You now have it in your hands. Further proof that Alestis Aerospace continues moving forward. Flying is our magazine, our meeting point. We should all see ourselves reflected here, but above all it must portray the enthusiasm and strength exuded by this major shared project that is Alestis Aerospace, one of only three Tier 1 companies in Spain, which places us right at the top end of the aviation industry. In line with this collaborative project, it was decided that this Corporate Magazine should be inaugurated by us all. So a little game was proposed. A competition to name the magazine, which exceeded all expectations as over 200 people participated and over 300 names were proposed. 4 NEWSLETTER ALESTIS. In the end, our colleague José Luis Carretero García, Operations Quality Manager, won with Flying. A short strong name, which is very much related to the aviation world and which summarises a common feeling for the whole Company: “Flying together to far-off destinations marked by success”. Second place was given to The Blue Bird, which plays with the idea of a bird - Alestis means bird in Latin - and with our corporate colour, proposed by our colleague Manuel Jesús Sempere Sánchez, from the A400M line in San Pablo. The Blue Bird is the title of the last section of the magazine, the most participatory of them all. No me merezco tal honor”, bromeó Rafael García Cairón. The interview began the other way round with a question from the interviewee: “Why have you chosen me for the first interview for the Alestis magazine? I don’t deserve such an honour,” joked Rafael García Cairón. The answer is simple: unanimous agreement among colleagues, subordinates and managers that Rafael, alias Falu, is a “very good person”. Flying is a channel of communication by and for the people that make Alestis Aerospace what it is, what it means for each one of us. And what better way to start than by discovering the opinion of a great professional who is also a great person. Because great companies are made up of great people. 12 Since 1987 in the aeronautical sector, since 2003 in SK10. You must have seen a lot of changes, are we better or worse? In general terms, we’ve improved a lot. The progress between when I started and now is immeasurable in all aspects. With regard to Alestis, the clearest improvement is that we are no longer a workshop. Now, we can see the features of a major Company. There are still things to improve, but I think that we can feel a different atmosphere. There’s been uncertainty for a long time, never a lack of work, but there was concern. Now that feeling has disappeared. We can see a clear project for the future and in only a few months we’ve improved in many things. Desde 1987 en el sector aeronáutico, desde 2003 en SK10. Habrás visto muchos cambios; ¿estamos mejor o peor? A grandes rasgos, hemos mejorado mucho. A 50 personas. How many people do you coordinate as Manager of the Workshop for the Landing Gear Doors of the A380? 50 people. I think we’ve managed to become a very well integrated team and, in my opinion, that’s one of the secrets that make the Programme run smoothly. El truco es 13 ENTREVISTA INTERVIEW ‘EL TRUCO PARA MANEJAR A 50 PERSONAS ES ESCUCHARLOS A TODOS Y QUEDARTE CON LO MEJOR DE CADA UNO’ ‘THE TRICK FOR MANAGING 50 PEOPLE IS TO LISTEN TO ALL OF THEM AND KEEP THE BEST OF EACH ONE’ What’s the trick for managing 50 people, getting the work done and on top of that people speaking well of you? The trick is to listen. 50 people are 50 opinions. You need to listen to all of them and make an effort to sieve through everything and keep the best of each one. You need to mediate and not impose. This is a large part of my work: strengthening the human part because we’ve already got the technical part under control. You always need to bear in mind that the happier people are, the better the results. It’s necessary to motivate the majority and upset as few people as possible. And to know that there are always things to improve. Luckily, I have the help of everybody and, above all, the help of the six team managers who check that everything comes out as planned during three shifts a day, seven days a week. Furthermore, to report to such good people as Jesús Cedeño, plant programme manager, and Justo García, as the most senior manager, is comforting. The great work done by the people in Production, Engineering and Quality Control is also a great help. It is a stabilised Programme. At first, as is understandable, there were problems, but with the Customer’s help, we are getting good results. I think that Airbus is happy. escuchar. What improvements do you think are necessary? In general, we still need more identification with the Alestis project. It’s a mistake that there are still people 14 who feel they’re from such and such a company which no longer exists. We need people to feel part of Alestis as if it was their football team. It will be better for everybody. I think we’re on the right track, but we’re still only at the start. It’s understandable that there’s scepticism. That’s why it’s very important to unify criteria so that there are less possible differences between the different work centres and Programmes. We have to continue moving forward in standardisation. mos en el principio. Have do you think Alestis is seen outside the Company? People think that it’s a good place to work. Above all here in Cadiz. This Company should be the cornerstone of the renewal of industry in the Bay. We’ve only got the aeronautical sector left after the loss of Delphi and the fact that the naval sector is not going so well. I’d personally love my children and those of my colleagues to work for Alestis. It’s a good job and a good company to be very proud of. I think the rescue of Alestis was good news for us and for future generations. A little bird told me that like any good person from Cadiz, you’re a big fan of the sea. Hahahahaha…the little bird is right. I love everything related to the sea. My father was a sailor, a very hard job. I prefer aeronautics. I have a small boat, Brisa [Breeze], but I use it more for sailing than for fishing. In that my father has no competition. My children like it too. It runs in the family. 15 FOTO EQUIPO 1/2 FOTO EQUIPO 2/2 16 17 ¿QUÉ HACEMOS? 1/4 ¿QUÉ HACEMOS? 2/4 18 19 AMES 1/4 AMES 2/4 20 21 AMES 3/4 AMES 4/4 22 23 FAST 1/2 FAST 2/2 24 25 EL REPORTAJE THE REPORT PARACAIDISMO EN ALESTIS SKYDIVING IN ALESTIS Hola a todos. Hello everyone. As I suppose many of you don’t know me, the first thing I’ll do is introduce myself: My name is Federico José de Lózar López and in Alestis Aerospace I hold the position of Manager of the work packages for the Boeing 787 and Embraer, as well as occasionally covering some commercial activities. It is an honour to be the person to open this new section of the thrilling project that is FuturA. In the following lines and paragraphs, I would like to share with you a little bit of the excitement which you can feel when doing the exhilarating hobby which has kept me busy for many years: skydiving. My first contacts with this hobby date all the way back to 1982. I started to jump in the Tablada Air Base, next to Seville Paraclub, where we flew the Dornier 27 of the 407th Squadron, which gave us flight hours. In that distant time, we jumped with round parachutes, although rectangular parachutes were starting to be used before eventually moving 26 se pasara a los de alto rendimiento, que son los que se usan actualmente. on to the high-performance parachutes which are currently used. A partir de ahí he completado 1.200 saltos. Since then I have completed 1,200 jumps. This number has allowed me to fly in many of the plane models on which we still work, such as the C212, CN235, C295, C130 Hercules, Twin Otter, Dornier, Pilatus and all types of Cessnas. My next challenge is to jump from an A400, which must be quite an experience. In those initial times I was already working for the Ministry of Defence in the CASA-Tablada facilities, and so I had the opportunity to participate in the production of the CN235 at the same time as I was flying the plane, which made me feel somewhat privileged. I subsequently went to work for CASA-Tablada, and later I continued my professional career until I ended up in Alestis Aerospace, where I feel very comfortable as I’m able to continue with my two hobbies: helping to build planes and jumping from them. 27 EL REPORTAJE Over these years, I’ve had time to participate in many Spanish, Andalusian and open international championships in the categories of accuracy landing (landing on the target) and freefall formation with four and eight skydivers. Freefall jumps are usually from 4,000 m and last for 70 seconds from leaving the plane until the parachute opens. During this time, the team has to make different patterns which have previously been agreed by a draw. The judges evaluate the work performed by watching a video taken by another jumper who is independent from the group. I can say that the achievement that has brought me most satisfaction in all the years I’ve been skydiving was to beat the Spanish large formation record with 33 skydivers. That was in 1995. The image couldn’t have been more perfect with the city of Seville as background. Anyone who lives near Seville and is keen on giving it a go and wants to try out the overwhelming mix of sensations that you feel when skydiving from thousands of metres up, should be aware that you can skydive from La Juliana aerodrome in Bollullos de la Mitación. For those who want to take up the hobby, you will find every category there: from jumps in tandem with an instructor up to advanced short courses where you can jump directly from 4,000 metres guided by two instructors. So I encourage you to take it up, as I can guarantee that you will discover an extremely beautiful and, above all, high level sport. All the best. Un fuerte abrazo. 29 THE BLUE BIRD THE BLUE BIRD CHRISTMAS 2015 CHRISTMAS 2015 3 4 1 2 November saw the launch of the 1st Alestis Aerospace Christmas Competition.
