School News
Our school community celebrated the US Bishops' Day of Prayer for Peace and Unity with a
Scriptural Rosary. We continue to pray for that we and our nation will work to "strip away
pride, suspicion, and racism, so that we may seek peace and justice in our communities."
On Thursday, Sept. 14 our Principal, Mrs. Perez, will be a special guest on Radio
Santisima, Hora del Obispo to talk about our new STEM project. Tune in at 9:30am. The
school will celebrate Mass with the parish on Sunday, September 18 at 10:30am.
There are just a few openings left in our 4-year old preschool program. Contact the school to

Join us for ONE Hour Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday, Sept. 16
from 7- 9pm in the Church. We invite all teens and High School students - those preparing for

40 Days for Life – Rosary, Vigil Mass & Campaign
Kick-Off Date: Saturday, September 24th, Location: St.
Philomene Catholic Church. Bishop Myron Cotta will
celebrate our Diocese’s Opening Mass at 5:30 pm. The Rosary
will be prayed at 5:00 pm. A spaghetti dinner kickoff will
follow immediately afterward in the St. Philomene school gym.
Everyone is invited to attend and priests are invited to
concelebrate with Bishop Cotta.
40 Days for Life Campaign:
The Fall 40 Days for Life prayer vigil begins on September 28
around the world, including several in our Diocese. Christians
will pray and offer assistance on the sidewalk, Monday Friday, from September 28th to November 6th. This lifesaving, peaceful, prayerful ministry is endorsed by Bishop Soto
who encourages all Catholics to participate. By God's grace
over 11,700 women worldwide have changed their minds,
choosing LIFE for their children rather than abortion because
of people praying at the sidewalk. The Sacramento vigil will be
held at 1442 Ethan Way, along the public sidewalk of the
abortion business parking lot on Hallmark Drive, across from
the state fairgrounds. For more information visit

Pope advances sainthood cause for Bishop Alphonse
Gallegos, declared Venerable
In decisions made on July 8, Pope Francis advanced the
sainthood cause of the late Bishop Alphonse Gallegos, who
served as auxiliary bishop of Sacramento from 1981 until his
death in an auto accident near Yuba City in 1991. He was
particularly known as the “bishop of the barrio” for his
ministry to farm workers for the poor and marginalized,
un-catechized young people, migrants and other people who
lacked support from the community, and often spent his
summer vacations living with farmworkers in the Central
Valley. Bishop Jaime Soto will preside at a Mass of
thanksgiving for Venerable Alphonse Gallegos on Saturday,
Nov. 19, at 1:30 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Blessed
Sacrament in downtown Sacramento.
