news and activities,
and enable parents to become better engaged in their child’s academic progress.
This free, mobile app offers parents ready access to useful information such as student grades, attendance and class assignments.
Other features of the app include access to sports news, school and district calendars and directories in addition to student health
records, lunch menus and cafeteria balances. The app also is capable of translating messages in over 60 languages. Users can
choose to receive notifications through text, email or phone.
To access secure student information, parents will be required to obtain a system-generated username and password. You
must get this information by contacting or visiting Boushall Middle School. You will be required to show identification to assure the security of your child’s information.
This app is available to download for iPhone and Android users by using the search term “Richmond Public Schools” within the
Apple or Google Play stores. Links to both the Apple iOS and Android mobile apps are also available on the district’s website:
