Thomas is often dubbed as “Doubting
Thomas” because of his encounter today
with the Risen Jesus. We can all be
sympathetic for him because, I’m sure,
everything was so overwhelming and
emotional. We have all struggled with our
doubts. But Thomas didn’t stay a doubter
and neither should we.
We need to
remember that Thomas ended up being a
person of great faith.
When we doubt we are challenged to grow in our
faith. Times of doubt, though unsettling, can also be
opportunities to attain a more mature understanding of
who we are as people of faith and how the power of
Jesus fit in to our lives. When we struggle we need to
humbly kneel before the Lord and say “I believe, but
help my unbelief.”
St. Thomas, according to tradition, became a great
missionary apostle. His missionary journey went east
through Persia and down into India along the Malabar
coast where he was killed. To this day there is a large
Christian community that celebrates their apostolic
roots in St. Thomas, whose tomb is in Chennai, India.
We may all be a “doubting Thomas” sometimes, but
we are called to be a “believing Thomas”.

Santo Tomas es a menudo denominado como
"Tomás el incrédulo" a causa de su encuentro con
Jesús resucitado. Todos podemos tener una
cierta simpatía con él, ya que, estoy seguro,
todos hemos tenido problemas con nuestras
dudas. Pero Tomas no se quedó con duda y
tampoco debemos. Hay que recordar que Tomas
terminó siendo una persona de gran fe.
Cuando dudamos tenemos el reto de crecer
en nuestra fe. Los momentos de duda, aunque
inquietante, también pueden ser oportunidades para
alcanzar una comprensión más madura de lo que somos
como personas de fe y cómo el poder de Jesús puede
encajar en nuestras vidas. Cuando luchamos tenemos
que estar siempre humildemente ante el Señor y decir:
"Creo Señor, pero aumenta mi fe.”
Santo Tomás, según la tradición, se convirtió en un
gran apóstol misionero. Su misión fue viajar hacia el
este a través de Persia, al sur de la India y a lo largo de
la costa de Malabar, donde fue asesinado. Hasta hoy en
día, hay una gran comunidad cristiana que celebra sus
raíces apostólicas en St. Tomas, cuya tumba se
encuentra en Chennai, India.
A veces todos podemos ser un "Tomas incrédulo", pero
estamos llamados a ser un "Tomas creyente."
