Les informations publiées en page 8 paraissent donc pour la dernière fois. tion we can no longer oppose and therefore have given the authorization asked of us. Our thanks to the Polish Brothers who have had the courtesy to ask the question. This has however required us to modify the way we do business. In order to best protect the personal information of our Brothers, the following has been decided: 1.The Directory and its updates will no longer be published in TTP. Merci de votre compréhension ! La Rédaction A n interesting question was just asked of the editor by the Polish Brothers: Could we give our consent to allow Tortuga Post to be included in their digital Maritime Library? This question has naturally initiated the opportunity for an intense discussion within the editorial staff. When searching for ”The Tortuga Post” on Google one retrieves more than 2,500 entries in less than a second. The informations published on page 8 will therefore appear for the last time. Thank you for your understanding! The name originated in Norman French, meaning "five ports" (although it is pronounced "sink" ports, not the French cinq). The original confederation members are Hastings, New Romney, Hythe, Dover and Sandwich. The five ports are supported by the two so-called "Antient Towns" of Rye and Winchelsea whose councils traditionally maintained defence contingents for the realm of England. In addition there are seven other members of the Confederation, which were considered to be Limbs of the other towns: Lydd (Limb of New Romney), Folkestone (Limb of Dover), Faversham (Limb of Dover), Margate (Limb of Dover), Deal (Limb of Sandwich), Ramsgate (Limb of Sandwich), Tenterden (Limb of Rye). There are no less than 23 other towns, villages and offices with varying degrees of connection to the ancient Liberties of the Cinque Ports – it was once very important to be a member of this illustrious organisation! THE TORTUGA POST repeated – remains to be seen. This is a major event, as we all know, and first came to Waterford three years ago under the organisation of Frere Nicky Fewer, founder of the SE Table. Nicky was made a Freeman of Waterford City as a result. Those interested should contact [email protected] . Sea songs or more precisely ‘shanties’ are the musical legacy from merchant sail ships before the mechanical propulsion took over. They are lovingly remembered and developed by sailing enthusiasts, many of Brothers among them. This cultural heritage is nurtured in many places of the world but Polish landlocked town of Krakow is widely known as one of the most prominent sites. With long tradition since 1981, in February 2011 there was again consecutive, XXX Anniversary International Sea Songs’ Festival “Shanties”. Interestingly, it was The GF Ireland , Capt. The Race ends in Galway in July 2012 , the first time that it has ended outside Scandinavia. And this is due to the enormous success of the Stopover in Galway in the last Race. John Killeen, Enda O'Coineen and Capt. Brian Sheridan who ensured the success of the previous Stopover, are in charge again. John was made a Freeman of Galway as a recognition of what it had done for the City. All three are Freres and members of the Western Table. That well known tune about Indian girl, white trader and river Missouri was developed into a whole story using other shanties and popular maritime tunes. It was accepted by the public with admiration. What is even more interesting - the same opera was performed during the same Krakow Festival a quarter of the century earlier! And with mostly the same singers! Both performances were libretto-ed and directed by Andrzej Radomiński our Brother #86. Back then - after the first edition he managed an international tour and performed “Opera Shenandoah” in many European venues. If that can be In the second weekend of June there is a traditional yearly Sail Szczecin event with many tallships visiting the town. Various maritime happenings and attractions are hosted during these ‘Days of the Sea’. One of them was 2011 award of ‘The Glory of the Seas Trophy’. This year recipient’s name is Tadeusz SIWIEC, retired commander of Polish Navy and oceangoing yacht master known for many victorious sea races and his long and diversified career in yachting dating since 1945. But he was not the only one recipient of honours on the occasion. Two Brothers received Polish Brotherhood Medals. They are: H. Kolesnik #50 and A.Radominski #86 The ceremony had the proper setting and venue: the deck of the s/y ZAWISZA CZARNY, threemasted schooner with rare Vamarie rig belonging to Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, ZHP. The timing was also prestigious: following the special concert marking fifty sea service years of the vessel and before the occasional Zafarrancho of Polish Brothers. And by the way: The skipper and host of the ceremonies on board was capt. Waldemar Mieczkowski, who is a ‘junga’ in our Gdansk Table. This weekend (June 10) the Northern Table assembles on the island of InisMurray, the site of a well preserved early Christian Monastery for their Boucan - and an Orza to Wallace !
