HIS EMINENCE, CARDINAL RIGALI TO
CELEBRATE OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
MASS AT ST. THOMAS PARISH
His Eminence, Cardinal Rigali will be the main celebrant
and homilist at the 7:00 PM Mass on the feast of Our
Lady of Guadalupe, Friday, December 12. The Mass will
be in Spanish. A celebration will follow in the PFLC.
DECEMBER 12TH COLLECTION
On Friday, December 12th, the Feast of Our Lady of
Guadalupe, the collection will be given to Catholic
Charities of East TN and their Office of Immigrant
Services. Like the Feast we celebrate marking the
appearance of Blessed Mother to St. Juan Diego in
1531, the collection echoes Mary’s message of love,
hope and unity to the people of America. Your gift will
help the Office of Immigrant Services with additional
staff and resources to help better serve the immigrant
community. Please be generous.
SUCCESSFUL BAKE AND CRAFT SALE
Over $3,000 was raised from the sale and will go to the
Women’s Guild for our charities.
The bake sale committee wishes to thank all St. Thomas
bakers who donated so many beautiful baked items and
transformed the tables into an exclusive Bake Shoppe.
Thanks, too, to all who bought and enjoyed them. And
to the workers: a job well done.
~Vonnie Rivers and Joyce Egler
A million thanks to the St. Thomas Crafters who created
so many items that we were scrambling for space to
display them. We had a variety of beautiful items which
were donated to the sale. Special thanks to all the
workers and to all who bought at our shop.
~Arlene Roberts and Linda Sanford
JOIN US FOR LAS POSADAS!
We will be celebrating Las Posadas starting December
16th thru December 23rd from 7:00PM-9:00PM, PFLC.
Las Posadas means “Inn” or “Shelter” in Spanish. Las
Posadas is a tradition based on preparing for Christ’s
birth that involves the re-enactment of Mary and
Joseph searching for lodgings in Bethlehem. Traditionally
it lasts for nine days, from December 16 through
Christmas Eve. We will only celebrate eight days. Each
night a group of people proceed from outside the PFLC
singing a request for lodging. Another group of people
(the innkeepers) responds in song by refusing lodging.
This continues until they are allowed in.
Once in, all gather to pray the Rosary; and a prayer to
Mary, St. Joseph and Baby Jesus. After praying, the
group celebrates with traditional foods and singing
Christmas songs.
RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SON
by Fr. Henri Nouwen
Explore this book with Deacon Dave Lucheon
Tuesday mornings, Jan 6 – Feb 10, 9:30 to 11:00 am
Wednesday evenings, Jan 7 – Feb 11, 6:30 to 8:00 pm
Fr. Nouwen helps us explore the famous Rembrandt
painting with an insight into where we are in Our
Father’s family. Through reflection, study, and selfknowledge, Fr. Nouwen reveals our journey. We move
from darkness to light, discovering love and forgiveness,
a universal message. Deacon Dave Lucheon will bring
us to a new level of discovery of our inner life. This
book is remarkable. Come share this miraculous
parable from a very different perspective. Please view a
copy of this painting in our Chapel.
Sign up for these sessions following Masses Dec 13/14
and Dec 20/21. Books available for $10.00.
JANUARY ROSARY FOR LIFE
On Saturday, January 10, 2015, the Diocese of Knoxville
will sponsor a pro-life rosary led by Cardinal Rigali. This
rosary will take place at 10:00 AM at the Planned
Parenthood abortion facility in north Knoxville. St.
Thomas the Apostle parish will provide buses to take
parishioners. We will leave from the St. Thomas parking
lot at 8:45 AM and return at approximately 12 Noon.
Please make plans to accompany your fellow
parishioners and to be a witness for life in our
community. This rosary will be peaceful and prayerful.
Prayers will be offered for all those associated with
abortion and for mothers in a crisis involving abortion.
Please call or E-mail Kay Sheldon at 458-8510 or
[email protected] to let us know you will be
attending. We do need an accurate count for the buses.

A Cry Room for those who wish to use it is now

THANK YOU TO OUR FELLOW PARISHIONERS
The Knights, of Father John Savoca Council #12633 St.
Thomas the Apostle Parish, thank you for supporting our
recent Christmas Wreath Gift Sale. Over 115 wreaths
were sold. Proceeds will be used to support local K of C
Charities. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
May the Peace of the Lord be with each of you.
THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL TREE
Once again the parishioners at St. Thomas are busy
fulfilling the Christmas wishes of our local needy
children. There is still time to bring your gifts this
Sunday. Volunteers will be packing all the gifts this
weekend for the schools to pick up for distribution.
Thank you for sharing your Christmas spirit and joy to
those less fortunate. ~ Linda and Harry DeNardo
