About Society of Petroleum Engineers
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association
whose more than 143,000 members in 147 countries are engaged in oil and gas
exploration and production. SPE is a key resource for technical knowledge providing
publications, events, training courses, and online resources at www.spe.org.

The technical program emphasizes the substantial resource base and significant
potential for exploration and production of the mostly untapped sources in the
Latin America and Caribbean region, particularly for deepwater, mature, and heavy
oil. The region holds world-class potential for shale gas and liquids-rich petroleum
systems. The strategic position of the region for supplying local and global oil and gas
production makes it an important player in emerging markets. Major investments in
infrastructure and development are in progress, and this conference highlights many
of these projects, as well as opportunities throughout the region.
