Sixth Sunday of Easter - St. Pius V Catholic Community
The Year
of Faith
Sixth Sunday
of Easter
May 5, 2013
The Easter Season is more than halfway celebrated. Bishop Vann was here at
St. Pius to confirm many of our young people with the gifts of the Holy Spirit
and we pray that their sponsors and parents will continue to help them grow
in the practice of the faith that gives us life. Some of our young people have
made their First Holy Communion in this season and many more will be
coming to the Table of the Lord in the
next two weekends. This is truly a holy
season. ”The Advocate, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name, will
teach you everything and remind you of all
that I told you.”

Many of our parishes are currently involved in the Capital
Campaign for these important efforts. St. Pius V will be
conducting that Campaign in the fall of 2013 with other
parishes as well.
As Father Ted announced last November, when we
conduct the Campaign we will raise funds for the diocesan
efforts and receive a portion for our own projects. We
plan to use our portion of the funds to refurbish the
statues of our Saints, to reupholster the chairs in the
Chapel and, if funds are sufficient, to install solar
panels to help lower our electrical costs.
Please take a tour of our future Christ Cathedral soon and
pray about your gift to this effort.
Grief, Loss & Healing
St. Pius V Bereavement Support Ministry
Next meeting is Monday, May 6th at 7:30 pm.
When someone we love dies, we are sent on a lonely and even
painful journey. Our grief is unique...and it can be a most
agonizing experience.
We invite and warmly welcome any of you who are suffering
due to a previous or recent loss of a love one. Our ministry may
help you cope and work through your grief. We offer you
emotional support, comfort, and discussions on how to deal with
loss, sorrow and transitions. We will listen, share and pray with
you. We join with others to tell the story of the person and to
celebrate their life.
This is a constant and continuing program and is open to
everyone. There are no charges or fees but donations are
welcome.
We meet every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month (except
holidays and holy days of obligation) at 7:30 pm, upstairs in room
“C”.
For information, contact: John Alba at 714-522-2193
Please come and join us, because we care.
“Blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted.”
Bible Study ...
is held every Tuesday at 9:15 am and 7:15 pm in
room ”C”. We will be studying Paul’s Letter to
the Romans. Come join us as we study this very
important letter. For more info, call Joan at 714-522-3083.

Our Wednesday Holy Hour is this Wednesday, May 8th,
beginning at 7:30 pm in the chapel.
The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for adoration for an hour
including an extended period of silence (a half hour or so) for silent
prayer and meditation. The Hour will end with Evening Prayer and
Benediction. During the silent prayer time, you might consider doing
some spiritual reading, journaling, praying the rosary or some other
form of silent and personal prayer, having a quiet conversation with the
Lord, or just simply basking in the presence of the Lord in the Blessed
Sacrament and in one another. Please come prepared to spend this time
fruitfully (with any reading or writing materials you might need).

YEAR OF FAITH: MAY 2013
This Time of Grace Entrusted to Mary: Blessed Because She Believed
Meditation
Knowing the content of the faith is not enough. The heart, that authentic sacred space at the core of every
person, must be opened by grace that we may see below the surface and understand (see Benedict XVI, Door
of Faith, 10).
During May, in this Year of Faith, Easter Time culminates in Christ’s ascension and the Holy Spirit’s
coming at Pentecost. Trinity Sunday helps us make the transition back into Ordinary Time, that long stretch of
“green” Sundays and weekdays when we celebrate the Father’s providential care, the Son’s redeeming love,
the Holy Spirit’s abiding guidance. But May, the lovely month of nature’s motherhood, is always dedicated to
our Blessed Mother Mary. With Mary, the apostles and first disciples kept prayerful vigil for the Spirit’s
coming, the culmination of Mary’s faith-filled lifetime. In Door of Faith, Pope Benedict celebrates Mary’s
faith, shown forth in her acceptance of the angel’s word at the Annunciation, her charity in the Visitation to
Elizabeth, her trust in Joseph during the flight into Egypt, her steadfast vigil beneath her Son’s cross.
Throughout these joyful and sorrowful mysteries of her life, Mary’s faith-filled heart embraced God’s will,
making her an instrument for the accomplishment of God’s plan for our salvation, and a living model for us of
trust and perseverance. For Mary’s undaunted faith and the selfless love it inspired, all generations shall call
her blessed.
Mission
Imitate Mary’s trusting faith in God and selfless charity toward others; honor Mary’s faith by reciting the
Angelus; seek Mary’s intercession by praying the Rosary.
