Letters to England
The Post starters have written pen pal letters to a
primary school in the east of England. We hope the
children in England enjoy reading the letters and are
looking forward to hearing from them soon.
My City: By Movers
From Alvaro’s Land to Clash of Clans City our
Movers class invented their own cities.
In class we talked about what there is and
what you can do in our cities. Also we
confirmed the population of the city and which
famous people had visited our cities.
Well done amazing Movers!
The 4 seasons Masterpiece
Done by: Post Starters
on Friday
This island was designed
by Laura Arribas. “My
island is very big. It has a
big volcano, a very, very
big lake, a medium size
valet, a small cliff, small
bay, big mountains, a big
beach, a rainforest and a
plain. I like my island
because it is the best.
The mountains are big
but the volcano is bigger
than the mountains and
the lake is the biggest!
In Flyers we have been designing our own desert island! Each island has a
lot of features on it, what would yours look like? Some have BIG
mountains, some have a HOT volcano, some have a rainforest with
AMAZING animals in!
This island was designed by
Elena Alvarez. “On my
island there is a beautiful
waterfall, a rainforest, a
desert, a cliff, mountains, a
lake, a valley, a little beach,
volcanoes and an iceberg.
The volcanoes are high, the
cliff is higher but the
mountains are the highest.
The valley is small, the
rainforest is smaller, but the
beach is the smallest. The
waterfall is cold, the lake is
colder but the iceberg is the
coldest!”
On Fridays with the Flyers
we learnt about Ancient
Egypt and mummies!!
We also wrote comic stories about different jobs, here are some about fire fighters
and scientists!
A trip down memory lane…
Hey, teens! We found some pictures of your classmates from a very long
time ago. Do you recognize any of your friends on this page? (Bonus points if
you recognize the teachers!)
TOP (TECS Online Platform) is successfully up and running with many classes at TECS now confidently using the platform in
the classroom, to complete homework assignments, as a communication tool between students, parents and teachers
and as an exam revision resource.
WHAT DO STUDENTS THINK ABOUT TOP?
What do you use TOP for?
‘I do lessons at tecs on the computer to do writing. I write more when we do
computer lessons’ -TECS Teenager
Do you enjoy using TOP in class?
‘Yes because we don’t use books and can use the internet’ –TECS Teenager
How do you find doing homework assignments on TOP?
‘It is not boring like the homework in the books’ –TECS Teenager
STILL UNSURE ABOUT HOW TO ACCESS AND USE TOP?
Don’t worry! TOP is new to everyone at TECS this year teachers parents and students
alike. Here is some information about how to use top and what it has to offer for
students.
What is TOP?
TOP is an online platform that allows the sharing of ideas, assignments, news and
resources for the students and parents at TECS. Each student has a password unique
to them and courses they can enrol on, created by their teacher. Once enrolled on
the course, students are able to access its contents anywhere using their log in
details. This allows students to not only view digital content in class but also
complete work, revise and share ideas from home.
What is a Top course?
Each teacher at TECS will have a unique take on how they use TOP in their classes.
However, in general classes will use TOP in the computer room at TECS and to access
homework. The course content will be made up of various digital content such as
assignments, quizzes, forums, videos, songs, games, and web site links to other
resources. Students can complete work directly onto TOP or upload saved files such
as word and power point documents. This work can then be viewed and graded by
the teacher.
Step by step guide to logging on and finding your course?
-find out your unique log in details, a username and password. We recommend
writing these inside your course book as you will need to use them on a regular basis.
- open up the website www.top.tecs.es
-the log in button can be found in the top right corner of the screen
-click on ‘central’ and then follow the links until you find your course
-if you have never accessed the course before you may need to enrol by pressing the
blue ‘enrol me’ button.
-explore the content of the course and/or access the content you need to complete.
What TECS students have to say about TOP…
(http://top.tecs.es)
 ¨I think TOP is really good to practice and remember
the vocabulary, the grammar, and the games are
very fun to review things. But TOP I think is not good
to do homework at home because the internet
sometimes has problems, for example some people
cannot enter in there.¨ Jose, Intermediate II
 ¨I like top very much, because is a new way of
learning.I also prefer using computers and might
be better for people because they can enjoy.¨
Marta, Upper Intermediate
 ¨I think that TOP is a good tool to practice
English and communicate with teachers
differently and fun TOP used to practice the
vocabulary and the grammar and this is
fantastic because you can review what you
learned in class.¨ Lucia, Intermediate II
 ¨TOP is fantastic because his
videos and images are very
educational and has many
games I used to study¨Naim,
Mover
 ¨I think TOP is very enjoyable. There are
lots of games and homework that helps
us to learn more English. We sometimes
use it in class to play games about the
things we studied so I think it's a great
help to us.Sometimes we do homework
in TOP and I prefer this than use the
book!I like to do homework on the
internet and TOP is a funny and
interesting platform to do extra
homework to practice the lessons,
because I think that when we studied
something and we did the homework,
then we forget everything.I love TOP and
I want to do more homework here to
practice more English!¨ Helena,
Intermediate II
 ¨I think is easier and faster to homework with
top, also if you don't finish in class you can
finish your task at home and you can upload it
into top.¨ Alberto, Upper Intermediate

Valencia
By Alvaro Perez
Here are four activities which I consider to be suitable for students coming to stay in my town, Valencia.
A. Learn fun
In Valencia we have an amazing place to learn a lot of things and have fun, the art and science city! Here you
can learn past and future things, history and technology as you have a lot of fun!
B. Relax time
If you need to disconnect or to relax, you should go to the park near the river. A big place to walk and relax,
see birds sing and the wind sounds.
C. The City Centre
In the city centre you´ll see a lot of shops and beautiful places as the church of Valencia or the gigantic art
gallery! If you like to buy clothes, your paradise is there!
D. The Tree Restaurant
In the city centre we have a special restaurant. This restaurant has a big tree whose trunk has been cut and
they put chairs and desks to have dinner in the tree.
A great experience to have!

The party will be on the 20th of February (Friday) at 8.pm and we will stay all night. There will be a lot of food and drink. We
will have a DJ for the music and you can sing in the party if you want, that would be cool.
I hope you can make it. Paloma xx

as we arrived, we will go to see all the festivals and her attractions. After that you can go to dance with the rock music,
sing a lot, take pictures, drink or eat food, and much more. There will be a lot of activities that is why you should go.
Finally, we will eat a wonderful fondant cake and we will sleep here. You will not have to pay any money because all
costs are on me. Ana RSVP

guitar in that festival, so, although I will be very busy playing, when my show finishes I will go to meet you and wish you
a very happy birthday. I am sure the cake will be delicious and you will have a great time. I hope you will like my songs, I

Story Cube Stories
(Narrative tenses)
The Teenagers have created some brilliantly weird and wonderful stories using the story
cube dice for inspiration.
A long time ago, there was a father that had a son called Thomas. They were so poor and
didn’t have money. So he decided to steal all the gold of the white house. So he took his gun.
While he was walking he found bones and between them a map and next to them old stairs.
He went into the stairs and found the sea. He found a helmet and a light and took a canoe
across the sea. Later, in the middle of the sea he saw an old pirate boat in the deep of the sea.
He went to it and next to a lot of bones there was a treasure. When he came back to his
house, the son ask to him, where have you been?
THE END
By Juan and Joaquin (Intermediate teens)
In the morning I had decided to go to the circus. The sun was shining when suddenly I banged
into a cactus, then my bag opened and it fell down and eggs fell out and they broke so the
little chicken died. To go to the circus I needed pass mountains and started to rain. I was
angry so I drank a cup of beer and I ate a super big mushroom.

TECS YOUTH
DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAMME
For the first time ever TECS are offering their
Upper Intermediate Teenage students an
opportunity to work for TECS!
What is it?
The TECS Youth
Development Programme
(YDP) is an opportunity for
teenage students of TECS to
gain valuable work
experience, professional
development and use and
improve their knowledge of
English.
What is the position?
Students will achieve a Youth
Assistant (YA) role within the
company, this is a voluntary
position that benefits all
involved. They will assist in the
planning, delivery and success
of the Friday classes and TECS
Events
TECS YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAMME
Dear Caroline,
I am writing this letter because I am interested for the work
experience opportunity to volunteer on Friday class.
I would like this position because I want to be a teacher in the
future and I think that this experience is useful for me. I want to
practice before I teach and I think that TECS is a good place to
practice while I improve my English. The most important thing is
that everybody goes to university and work experience is
necessary to be different to others and give me a better chance of
getting a job.
I think I will be a good volunteer teacher for the children who
come to TECS on Friday because I love children, I like English
and I really want this job.
I can promise to encourage good behavior in the class, with the
children and work well with the teacher I will be helping.
Yours faithfully
“I think it will be good for me to
learn how to behave like a
teacher because then when I am
in class I know how the teachers
feel like and I can put myself in
their place and think how I
would like myself to behave. “
Ana Domecq
“I think I would be good at the
job because I like children and
learning about teaching, and
there is no better way to help
than being a teacher.”
Isabel Martínez de Murga
Nogués
Maria Selma de Torres
“At the end of the year, I think I
will be more confident about
getting a job, in my case I want
to be a pediatrician. I think it
would be very beneficial to me
and I really want to work with
you”
Maria Matesanz
The students who wanted to be involved in the TECS Youth Development Programme had to complete a
formal application letter, reflective of the real working world. Students were asked to explain why they
wanted to be part of the programme, which of their qualities would be good for the position and what
they think they would learn during the programme. The students were fantastic in self assessing their
personalities and identifying their strengths which will help them when applying for jobs in the future.
Well done TECS Y.D.P Team!
St Patrick’s Day activities at TECS
On Friday 20th March we celebrated St Patricks Day, which was actually
on Tuesday 17th March.
Our Teens and Adults had lots of fun with a quiz, games and then the
teens made potato men afterwards

I have chosen this song because I
like the videoclip very much and I
also like the rhythm. It reminds me
of a funny friend of mine who
showed it to me. I listen to it every
night before going to sleep and also
when I am with my friends

Paint it black – The Rolling
Stones
I will always remember this song
for being the one that took me
into rock music. My father
showed it to me a very long time
ago. He gave me a record of the
Stones for my 11th birthday. The
beginning of a long rockin’ way
with the Stones playing.

No. 1 party anthem – Arctic
Monkeys
Right from the start this song
makes me feel good. I’m used to
listening to it when I need a
moment of calm after a long
hard week. This band has also
other songs which are much
more rhythmic but I think this
one is perfect for a daydreaming
moment.

The music we love
Dreamland – Bob Marley with Lee
Scratch Perry
Every night I feel so tired when I’m
going to get a shower I always take
my mobile phone with me to play
music on Spotify. I just let it play at
random. It is always being played
and I love to sing it. It makes me
feel much better.

Love me like you do – Ellie
Goulding
I have chosen this song because I
heard it on the radio last week
and I thought the lyrics were
good. And last Wednesday I
went to the cinema and I
watched “50 shades of Grey” and
I heard the song in the film and I
also liked the film.

In the summertime – Mungo Jerry
I have chosen this marvellous song
because of the rhythm, the lyrics
talking about the summer, and I
heard it in a film that I like
because my favorite actress
appears in it. I like old songs and
everything related with the ages
of my parents when they were
young.

Crazy in love – Beyoncé
Wonderwall – Oasis
Dancing Fool – Frank Zappa
I love this remix that Beyoncé
wrote for the film “50 shades of
Grey”. I just like the lyrics and
also I prefer the rhythm of this
version than the old one.
This song reminds me of years ago
when I was younger and I used to
travel a lot with my parents,
which doesn’t happen nowadays.
I really love this song because
when I was a teenager we used
to do “Idiot Dancing” where you
all just threw yourselves about
to the music.
The song is talking about love and
I love the scene of the film that
features this song.
My father really likes Oasis so
while we were travelling and he
was driving, he played his CD and
this was one of those songs.

Maroon 5 – Maps
Now I think I’m a fantastic
dancer but nobody I know
agrees with me. I guess I will
always be a “Dancing Fool”

I chose this songbecause it’s one of my favourites of this group.
This song talks about the things that the singer missed when he broke up with his
girlfriend and every time I hear it, I remember when I broke up with my boyfriend and I
cried a lot.
But it’s a very beautiful song and I invite you to hear it.

We are very happy that some of our students choose to continue their studies after
they have already achieved a high level of English by passing a C1 exam. I asked
them why. Here are some of their thoughts on the subject.
“Many people ask themselves this question when they finally get
their C1 certificate, and the answer is “Yes, of course!”
The race for the level of English that you want does not end
after taking a C1 exam. You can go ahead and prepare yourself for a C2 exam.
But, you might ask, why if it’s not really necessary?
And yes, that’s right.
But why stop there and be like everyone else? Having a C2 level
would make you stand out in this very, very competitive world of ours.”
Is there life after C1?
“There’s one thing no one will ever be able to take away from you,
and that is knowledge. Knowledge is power and it is freedom.
Then why close the book on your knowledge of English after CAE?
Loving something always comes down to never getting tired of doing it.
Loving English, or any other language for that matter, means moving further than
textbooks and grammar, and into the real world. Who knows
where it will take you? As far as the timeless works of
Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and James Joyce?”
