On Saturday, May 3, hundreds of Alhambra
residents came out to Alhambra Park for
the annual Eco Fair. This free event featured
displays of green products, information
about environmentally friendly activities, live
performances and music, giveaways, ra e prizes,
face painting, gourmet food trucks, and so much
more. Residents of all ages discovered how to be
more green in the coming months. They also had
a lot of fun!

Most of the bottles, containers,
paper, and cardboard that comes
into your home can go into your blue
recycling cart when they are empty or
unneeded. Here are the types of items
you can recycle:
• Glass Jars & Bottles: empty soda,
juice, beer, wine, water, salsa,
spaghetti sauce, cosmetic, and other
household containers – The lids
are recyclable too, but please take
them off and place them into your
recycling cart or bin separately.
• Plastics: empty soda, juice, water,
shampoo, detergent, lotion,
peanut butter, medicine, and other
household product bottles, jugs,
and jars (plastic lids and pumps OK);
microwave, frozen food, and takeout
containers; plastic toys (remove any
metal); Styrofoam packing material
(bag in clear plastic bag); and
grocery, produce, newspaper, drycleaner, and clean sandwich bags,
plastic and bubble wrap, plastic wrap
from cases of water and paper/
tissue products, and Ziploc bags
with zipper top cut off (bag all plastic
bags in a clear bag and tie it shut)
• Metal & Aluminum: empty soda,
juice, soup, tuna, pet food, and
vegetable cans; metal lids; empty
cooking spray cans; and clean
aluminum foil
• Cartons & Pouches: milk, juice,
broth, coconut water, and similar
cartons; juice pouches
• All Clean Paper: newspaper,
magazines, paper bags, letters,
envelopes, junk mail, computer
and fax paper, Post-It notes,
colored paper, poster board,
catalogs, telephone books, flattened
cardboard, shirt and gift boxes,
tissue boxes, dry food and other
product boxes with the liner
removed, empty paper towel and
toilet paper tubes, and beverage
carton boxes (no foil on boxes or
greeting cards)
Please place only the types of
materials listed into your blue recycling
cart. Other items, such as dishes and
drinking glasses, are not recyclable
and can contaminate the load. Also,
recyclables should be clean, so empty
containers and scrape or wipe out food
residue, and discard pizza boxes that
have food stuck to them or are soaked
with grease.

¿Desea saber qué puede reciclar?
La mayoría de botellas, envases, papel y cartoncillo que usa en su hogar
pueden echarse en el bote azul de los reciclables una vez que estén vacíos
o ya no los ocupe. Enseguida le ofrecemos una lista de los artículos que
puede reciclar:

What if I live in an apartment or condo?
If you live in a multi-family complex, you recycle outside of your building.
Depending on your complex, you will either drop recyclables into the designated
recycling carts or bin or put all materials together into the trash dumpster. Either
way, all of the materials go to a material recovery facility. At this facility, separated
recyclables are handled on one sorting line, and mixed waste from trash
dumpsters heads down another where recyclables are sorted from the trash.
If your complex has blue carts or a recycling bin, you can recycle all of the
items listed above. Please place clean, loose materials into the cart or bin (except
Styrofoam and plastic bags and wrap, which should be bagged).
If you live in a complex without a designated recycling bin, please follow these
guidelines:
• Place all dry and loose recyclable materials into the dumpster. Do not bag.
• Securely bag wet garbage to help keep recyclables clean.
¿Qué hacer si vive en un apartamento o
condominio?
Si vive en un edificio multi-familiar, puede reciclar afuera de su edificio.
Dependiendo del edificio, tendrá que llevar los reciclables al área asignada

Under state law, recycling is mandatory for businesses that produce 4 or more cubic
yards of waste per week and multi-family complexes with five or more units. Fortunately,
businesses and apartments located in Alhambra are in compliance with this state law.
Consolidated Disposal Service (CDS), a Republic Services company, picks up waste from
businesses and multi-family properties and delivers it to a material recovery facility where
recyclables are separated from the trash. The volume of recycling is then reported to the City,
in accordance with state guidelines.
Some businesses and complexes have chosen to separate recyclables from trash. This
can result in cleaner recyclables and a higher rate of recovery. CDS provides this option to
businesses and complexes that wish to have separate trash and recycling containers.

Have you made your call?
Before you lug bulky waste to the
curb, call Allied Waste Services (AWS)
for a FREE disposal appointment. If you
don’t make the call, AWS won’t pick up
your bulky trash and you’ll have to haul
it back into your house or garage. Save
yourself time and trouble by calling
AWS Customer Service at 888-7425234 at least 24 hours before your
regular collection day.

After you’ve made the call, you can
be assured that bulky items, such as
furniture, mattresses, appliances, and
rolled rugs, will be picked up. Be sure
to set them at the curb by 6 a.m. on
your collection day. Place bulky trash
at least 3 feet away from any of your
carts. You may set out up to four bulky
items per week.
