Dear Parent or Guardian,
In the 2014-15 school year, Nevada will roll out new assessments that are aligned to the new
Nevada Academic Content Standards in English language arts and mathematics. These
assessments will be used to gauge how well students are mastering the new higher
academic standards. The tests will be administered in grades 3-8 and replace the Nevada
Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) in reading and math in spring 2015.
Your child’s school is one of 234 Nevada schools participating in a field test this spring of
the new assessment system to ensure that the testing process runs smoothly when the
new tests are administered next year. This means that your child will take a field test
in math or English language arts this spring 2014, instead of taking the CRT in that
field tested subject. Please note: if your child is in the 5th or 8th grade, he or she will take the
statewide CRT in science and the Nevada Formative Writing assessment this spring.
The purpose of the field test is to “test the test” and help prepare schools, teachers, and
students for full implementation of the new assessments in spring 2015. Because this is a
field test, similar to a pilot, no scores will be sent home for your child from the field test. However,
taking this field test will still greatly benefit your child because he or she will experience the
new computer-based test a year in advance and become more familiar with the different
types of questions. Participating in the field test will also give schools an opportunity to
prepare for the technological and logistical challenges of the new system. I believe these
benefits justify having one year without state test results in these double- tested content
areas.

En el año escolar 2014-15, Nevada pondrá en marcha nuevas evaluaciones que están alineados con los nuevos
Estándares académicos de Nevada en artes del lenguaje en inglés y matemáticas. Estas evaluaciones se utilizarán
para medir qué tan bien los estudiantes están dominando los nuevos estándares académicos más altos. Las
pruebas se administraran en la primavera del 2015 a los grados de 3ro a 8avo y reemplazaran a las Pruebas de
Criterio de Referencia de Nevada (CRT) en lectura y matemáticas.
La escuela de su hijo es una de 234 escuelas de Nevada que participaran en la primavera de este año en un
examen de práctica del nuevo sistema de evaluación. Haremos esto para garantizar que el proceso de pruebas
funcione sin problemas cuando estas se administren el próximo año. Esto significa que su hijo va a tomar un
examen en arte de lenguaje en inglés y matemáticas en esta primavera de 2014, en lugar de tomar el CRT en esta
área evaluada. Nota: si su hijo está en el grado quinto u octavo, él o ella tendrá que tomar en esta primavera el
examen estatal de ciencia CRT y el examen de Escritura de Nevada.
El propósito del examen de práctica es "probar el examen" y ayudar a preparar a las escuelas, maestros y
estudiantes para la aplicación plena de las nuevas evaluaciones en la primavera de 2015. Debido a que esta es un
examen de práctica, similar a un examen piloto, las calificaciones no serán enviadas a casa. Sin embargo, tomar
esta prueba de examen beneficiará mucho a su hijo ya que él o ella va a experimentar el nuevo examen por
computadora con un año de antelación y familiarizarse con los diferentes tipos de preguntas. La participación en el
examen de práctica también dará a las escuelas la oportunidad de prepararse para los retos tecnológicos y
logísticos del nuevo sistema. Creo que estos beneficios justifican tener un año sin los resultados de las pruebas
estatales en estas áreas dobles examinadas.
