Dear Friends in Christ,
The joy of Easter con nues this Fourth Sunday of Easter also known as
World Day of Prayer for Voca ons in a very special way in our parish. The ancipa on that we have had for this weekend has indeed been great. One of
our own, Jonathan Emery was ordained a deacon on Saturday at St. Vincent de
Paul Regional Seminary. A er eight consecu ve years of forma on, he will
now serve the Church as a deacon this summer at St. Timothy Parish in Lutz
prior to his final year of studies. It is my hope to be there for the ordina on
on Saturday and it will certainly be a joy to have Deacon Emery preach at the
10:30am Mass on Sunday, a Mass at which he will bap ze his niece Abigail
Grayce. It was my pleasure to e the knot, so to speak, for her parents Kur s
and Kayla as well as do the bap sm of their first child Gabriel Michael a few
years ago. There is great joy to have a priest in the family and the an cipa on
of ordina on to the priesthood is heightened exponen ally with this major
step in Jonathan’s life. When I was visi ng Jonathan’s mother in the hospital
a er her recent surgery and commen ng on how she did such a great job with
all of her children, she reflected back that “it takes a parish.” Her musings on
the good character of all five of her children have everything to do with the
fact that she had a lot of help from people in the parish. The involvement of
Bob and Robin Emery in parish life did not let up just because they were raising a family. If anything every child brought them to the church, for bap sm,
then faith forma on, although they probably exemplified the prayer in the
bap smal rite where it reminds all present that parents are the first teachers
of the faith, may they be the best of teachers. In watching video of Pope Francis washing feet of inmates on Holy Thursday, I no ced he was wearing a deacon’s stole. Ordina on, especially to the diaconate is about service. While the
challenge of forma on and academia is mostly in the rearview mirror for Jonathan, the wondrous way of life that is a part of the clerical state will bring
many challenges in ministry. It is my hope that the inspira on of the Holy
Spirit will come upon the parish so that voca ons to the priesthood and religious life can be nurtured in families that follow the lead of the Emery family.
Our prayers are with you Deacon John as you con nue your journey towards
the priesthood.
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Tom J. Anastasia

AN INVITATION FROM
THE OFFICE OF THE
LAY PASTORAL
MINISTRY INSTITUTE:
WELCOME HOME!!
Catholics Come Home ministry program will meet
monthly star ng in April. We will meet Tuesdays on May
15 and June 18. We will meet from 7-8pm in the St. IgnaƟus portable located behind the church. This program
is for inac ve Catholics who have a desire to par cipate
fully in their Catholic faith. There can be various reasons
why people have been away from the Church: some personal and/or some sacramental. One thing they all have
in common is a need to be closer to Christ. This ministry
provides a warm friendly, confiden al atmosphere that
encourages par cipants to ask ques ons and share their
stories. They meet with a core group of ac ve Catholics
who in many cases have had similar experiences as those
seeking to return to the Church. Please consider joining
us. We miss you!
StarƟng in July the ministry will meet every 3rd Monday
of the month, same me, same place. For further informa on please contact Judy Zink, 813-659-0956.

Is God Calling You to Serve as a Lay Ecclesial
Minister in His Church?
So o en, people ask how they might grow in their faith.
In response to this searching, Bishop Lynch ini ated the
Lay Pastoral Ministry Ins tute in 1998. The LPMI is a four
-year program (1 informal year of discernment and 3
years of leadership training, study and spiritual growth.)
It is for women and men of our Diocese who are involved in ministry, show leadership poten al, and seek
to con nue growth as ministerial leaders. During this
Easter Season of the Year of Faith, we invite you to learn
more about the Diocesan Lay Pastoral Ministry Ins tute.
Read our Pray & Reflect sec on in your parish bulle n
and pray to be open to God calling you to par cipate in
the LPMI Year of Discernment beginning in September
2013. The Year of Discernment does not commit you to
the 3 years of academic study. Your parish will receive
our brochures in a few weeks. Un l then, interested
adults can find brochures and more
details on the LPMI web site at
www.dosp_lpmi. Or, you may contact

Padre Tom J. Anastasia
