August 2013 - New Mexico Gas Company
Natural Gas Pipeline
August 2013 | nmgco.com
If You Smell Gas
New Mexico Gas Company is committed to the
safety of our customers. Natural gas is both odorless
and colorless. For your safety, an ingredient is added
to give it a rotten egg or strong sulfur-like odor. This odor
helps people identify natural gas leaks.
If you smell gas (a rotten egg smell) or suspect a gas leak,
immediately leave the building and call us from a safe
distance. Do not use your phone or other electronic
devices that could cause a spark including battery-operated
devices, radios, televisions or computers. Emergency
response service is available 24/7 at 888-NM-GAS-CO
(888-664-2726).
Visit our website, nmgco.com/Safety_and_Emergencies,
for more information about these and other safety topics.
Natural gas doesn’t explode on its own, but it will ignite if there is a source of ignition and air.
Striking a natural gas line could result in damage, including explosions, fire and even death

Who Maintains Your Gas Lines?
Customer
Responsibility
Your safety is very important
to us. New Mexico Gas
Company is responsible for
maintaining only the gas
line up to our gas meter.
The maintenance of the
gas line between our meter
and your home or building
is your responsibility.
Your buried pipes should
be periodically inspected
for corrosion and leakage.
In some cases, these pipes
may not be protected from
corrosion, which can weaken
or destroy metal. Any unsafe conditions that are discovered
should be repaired. When excavating near buried gas
piping, the piping should be located in advance, and the
excavation done by hand. Contact your local plumber or
licensed heating contractor to assist you in locating,
inspecting and repairing your buried pipes. If you are a
tenant, please contact your landlord.

even more New Mexicans stay warm this winter.
Your donations are tax-deductible. For every dollar you

hecha a mano.
