Greetings,
It is with great pleasure that we present the 2006-07
season of the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus.
As our 21st year, we’re affectionately calling this
our “coming of age” season, and I think you’ll
see why. The members of this talented and hardworking family of volunteers continue to challenge
themselves, hone their craft and build upon their
diverse musical and cultural heritage. It is extremely
rewarding to come together as an exceptional
performing-arts organization and a vibrant and
active part of the South Florida community.
Join us as we celebrate our similarities and
differences, and — as our logo proudly states —
Celebrate Life Together!

Es con gran placer que el Fort Lauderdale Gay
Men’s Chorus presenta su temporada 200607. Por ser este nuestro año numero 21, nos
referimos a el cariñosamente como el año de
nuestra adultéz. Es que los miembros de esta
talentosa y trabajadora familia de voluntarios
continúan desafiándose, puliendo su arte
y construyendo sobre su diverso patrimonio
musical y cultural. Es extremadamente
recompensante forjar una organización artística
excepcional como parte activa y vibrante de la
comunidad del sur de la Florida.
Nuestra meta es simple…
deseamos formar una comunidad
que promueva un mundo que acepte
y valore diversidad, a través de funciónes
musicales de calidad. El coro se enorgullece
en ser parte integral en la construcción

play a part in building the bridges that lead
us to that world, and in lifting your spirits

¡Bienvenidos a la
duodécima primera
temporada del coro! Al comenzar nuestra
tercera década nos sentimos orgullosos de
ser el primer conjunto coral
Gay del estado de la Florida
y estar a la vanguardia como
una de sus organizaciónes artísticas
principales.
Durante esta temporada disfrutarán
de espectáculos compuestos de diversas
culturas y estilos musicales que
reflejan la diversidad dentro del
coro mismo, a través del sur de la Florida
y nuestra nación en general. En lugar
de temerle a esas diferencias, elegimos
aceptarlas y enriquecer así nuestras vidas – y
esperamos transferir ese sentir a ustedes por
medio de nuestras presentaciónes artísticas –
celebrando todo lo que podemos ser…juntos.
Deseamos compartir nuestro entusiasmo,
devoción, talento y mensaje de aceptación y
comprensión durante esta temporada. Como

Welcome to the Chorus’ 21st season! As we begin our
third decade, the Chorus is proud of its position as
the first gay performing-arts groups in the state of
Florida and today as one of South Florida’s premiere
arts organizations.
Throughout our season, you’ll be
entertained by a rich diversity of musical
styles and cultures that reflect the diversity of
the chorus itself, South Florida and indeed our
entire nation. Rather than being fearful of
those differences, we choose instead to embrace
them and thus enrich our lives — and, through our
performances, hopefully yours — by celebrating all
that we can be...together.
We look forward to sharing our excitement,
commitment, talents and message of inclusion and
understanding throughout our season. As always,
thank you for your generous and continued support
of the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus. We truly
couldn’t do it without you.

THE 21ST GALA SEASON
As the longest-running gay performing-arts
organization in the state of Florida, we are
honored and excited to be building off of our last
20 years of exceptional performances and entering
our third decade of quality entertainment and
community service.
And what an exciting two decades it’s been!
Especially since the talented musician
and showman Todd Wiley took the
helm of the Chorus as its director four
years ago — supported for the last two years
by the musical and dancing artistry of assistant
director Hank Henley — we continue to grow in
our professionalism, pageantry and poignancy.
The musicianship and dedication of these two
artists continue to help us grow and mature
as a performing-arts organization...one that
seeks to entertain while celebrating the rich
diversity of musical styles, the GLBT
community, and of all of the Greater
South Florida
community at large.

MAYORÍA DE EDAD… LA CELEBRACIÓN
DE GALA DE LOS 21 AÑOS
Al ser la organización coral Gay mas antigua
del estado de la Florida, nos honra y emociona
poder utilizar las experiencias adquiridas en los
pasados 20 años de fenomenales producciónes, al
iniciar nuestra tercera década de excepcionales
presentaciónes y servicio comunitario.
¡Y qué emocionante han sido estas dos
décadas pasadas! Especialmente
desde que el talentoso músico y
empresario Todd Wiley tomó el timón,
como director del coro, hace cuatro años
– apoyado durante los pasados dos años por
el arte musical y coreográfico del director
auxiliar Hank Henley – continuamos
creciendo en profesionalismo, boato y
patetismo. El esmero y talento musical de
estos dos artistas continúa ayudandonos a
pulirnos y madurar como una organización con
la intención de entretener mientras
celebramos la rica diversidad de
estilos musicales, la comunidad
GLBT y de todos los habitantes

La característica mas grande que posee el coro
es su diversidad. Al conocer a los orgullosos
miembros que componen el Fort Lauderdale Gay
Men’s Chorus, encontrarán un gran número de
personas que desempeñan un papel primordial
en el mejoramiento y la fomentación de nuestra
comunidad. Entre ellos se hallan doctores,
enfermeros, abogados, consejeros, agentes de bienes
raíces, entre otras profeciónes. El coro explota los
talentos y habilidades de cada miembro, valorando
su diversidad y compromiso combinandolos para asi
crear una experiencia sin igual. Lo que ven delante
de ustedes no es solo un grupo artístico, sino una
verdadera familia. Estamos felíces de tenerlos a
ustedes también como parte de esta familia al asistir
a nuestras funciónes.

the proud members of the Fort Lauderdale
Gay Men’s Chorus, you’re seeing many of the
people who play a pivotal role in making this a

counselors, realtors and other professionals.
The Chorus taps the individual talents and
life events of each man, valuing that diversity
and commitment, and combining it into an
experience that’s like none other. What you see

WHERE YOU’LL SEE US
In addition to the four major season
performances highlighted in this booklet,
throughout the year you’ll see us as usual at
a wide range of community events. Last year
alone, we had the privilege of performing in
such diverse venues and events as the opening
ceremonies for AIDS Walk Fort Lauderdale
(meeting fellow performers Hal Sparks from
Queer as Folk, singer Debbie Gibson, and two
of the Queer Eye boys, the delightful Carson
Kressley and Jai Rodriguez); the Carbonell
Awards, South Florida’s highly prized version
of the Tony Awards; the annual Valuing Our
Families Conference (where we shared the
stage with Rep. Barney Frank and author
Armistead Maupin, and in previous years
Sharon Gless and Rosie O’Donnell); caroling
at local nursing homes and hospices;
countless community performances by
our select ensemble; and — OK, it’s a long
way from South Florida — our
“absolutely fabulous” and enriching
concert tour of Scandinavia in June.
Now that’s diversity!

En adición a las cuatro producciónes principales
de esta temporada destacadas en este folleto,
participaremos como nos es usual, en una amplia
gama de acontecimientos comunitarios durante
el año. Solo este pasado año, tuvimos el privilegio
de cantar en varios lugares y eventos tales como la
ceremonia de apertura de la caminata del SIDA
en Fort Lauderdale, (compartiendo la tarima
con celebridades como Hal Sparks de la teleserie
“Queer as Folk”, la cantante Debbie Gibson y dos
de los encantadores muchachos del programa
“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” – Carson
Kressley y Jai Rodríguez); los premios Carbonell,
version altamente estimada en el sur de la Florida,
semejante a los premios Tony; la conferencia anual
“Valuing Our Families” donde compartimos el
escenario con el Representante Barney Frank y
el autor Armistead Maupin, y en años anteriores
