PRO-LIFE CORNER - Because of abortion on demand, women are treated as property. It is further degrading to women that they should treat their children as property to be disposed of as she sees fit. Lord, give us the grace and courage
to return to a love and respect for all life, born and unborn.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Parishioners,
Happy Fathers’ Day to all our fathers. On Fathers’ Day parishioners many times give me this
greeting as they exit the church. They explain that I am their spiritual Father. I humbly accept their
greetings and realize that there are different types of fatherhood. The role of fatherhood is a path of life
that men have a choice to accept. Some of the types of fathers are biological fathers, fathers who are
parents, spiritual fathers and then there is the one Heavenly Father.
Unfortunately there are some men who are willing to be a biological father but are not willing to
accept the responsibility of being a parent. Sadly, these fathers abandon the mother and their child. To
be a father is a very important responsibility. St. Joseph is the church’s example of a father that was not
a biological father but out of his love for God and empowered by his heavenly Father, he became a parental
father for Jesus. He was a protector and guide for the Holy Family. We need to pray for all fathers of the
world that they may be willing to accept their call in life and prayerfully be open to the grace and strength
from God to carry out their important responsibilities as father to their family.
As we think of Fathers’ Day, we can also think of the importance of the right to religious freedom
that the founding fathers of our country made part of our heritage. This Tuesday, June 21st will be the
vigil of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More. Dioceses around our country will be reminding Catholics
of the importance of defending religious freedom. There will be a fortnight (14 day) period of prayerful
offering that our country respects our religious freedoms in its laws. Catholics have a right not to be forced
to support abortion, assisted suicide, same sex marriage, contraception and other practices that are being
made legal. Let us ask God to help us as Catholics not to give up our right to freedom of religion and to
obey the teachings of our faith.
Rev. Darrell Da Costa
Queridos Feligreses:
