A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Today’s Gospel reveals what miraculous things can happen
when one embraces a single-minded faith in Jesus Christ. Peter
gets out of a wind-tossed boat when the Lord calls him. His
faith is tested by his obedience to Jesus who is calling him out
onto the water. In the midst of the waves and the wind, Peter
gets out of the boat and walks toward Jesus. Good stewards
heed Christ’s call to them. Sometimes that call directs them to
take on seemingly impossible challenges. This week, reflect on
how the Lord could be calling you out of the safety of your own
“boat” to take on the impossible.

NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Saint Vincent’s Corner
In this Gospel, Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and caught Peter, and said to him, “O you of little faith,
why did you doubt?”
Please help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul bring respite and hope to the elderly who are not able to
find relief from the summer heat, and you will bring them faith and hope!” If you know of someone in
need, have them call 512-255-2330 for assistance. For more information about Saint Vincent de Paul,
please visit www.svdprr.org.
Words of Life
After 41 years of Roe v. Wade, we consider the past four decades in which our society has legally permitted abortion and
wandered far from God. Instead of accepting children in joy and hope, many hearts seem hardened against making commitments to others, fearing the demands others may make on our time or our freedom. We are becoming a culture marked by
rejection, by loneliness and sorrow. In Mark 3:1-6, we hear how Jesus grieved over the Pharisees' hardness of heart, as he
heals the man with the withered hand. They remained silent when Jesus pointedly asked them: "Is it lawful to do good on the
Sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" Our laws now make it legal to destroy life by abortion, by
abortifacient drugs, in destructive embryo research, in the course of in vitro fertilization procedures, and in some states by
assisted suicide and the death penalty. How Jesus must grieve over this culture of death! Let us open our hearts in faith,
entrusting our culture to the healing power of Christ, the One who has overcome sin and the power of evil.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL
TEACHING
When Peter gets out of the fishing boat to meet
Jesus, he is certainly leaving his comfort zone!
Being a disciple calls us to places that will
stretch us. Don’t be afraid to leave your comfort
zone by joining a jail or prison ministry team;
writing or talking with a legislator; studying
Catholic teachings that make you
uncomfortable; allowing a poor person to
befriend you; becoming a foster family. Jesus
sends us to proclaim the Gospel to the ends of
the earth; sometimes that might not even mean
leaving our town or city. How is Jesus calling
you to leave your comfort zone?
persona pobre se convierta en su amigo(a);
Registration for the 2014-2015 Season of Children’s

Help your daughter embrace the dignity given her as a child of God! Today’s culture sends
messages to our daughters that often oppose God's truths. The John Paul II Life Center is offering

blossoming fertility in faith, science, and love. Class will be held on August 7 at 10 a.m. at the JPII
Life Center with a cost of $10 which includes lunch. The deadline to register is August 5.

sites. If you know of someone that needs assistance with minor home repair,
home cleaning, yard work, painting, and/or minor construction projects, please
complete a referral form found in the narthex, parish office, or on the parish

All potential sites will be evaluated for available work and feasibility prior to
selection. Referral forms can be returned to the parish office or

If you are a woman 12-112, you are invited to come to spend an hour in prayer
with other women from Saint William Parish. We will join together Tuesday, August 19 from 8-9 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Chapel to offer our hearts, in
solidarity with one another, to the Lord. The prayer hour will be very simple, and
will include praise and worship, a scripture reading, silent reflection, and a closing
prayer. If you desire a few moments to come and allow the Lord to refresh your
soul, this is for you! If you have any questions, you may email Amy Villarreal at
