WEEK OF APRIL 24 / REFLEXIÓN DE
LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA
SEMANA DEL 24 DE ABRIL
God proclaims at the end of our Second Reading from the Book of
Revelations, “Behold, I make all things new.” That is a good thing to
remember on this Fifth Sunday of Easter. In the opening verse of this
reading from Holy Scripture, John also says, “I…saw a new heaven
and a new earth.” Easter reveals this newness to us, and we must
always keep it in mind.
The Greek word used for what is translated as “new” is kaine. As is
normally the case, that particular Greek word has multiple meanings, one of which is “fresh.” We are not speaking of a heaven and
earth which did not exist before, but of a heaven and earth which
are fresh in their newness. This is not just a “new” perspective, but a
better one.
If we strive to live out our lives as disciples of Christ, if we make a
complete effort to be His disciples, we inherit this new heaven. In it,
as also indicated in our Second Reading, God expresses His desire
to be in close fellowship with us, and we in turn must desire to be
His people. Being God’s disciple should be the whole purpose of
our lives. That is not easily achieved, nor is it without obstacles and
hurdles for us, but it is what our purpose should be.

Dios proclama al final de la Segunda Lectura del Libro de las Revelaciones, “He aquí que hago nuevas todas las cosas.” Eso es una buena
cosa para recordar en este Quinto Domingo de Pascua. En el primer
verso de esta lectura de la Sagrada Escritura, Juan también dice: “...
Vi un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva.” La Pascua revela esta novedad
para nosotros, y siempre hay que tenerlo en cuenta.
La palabra griega que se usa para lo que se traduce como “nuevo”
es kaine. Como suele ser el caso, que la palabra griega en particular
tiene varios significados, uno de los cuales es “fresco.” No estamos
hablando de un cielo y la tierra, que no existía antes, pero de un
cielo y la tierra, que están frescos en su novedad. Esto no es sólo una
perspectiva “nueva”, pero una mejor.
Si nos esforzamos por vivir nuestras vidas como discípulos de Cristo,
si hacemos un esfuerzo completo para ser sus discípulos, heredamos este nuevo cielo. En él, como también se indica en la Segunda
Lectura, Dios expresa su deseo de estar en estrecha comunión con
nosotros, y que a su vez debe desear ser su pueblo. Ser discípulo de
Dios debe ser el propósito de nuestras vidas. Eso no es fácil de lograr,
ni es, sin obstáculos y dificultades para nosotros, pero es lo que debe
ser nuestro objetivo.

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima
Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,
Fear is a way to motivate people, but it can also paralyze us.
Out of the fear of hell we try to be better. We are fearful of
judgement, so we keep our God stories to ourselves. Love is the
opposite. Love motivates us as well. Jesus came to bring a new
covenant based on love not fear. His last words today in scripture are, “I give you a new commandment: love one another.
As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This
is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love
for one another.”
Wow, a new commandment and they will know us by how we
love one another. Jesus has faith in us that we can figure out
how to do this. He didn’t give examples or what not to do, He
simply said love one another as I have loved you. He died on
the cross for us, that’s how much He loves us. Let us ponder
a little about God’s great love for us. Let us accept this great
love into our hearts. This is the first step to becoming a true
disciple.

Vaya, un nuevo mandamiento y nos conocerán por la forma
en que amamos el uno al otro. Jesús tiene fe en que nosotros
podemos encontrar la manera de hacer esto. No dio ejemplos
o qué no hacer, él simplemente dijo amense unos a otros como
yo los he amado. El murió en la cruz por nosotros, eso es lo
mucho que nos ama. Vamos a reflexionar un poco sobre el
gran amor de Dios por nosotros. Aceptemos este gran amor en
nuestro corazón. Este es el primer paso para convertirnos en
verdaderos discípulos.

Mass Offerings or Stipends/
Ofrecimiento de Misa o Estipendios
At each Mass a priest celebrates, he has the
opportunity to pray in a special way by
offering the blessings from that Mass for a
certain intention. Traditionally these
intentions come from the community
where he ministers. This is also considered
part of his salary. Here at Our Lady of
Fatima these intentions are gathered in the
parish office and recorded, then later
printed in the newsletter the week the Mass is being offered. The
suggested donation is $20. You may offer a Mass for someone who
has passed away recently or on the anniversary of his or her death.
Usually, it will be for one person, but it may be up to three or for “The
Deceased Members of the _______ Family” or “All the Souls in
Purgatory.” It may be for someone celebrating a birthday or a couple

celebrating an anniversary. It could be for someone who is ill or
dying. It may also be for offering thanks to God. We have Mass
Intention greeting cards that you will receive for each intention.
These may be given to the recipient or their family to let them know
that you are offering a Mass for them. Please visit the parish office if
you would like to offer a Mass for someone.
En cada misa que celebra un sacerdote, tiene la oportunidad de orar
de manera especial ofreciendo las bendiciones de esa misa para una
intención. Tradicionalmente estas intenciones vienen de la comunidad donde él ministra. Esto también se considera parte de su sueldo.

3rd Annual Prime Rib Roast Beef Dinner & Auction

The evening will include a hosted wine/beer bar, prime rib dinner
and music. There will also be an opportunity to bid on really great
gifts in a silent and live auction. Last year’s dinner had close to 300
attendees and is the only one of its kind in Southern Orange County!
It serves as one of the most important annual fundraisers for the San
Clemente Pregnancy Resource Center. The proceeds from previous years helped to purchase a mobile ultrasound unit which will
be on display at the dinner. One hundred percent of the proceeds
from this year’s event will be allocated to cover the ongoing annual
maintenance costs to keep this mobile unit in operation and expand
its services to the local community. So join us for a great time and a

Our Lady of Fatima Confirmation invites all parishioners to participate in this event. Confirmation teens are partnering up with
Wells of Life, Inc. to meet the goal to fund 100 “Wells of Life Giving
Water,” which will supply clean water and hope to the rural villagers
of Uganda. One well costs $6,000 to produce and install, and serves
1,000 people for 25 years. One hundred percent of the well donation
money goes solely to well production costs. If you would like to join

Forty-four wonderful Fatima teens received the Sacrament of Confirmation on April 13 during a spirit-filled Mass officiated by most
reverend Bishop Tod Brown. Many will return to participate in God
Squad, and we look forward to furthering our faith journey with
them. Congratulations amazing teens! Thank you to their parents and
sponsors for walking with them on their journey. Thank you Phil
and choir for beautiful music to accompany the holy ceremony.
Tonight, April 24, there will be a celebration for the newly confirmed
in McGowan Hall. Usual gathering time, 6-7:30pm. We’ll have Ice
cream sundaes and plan the end-of-year BBQ. We hope to see all
newly confirmed teens.
