Parish Mission Statement
This is who we are. This is what
we embrace. This is what each of
us is called to shine to others.
The Mission of St. Hilary Church
of Perpetual Adoration is to create
an atmosphere in which faith grows by:
preaching the Good News, celebrating
the Sacraments and the offering
of the Eucharist where Many
Are Made One Around The Table
of The Lord. Celebrating Christ
we embrace diversity, seek unity
and serve the greater community.
The doors of St. Hilary Church
of Perpetual Adoration remain
perpetually open, inviting
and welcoming all who enter.
Declaración de Misión
de La Parroquia
Esto es lo que somos. Esto es lo que
seguimos. Esto es a lo que cada uno
de nosotros esta llamado: brillar a los
demás. La misión de la Iglesia de
Adoración Perpetua San Hilario es:
crear un ambiente donde nuestra fe
crezca: donde se viva la Buena Nueva,
donde se celebre los Sacramentos y
se ofrezca la Eucaristía, donde muchos
se hagan uno alrededor de la mesa
del Señor. Celebrando a Cristo, abrimos
los brazos a la diversidad, buscamos
la unidad, y servimos a la comunidad.
Las puertas de la Iglesia de Adoración
Perpetua San Hilario permanecen
perpetuamente abiertas, invitando
y dando la Bienvenida a todos
los que entren.

Know the signs of human trafficking
Human trafficking claims many young victims every year, and
often, we see these victims in our daily lives. It is important to
recognize the signs of abuse and to know how to interact with
possible victims. The best way to start a tough conversation
with teens who may be at risk is simply to talk
to them—ask what’s going on in their lives,
and if they are okay. Signs of abuse include
suspicious or inexplicable injuries, avoidance,
or reliance on an older “friend.”

Pentecost Sunday
First Reading:
Acts 2:1-11
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12, 3b-7, 12-13
Gospel:
John 20:19-23
A Reading from the book of Acts
When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place
together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a
strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were.
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and
came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the
Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit
enabled them to proclaim. Now there were devout Jews from every
nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they
gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because
each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were
astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people
who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them
in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites,
inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and
Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near
Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to
Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own
tongues of the mighty acts of God.”
A reading from the first book to the Corinthians
Brothers and sisters: No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the
Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same
Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there
are different workings but the same God who produces all of them
in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is
given for some benefit. As a body is one though it has many parts,
and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also
Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether
Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to
drink of one Spirit.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my
commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you
another Advocate to be with you always. “Whoever loves me will
keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to
him and make our dwelling with him. Those who do not love me do
not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of
the Father who sent me. “I have told you this while I am with you.
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my
name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told
you.”

COUGARS’ CLAW
Hello Parishioners,
As Spring has now sprung and May is the day, the children of Saint Hilary are full of smiles and energy. The bitter
cold of a brutal California Winter has moved to the Southern Hemisphere once again and the promise of those lazy
Summer days is on the horizon.
May is not May unless we honor The Virgin Mary with Her Crowning. The Eighth Grade Class Crowned Mary on
Friday after Mass. It was a beautiful ceremony befitting of Our Mother.
This morning the boys and girls of TK danced around a May pole to a rousing Irish jig and charmed the parents
and grandparents who attended. They officially ushered in the Spring. Thank you TK. On Tuesday, TK is going
to The Rain Forest Café and Build a Bear at Downtown Disney. What a wonderful way to start Springtime.
Last week a group of students who participate in The Young Artists Theatre Company here at St. Hilary traveled
by bus to The Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles to see a production of Father Comes Home from the Wars.
Allison Perea, a future Oscar winner and Eighth Grader at St. Hilary said she liked the play because it was serious
and funny at the same time.
The girls softball continues its’ undefeated season as they hit, throw, steal and slide their way to the league
championship. Good job girls! Keep your eye on the ball! Boys, take notice!
May 2nd through 6th is Teacher Appreciation Week. Let a teacher know you appreciate all the hard and often
undervalued work they do.
We had the Honors ceremony for the 4th through 8th Grade students who achieved a 3.0 or better in their report
cards. There were a lot of proud smiles and a few “if only I did this” frowns in church that morning. We are hoping
for 100% participation the Honors Assembly. Let’s turn those frowns upside down!
Please come by and visit the Saint Hilary Farm. The Fifth Graders are growing strawberries, peppers, zucchini,
tomatoes, basil, thyme, and cabbage. Don’t tell the students but I stole a strawberry the other day. It was delicious.
