Journey of Faith
We are on a long and eventful journey. Today’s readings for Trinity Sunday succinctly cover the depth and breadth of our
human travels.
The very beginnings of our journey are revealed in the reading from Proverbs. God’s plan filled with divine wisdom was born
before the earth was made. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of his own personal journey. He has come from the Father and will
return to the Father. Only then will the Advocate—the Spirit of Truth—take us onward.
This does not diminish the fact that the journey will be hard. The very setting of the Gospel is the night before Jesus died. As
Saint Paul writes to the Romans, “We even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance,
proven character, and proven character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4).
Ultimately, our human journey is modeled by the Holy Trinity—a family of love among Father, Son, and Spirit that we are all

Faith Formation Workshop

Baptism Classes
Participants will learn how to use the web to create
personalized and engaging faith formation content using
videos, discussions, quizzes and games for parents and youth/
children to use at home in preparation and follow-up for
learning with the catechist at the parish.
We offer classes: in English the first
Wednesday of the month, in Vietnamese the
first Saturday of the month, and in Spanish
the third Friday of the month. You need to
pre-register to attend the class, please call the

“DO NOT BE AFRAID!
OPEN WIDE THE DOORS TO CHRIST!”

Dear parishioners and friends,

Last week, the priests in the Catholic Diocese
of San Jose gathered at Our Lady of Peace
Shrine in Santa Clara for the Spring Presbyteral
Assembly. Among the various agendas that
morning, Mr. Robert Serventi, the Chief Financial Officer of
the diocese, presented the financial health of the diocese
before the clergy. Serventi and his office have been supporting
our parish projects in many different ways. We thank him for
making our new Parish Ministry Center come to existence.
According to Serventi, last October Mass Count indicates a
decrease in Mass attendance through the Diocese. However,
offertory indicates an increase in basket collections. These
trends mean that, on the one hand, there are more Catholics
who do not participate in Sunday Mass, and on the other hand,
there are more Catholics who make more contribution to
support their parishes. How should we address this challenge?
I don’t know the solution, but here is what we should do. We
should come out of our comfort zone (including our church
grounds), arm ourselves with the Good News, and reach out to
those who do not come to us for one reason or another. As the
Most Reverend George Niderauer, Archbishop emeritus of
San Francisco, said, “Whoever receives the Real Presence of
Jesus at Mass accepts and takes on the challenge of being the
Real Presence of Jesus in the world.”
The Spirit of Poverty
The Lord is your inheritance.
Is he not sufficient?
Your possessions will bury you if you carry them on your
head or near your heart. Instead, your possessions
will be your footstool if you stand on them.
“Be poor in the place where you live, in the clothes you
wear, in the food you eat, in the things you use, in the
work you do” (Father Chevrier).
The person who asks for little is content, because he or
she considers anything to be sufficient. The person
who asks for a great deal is extremely miserable
because he or she always feels deprived.
When you look only at yourself and feel deprived you can
begin to think that you are the most miserable person
in the world. When you look at others, you will see
how many people are worse off than yourself.

This Saturday, on the vigil of the Feast of the Corpus Christi,
there will be a solemn procession around the church grounds
after Saturday 5 p.m. Mass. Traditionally, after the High
Mass, the Blessed Sacrament is carried through the streets and
over the fields and meadows. Our church can’t carry the
Monstrance through the streets like that, or we may hear our
neighbors to call the city to complain for seeing Christ. This is
what we can do to celebrate at Saint Elizabeth. The Blessed
Sacrament will be processed around the church grounds. We
will stop at three stations which will be built with high Altars
and with the backgrounds that have the themes on diversity,
faith formation, and pastoral care. As the body of Christ, our
Saint Elizabeth community:
• embraces and honors the unity in diversity, because “all
the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also
Christ” (1 Cor 12:12),
• strengthens our spiritual foundation through the faith
formation for children and adults, because Jesus is the vine,
we are the branches. “Whoever remains in me and I in him
will bear much fruit” (John 15:5), and
• reaches out to the sick, the elderly, the
mourned, the incarcerated, and the needy
through pastoral care programs, because
the Spirit “has anointed me to bring glad
tidings to the poor” (Lk 4:18).

Kính thưa Quý Cụ, Quý Ông Bà và Anh Chị Em thân mến,
Hôm tuần trước, các linh mục trong Giáo phận San Jose đã qui tụ về Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Hoà Bình ở Santa Clara
cho khoá họp linh mục Mùa Xuân. Lồng trong những nghị trình buổi sáng hôm đó là phần tường trình về tình trạng tài
chánh của Giáo phận, do ông Robert Serventi, Giám đốc tài chánh của Giáo phận trình bày. Ông Serventi và văn phòng
của ông luôn hỗ trợ tích cực các dự án phát triển của giáo xứ Thánh Elizabeth. Chúng ta cám ơn ông đã giúp cho Trung
Tâm Mục Vụ được hình thành. Theo báo cáo của ông Serventi, con số thống kê trong Thánh Lễ mỗi Chúa Nhật vào
tháng 10 năm ngoái cho thấy sự suy giảm số người đi Lễ. Tuy nhiên, số tiền bỏ giỏ trong Thánh Lễ thì lại gia tăng.
Điều đó cho thấy, một mặt thì càng có nhiều tín hữu Công Giáo không tham dự Thánh Lễ Chúa Nhật, và một mặt thì
những ai tham dự Thánh Lễ thì lại đóng góp nhiều hơn để hỗ trợ tài chánh cho các giáo xứ của họ. Đứng trước thách
đố này, chúng ta phải làm gì? Tôi không biết giải pháp là gì, nhưng tôi thiết nghĩ chúng ta nên làm những việc sau đây.
Chúng ta nên bước ra khỏi thế giới của mỗi người (ngay cả bước ra khỏi ranh giới nhà thờ), vũ trang chính mình với
Tin Mừng, và liên đới với những ai không đến với chúng ta vì lý do nào đó. Như Đức Cha George Niderauer, Tổng
Giám mục hưu của Tổng Giáo phận San Francisco có nói, “Những ai nhận lãnh sự Hiện Diện Thật của Chúa Giêsu
trong Thánh Lễ cũng phải chấp nhận và mang lấy thách đố trở nên chính sự Hiện Diện Thật của Chúa Giêsu giữa thế
giới.”
Vào chiều Thứ Bảy tuần này, nhân Lễ Vọng kính Mình và Máu Đức Kitô (Corpus Christi), giáo xứ sẽ tổ chức một
cuộc rước trọng thể Mình Thánh Chúa trong khuôn viên nhà thờ ngay sau Thánh Lễ Thứ Bảy 5 giờ chiều. Theo truyền
thống lâu đời, sau Thánh Lễ trọng thể, Mình Thánh Chúa được rước qua các đường phố và các cánh đồng. Nhà thờ
chúng ta thì không thể rước Mặt Nhật Thánh Thể qua các đường phố như vậy, không thôi chúng ta lại nghe dân cư lân
cận gọi cho thành phố than phiền là họ gặp ông Giêsu. Nhưng đây là việc chúng ta có thể thực hiện trong buổi chiều
hôm đó. Mình Thánh Chúa sẽ được rước xung quanh khuôn viên nhà thờ. Đoàn rước sẽ dừng tại ba trạm, ba nơi đó có
ba bàn thờ cao để đặt Mặt Nhật và có ba phong cảnh diễn tả ba chủ đề: nét đa dạng của cộng đoàn, giáo dục đức tin, và
mục vụ giáo xứ. Là một Nhiệm Thể của Đức Kitô, cộng đoàn giáo xứ Thánh Elizabeth:
• Đón nhận và vinh danh tính hiệp nhất trong sự đa dạng các sắc dân bởi vì “các bộ phận của thân thể tuy

BA NGÔI THIÊN CHÚA
Nhân danh Cha và Con và Thánh Thần.
Thánh Augustinô viết: «Thiên Chúa là một mầu
nhiệm mà con người không thể nào thấu hiểu được».
Dấu Thánh Giá tóm lược Ba Mầu Nhiệm Cả trong
Đạo Công giáo.
1 – Chúng ta làm Dấu Thánh Giá, vì Chúa Giêsu đã
mặc lấy thân xác người phàm đến để cứu chuộc ta. Đây
là mầu nhiệm Nhập Thể.
2 – Dấu Thánh Giá nhắc lại rằng Đức Giêsu, Con
Thiên Chúa, đã chết trên Thánh Giá để cứu chuộc chúng
ta. Đây là mầu nhiệm Cứu Chuộc. Thánh Giá là chiến
thắng của Đức Giêsu trên sự dữ và ma quỉ. Chúng ta trở
nên con cái Thiên Chúa nhờ hy tế của Chúa Giêsu trên
Thánh.
3 – Dấu mà chúng ta vẽ trên mình kèm theo lời đọc:
«Nhân danh Cha, và Con và Thánh Thần». Chúng ta
khẳng định mầu nhiệm Thiên Chúa Ba Ngôi.
Chúng ta hãy làm Dấu Thánh Giá trong tâm tình như
các Thánh đã làm là “ái mộ những sự trên trời” bằng
hành động của Đức Tin, Đức Cậy và Đức Mến trong mỗi
giây phút của cuộc đời Kytô Hữu.

Queridos feligreses y amigos:
Dios ha infundido su amor en nuestros
corazones por medio del Espíritu Santo.
La semana pasada, los sacerdotes Católicos de la
Diócesis de San José se reunieron en el Santuario de Nuestra
Señora de la Paz en Santa Clara para la Asamblea Presbiteral
de Primavera. Entre las varias agendas de esa mañana Mr.
Robert Serventi, el Jefe de Finanzas de la diócesis, presentó el
reporte financiero de la diócesis. Serventi y su oficina han
apoyado a nuestros proyectos de varias maneras. Agradezcamosle porque ahora tenemos nuestro nuevo Centro
Parroquial Ministerial. De acuerdo con Serventi, el contéo de
participación del mes de octubre muestra una baja de
asistencia a misa en nuestra diócesis. Pero las ofrendas
subieron. Esto muestra que, por un lado hay varios católicos
que no participan en Misa los domingos, y por el otro lado,
hay más católicos que contribuyen a sus parroquias. ¿Cómo
podremos dirigir este reto? No tengo la solución, pero ésto es
lo que podemos hacer. Debemos salir de nuestro alrededor
(inclusive del terreno de la iglesia), debemos llenarnos de la
Buena Nueva, y llevarla a todos aquellos que no vienen a
nosotros por una u otra razón. Así como dice el Reverendo
George Niderauer, Arzobispo Emérito de San Francisco,
“Quién recibe la Verdadera Presencia de Jesús en Misa acepta
y toma el desafío de ser la Verdadera Presencia de Jesús en el
mundo”.

Viaje de Fe
Estamos en un viaje largo y lleno de acontecimientos. Las
lecturas de hoy para el Domingo de la Santísima Trinidad
cubren sucintamente la profundidad y la amplitud de nuestros
viajes humanos.
Los comienzos de nuestro viaje se revelan en la lectura de
Proverbios. El plan de Dios lleno de sabiduría divina nació
antes de que la tierra existiera. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús
habla de su propio viaje personal. Él ha venido del Padre y
volverá al Padre. Sólo en ese momento el Paráclito –el Espíritu
de la Verdad– nos llevará hacia adelante.
Esto no disminuye la dificultad del viaje. El contexto
mismo del Evangelio es la noche antes de la muerte de Jesús.
Como san Pablo les escribe a los romanos, “Nos gloriamos
hasta de los sufrimientos, pues sabemos que el sufrimiento
engendra la paciencia, la paciencia engendra la virtud sólida, la
virtud sólida engendra la esperanza” (Romanos 5:3-4).
En última instancia, nuestro viaje humano está modelado
por la Santísima Trinidad –una familia de amor entre el Padre,
el Hijo y el Espíritu que todos somos llamados a emular.
Este sábado, en la vigilia de la Fiesta de Corpus Cristi,
tendremos una procesión solemne al rededor de los terrenos de
nuestra iglesia después de la Misa del sábado a las 5:00 pm.
Tradicionalmente, después de la Misa Solemne, el Santísimo
Sacramento es llevado por las calles, sembradíos y praderas.
Nuestra iglesia no puede llevar la Custodia por las calles,
podríamos recibir reclamos del vecindario diciendo que han
visto a Cristo. Pero, ésto es lo que podemos hacer para
celebrar aquí en Santa Elizabeth. El Santísimo Sacramento lo
llevaremos en procesión por los terrenos de la iglesia.
Pararemos en tres estaciones donde tendremos unos Altares
con los temas de la diversidad, la formación de fe, y el
cuidado pastoral. Como el Cuerpo de Cristo, nuestra
comunidad de Santa Elizabeth:
• acoge y honra la unidad en la diversidad, porque “todos
los miembros del cuerpo, aún siendo muchos, forman un sólo
cuerpo, asi también Cristo” (1 Cor 12:12),
• fortalece nuestra fundación espiritual mediante la
formación de fe para los niños y adultos, porque Yo soy la vid
y ustedes las ramas. “Si alguién permanence en mí y yo en el
produce mucho fruto” (John 15:5), y
• llegamos a los enfermos, a los ancianos, a los dolientes, a
los encarcelados, y a los necesitados por medio de
programas de cuidado pastoral, porque el espíritu
“El me ha ungido para traer buenas nuevas a los
pobres” (Lk 4:18).

Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe
Este domingo la Iglesia celebra la Solemnidad de la
Santísima Trinidad: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. Este dogma
acerca de la realidad de Dios es la clave para comprender la
verdad de la religión cristiana. Mediante el poder del Espíritu
Santo el Padre envió al Hijo como Salvador del mundo. Estas
tres personas son un solo Dios.
No es una doctrina fácil de comprender y mucho menos de
pintar en arte sagrado. Sin embargo muchos artistas latinoamericanos han intentado pintar simbólicamente la verdad de la
Santísima Trinidad. En muchos casos imaginan al Padre cargando a Jesús en la cruz y soplando sobre él el Espíritu en
forma de paloma. A veces Padre e Hijo están entronados sobre
las nubes soplando el Espíritu mutuamente y las alas de la paloma tocan los labios de ambos. En algunos casos el Padre, el
Hijo y el Espíritu Santo son tres cabezas que salen de un solo
cuerpo. Seguido los tres tienen el mismo rostro distinguiéndose
solo por el color de sus vestiduras o los símbolos que cargan.
